Never quite understood the remarks about Pennetta being a good clay courter. She just happens to play a lot of small clay tournament while seldomly winning one. She basically plays like anyone else on the tour...:shrug:

It's not like she was limping around the court out there. She was not at her best, obviously, but she was healthy enough to go on court and play an entire match without medical attention. Glatch was great today as well.

First of all i have to give credit to Alexa Glatch for playing a great match. She came out very strong right from the start. On the other hand, what an absolutely pathetic performance from Flavia. :( I can`t believe that she would get beaten this badly on her favorite surface. :sad: She was pretty much beaten mentally in the first set and ready to get out of there early in the second set. I don`t know what else to say. Flavia has been very disappointing on the clay this year other than Acapulco.

Flavia played a horrible match. Alexa just played consistent.

I'd like a new american to come through, but honestly, I don't think Alexa has the talent to even be top 30. Good win though.

Nothing, nothing can be worse than losing to Pratt on clay, I never knew that Flavia hit that low in her career... Alexa is a way better player than Nicole, so this can´t be worse, no matter the score...

Also, Alexa had some very convincing wins this season, so it´s not that bad

Sad for Pennetta, as I really like her. For those thinking she should have won with an injury, you obviously don't play much tennis. If she had a bad injury, it affects your play in major ways. I think it's clear that Glatch has the kind of game that can be overwhelming at times, though, so perhaps that was the main problem out there today for Pennetta.

In her interview, Glatch said she was inspired by the upcoming USA vs Fed Cup final. Wanted to make a statement that she could play on red clay and not just on fast indoor courts like Brno. Said she wants to see Venus and Serena play so USA can win, but just really wants to be part of the team.

Alexa sounds like a young American on the rise and if she does well at the French she will give MJ plenty of food for thought for the fed cup final. I know it's not until November but they will be playing on clay and Alexa results between now and then will be worth watching. I heard she's being coached by Robert Van't Hof and if that true no wonder her results have improved. :)

I suppose that, when Glatch is serving big (stats for yesterday show her fastest serve at 193 km/h :eek: ), letting it rip with her FH, which I suppose has improved, and actually getting those BH slices and assorted junk in, she can be very tricky to play against as she'll give her opponents no rhythm whatsoever.

Alexa was coming back last year off of what were some really bad injuries from a motor scooter accident and is only now regaining the form that had many of us thinking she might be the next big thing from the US of A.

So you probably didn't see her at her best. Though she can still go into :help: mode sometimes.
