probably a three setter, maria had trouble with her last year on clay and on hardcourts, so will be tough for mash... but i think she'll come through, if she can keep the mini brain farts under control!

Maria's form this week has been very encouraging and it does look like she on her way back. But Alona has been playing at a very high level these last couple of weeks and I think it is too early in Maria's comeback to expect her to beat someone playing that well. Beating an out of form Tathiana Garbin and Darya Kustova is one thing. Beating a very in-form Alona Bondarenko is something else entirely.

Alona is a very attractive young lady.

If she keeps her body in good shape, and starts winning some high level matches, maybe even a grand slam or two, she could start getting more of those lucrative contracts for modeling like the ones which bring in 25 million a year for Maria.

Poor Maria. She never has had raw sex appeal, even as a teenager---hers could be better described as "nicely-done". But she has her sort of raw moments.

I think some of you forgotten that this is Clay and not hard court. Clay suits Alona alot better than Maria. Yes Alona has lost to Maria on Clay but thats the green shit. This time its on Euro red clay and Alona is in hot form in Madrid.

If Alona was still playing on the level she was playing against Vaidisova there is every chance Sharapova would, even now, be able to double bagel her. But this is a different Alona Bondarenko. Form can sometimes turn around very quickly in tennis and while a few weeks ago Alona was playing absolutely atrociously, now she is playing some of the very best tennis of her career. Big difference.

it'll be interesting to see how Alona handles the pressure of being the favorite. Based on form obviously Alona should win but Sharapova has zero pressure and can play free tennis while Alona will be tense w/ the expectation of winning the match.
I say Sharapova plays a horror match at some point in her first few tournaments back but it won't be against Alona. Sharapova 26 75 64
