Their only two meetings have both been on the clay courts of Rome, and Venus has won both of them. (6-1 6-4; 6-2 4-6 6-2)

Who will win?

Safaraova is known for playing well when it counts.
Anyone remember 2007 AO when she ousted Amelie

If the Queen decides to be "the Queen"... then she will win.

If the Queen decides to be "a hot mess".... well, good luck in Wimbledon :tape:

Venus first set
Lucie second set

Third set? Whomever wins the first game. =O

Martina said it best. Venus storms the first set and loses momentum in the second.

It will be a close first set.
The winner of the first set will get destroyed in the second set.
Third set will go to Venus.

So either 7-6, 2-6, 6-2 or 5-7, 6-3, 6-1

something like that.

I honestly don't think it will be that close. Safarova doesn't worry me. Unless Venus throws in a UE fest, then she should win this in 2 sets, or 3 sets with the first and last being easy ones and teh middle being a hiccup.

Venus already had a second set workout from Mattek, the same thing won´t happen again

Besides taking a set off Venus in Rome, Lucie took one decisively from Safina in Madrid, and the sets she won against Lisicki today had strong scorelines. So she's capable of taking at least a set.

These two are my favorite players, so I hate it that they're playing each other so early. But I'll be happy to see both of them.

I am still waiting to see Vee's first match to assess how she is playing. However, being a fan I am picking Vee but not sure if it will take three.

You act like it was a close 3 setter? Vee had complete control with her 6-1,4-6,6-2 win. She had a lapse in the second set but she was not close to being upset? Maybe if the final set had been 6-4, 7-5, etc then yes she would have "Dodged a massive bullet" but with a 4-0 lead and a 6-2 set no. Vee was in control.

Don't be kidding yourself. When you win in 3 sets you don't have "complete control".

I wouldn't be the least bit shocked to see Venus go down to Safarova. Her game is just always a hot mess in Paris.

maybe you speak too soon? I think Safarova has at least as good a chance to beat Venus as Lisicki here.

Venus please bring your B+ game ... that's good enough to win in 2. Keep the B+ game until Quarters, then we'll need your A game for the final 3 matches.
