May 20th, 2009, 11:33 AM Please put 'Darya Kustova' into the title. There are two players in a tennis match, even if she was kinda crappy today. Well done Masha :inlove: disco_rage May 20th, 2009, 11:33 AM Well done Maria. Mikey. May 20th, 2009, 11:33 AM Yay Maria  Noctis May 20th, 2009, 11:33 AM Davai Easy.Alona the real test begins goldlion May 20th, 2009, 11:33 AM She was in great form, if she gets a good draw in RG, I beleive she can make it into second week. Libertango May 20th, 2009, 11:35 AM Maria looks so good already!:D mckyle. May 20th, 2009, 11:35 AM Very nice! Marilyn Monheaux May 20th, 2009, 11:35 AM Never in doubt:cool: Alona will be a harder opponent though! Russianboy May 20th, 2009, 11:36 AM Wow how did she play? Is she really back now? 28 winners, 17 UE I think. quite good stats. and she was playing good. louisa. May 20th, 2009, 11:36 AM :woohoo: :woohoo: VishaalMaria May 20th, 2009, 11:36 AM Wow how did she play? Is she really back now? She played great, but is she really back now? You can't tell. You have to understand that she was playing a weak opponenet today, an opponent hitting quite alot of short balls for Maria to attack on. Lets just wait and see Maria play someone with a better game. Good match Maria. Pops Maellard May 20th, 2009, 11:37 AM Go Maria! Rumkin May 20th, 2009, 11:37 AM First serve 77% DF 3 Winners 29 UE 17 Overal good job Masha :yeah: InsideOut. May 20th, 2009, 11:37 AM Wow how did she play? Is she really back now? Serve was shaky as usual but has improved from Monday. Her groundstrokes were excellent and she returned very well like she did on Monday. Still made quite a number of silly errors though that she definitely should cut down on. Defence was pretty impressive though. Marilyn Monheaux May 20th, 2009, 11:38 AM Wow how did she play? Is she really back now? Her serve is not as powerful as it used to be, but no real surprise there. It's still strong and she had 77% 1st serves in. Her return is great and her groundies are rock-solid most of the time! Best shot today was her fhdtl imo! I liked what I saw, especially her focus!:worship: Emina. May 20th, 2009, 11:40 AM wow congrats Mariaa :bigclap::bigclap::bigclap::bigclap::bigclap: keep it up!!! :bounce: :woohoo: Shafanovic. Good luck in your next round. ;) Mikey B May 20th, 2009, 11:46 AM she played really well, but could have played better!! her opponent didnt do much, maria had a mini collapse that gave darya two games, but other than that maria was great. but i think she needs to pick it up another gear to beat bondarenko... great to watch if you're a maria fan!! KV May 20th, 2009, 11:47 AM Terrific :) Andy. May 20th, 2009, 11:49 AM WOW what an imoressive display considering how long she had been out of the game. She hasnt played anyone of merit yet but I cenrtainly wasnt expecting results like this so early. Well done Masha Nikkiri May 20th, 2009, 11:49 AM amaze. serenus_2k8 May 20th, 2009, 11:59 AM Sounds positive! Sexysova May 20th, 2009, 12:01 PM well done Maria :) WIMBLY2004 May 20th, 2009, 12:32 PM Well done Maria, good luck in the next match! Interesting, but difficult match for Maria. Maria vs Alona should have been final of Warsaw.:o:( Tala Igasho May 20th, 2009, 12:58 PM DAVAIIIIIII! Maybe Darya's starstruck! :) kbw72688 May 20th, 2009, 01:09 PM Congratulations, but did anyone honestly expect Kustova to trouble Sharapova? She is ranked in the 200's and I think this is only her second WTA maindraw...I think Bondarenko will take her out in the next round. H.A.M. May 20th, 2009, 01:09 PM Her groundies and returns are as great as they used to be. On the other hand, her serve is a mess! madlove May 20th, 2009, 01:11 PM wow. not too shabby Andrew Laeddis May 20th, 2009, 01:15 PM Maria :bounce: The serve seemed a lot better than it was in your 1st match. youizahoe May 20th, 2009, 01:36 PM well done boo :) Vaidisova Ruled May 20th, 2009, 01:39 PM Maria:worship: But I don't think her serve was that bad today (I stoped watching at 62 10). And I think it's not totally the same that she had in 07. I like this one, it's pretty, but not really powerful (but not weak either). InsideOut. I like this one, it's pretty, but not really powerful (but not weak either). I honestly prefer her 07 one. This one yielded even more DFs. :( SAEKeithSerena May 20th, 2009, 01:45 PM she is so winning this title! Foot's Fingers May 20th, 2009, 01:45 PM Congrats Next match - first real test for Maria Good Luck!!! hablo May 20th, 2009, 01:47 PM This match looked easy for Sharapova as her opponent was very weak imo. Sharapova's_Boy May 20th, 2009, 01:48 PM Maria :worship: TennisViewer531 May 20th, 2009, 01:49 PM Bondarenko can be a dangerous opponent, wasn't she the one who upset Svetlana in Madrid? InsideOut. May 20th, 2009, 01:50 PM This match looked easy for Sharapova as her opponent was very weak imo. Indeed. Maria should not have lost those 2 games, to be honest. :( She lost her serve with a double fault. :o Still needs to work on stabilizing the serve but she's playing OK. However, Alona was very impressive today and the next match should give us a more accurate indicator of where she is right now. Kustova today had a nice backhand, an OK serve, a good smash, but a very weak forehand and clueless net play. In other words, a slower Alona Bondarenko without net play and a weaker forehand. ;) InsideOut. May 20th, 2009, 01:51 PM Bondarenko can be a dangerous opponent, wasn't she the one who upset Svetlana in Madrid? 6-3 6-2. :worship: Maria has played her twice and neither time was it easy. 6-2 5-7 6-4 at Indian Wells and 6-7(9) 6-3 6-2 at Amelia Island, both last year. So we can be sure it will be close. Vaidisova Ruled May 20th, 2009, 01:51 PM I honestly prefer her 07 one. This one yielded even more DFs. :( she's not making as DFs with thin one as with her 08 serve (RG 08 ) And I think her serve (with time) will get better 2-3 months ago, there were some videos of her trainings at the Nick Bollitieri academy and her serve is now way better than the one she had 2 months ago Kitten63 May 20th, 2009, 02:00 PM Well done Maria! RenaSlam. May 20th, 2009, 02:02 PM Go on, Maria. Cakeisgood May 20th, 2009, 02:19 PM amaze. +1 Sammm May 20th, 2009, 03:11 PM :yeah: I'm excited to see how she fares against Bondarenko :yeah: franny May 20th, 2009, 04:06 PM It's so great just to have her back. I watched highlights of the match, and it does not seem like her opponent really had the game to bother her at all. I'm still so worried about the serve, because it is one of her biggest weapons. Without it, I'm not sure she can reach the level of success she had before. We'll see how this new service motion holds up in the coming months. The old one was so great though! Convoluted May 20th, 2009, 04:16 PM For some players succes comes from constant evolution (see justine's about 14 different serve motions/forehands) I thought she looked quite impressive, although against this opponent anyone from the top 20 would probably have looked impressive. Bondarenko should be a much better indicator. espntennis May 20th, 2009, 04:19 PM Wtg Masha. Best of luck in QF Aravanecaravan May 20th, 2009, 04:21 PM The questions about her serve are really overblown. It's her first week back after major surgery on her shoulder--of course she is going to be conservative. She's playing players who she could beat left handed. Why drop a nuclear bomb on an anthill when a cherry bomb would do nicely? gmak May 20th, 2009, 04:25 PM masha :yeah: :D :rocker: first real test is Bondarenko 2moretogo May 20th, 2009, 04:42 PM Beat who? Kustova was lucky to win two games, I don't care what surface it is. Adal May 20th, 2009, 04:43 PM Maria :hearts: Good luck in the QF. Harju. May 20th, 2009, 04:49 PM Congrats Maria! Next match would be a good gauge to see how Maria will compete @ RG. Maria Croft May 20th, 2009, 04:51 PM Now that's some improvement over the first match! :D The real test comes now, win or lose it's really just to see how evertyhing holds up in this next match. Well done Maria! Temperenka May 20th, 2009, 04:52 PM  Well done, Masha! WowWow May 20th, 2009, 04:57 PM Yeah baby!:D Apoleb May 20th, 2009, 05:00 PM Very impressive returning. It seems that this is an area in her game that she has been actively working on. Her serving doesn't look as good as before, but I guess the plan is to scale it down a bit, cause the serving motion was causing all the problems. Temperenka May 20th, 2009, 05:14 PM The questions about her serve are really overblown. It's her first week back after major surgery on her shoulder--of course she is going to be conservative. Those dropshots were simply awful and embarrassing and gave Pova every opportunity to hit an easy winner. The match against Alona will probably be a real test for Pova and her shoulder :wavey: Lefty. May 20th, 2009, 07:42 PM :clap2: Best of luck against Bondarenko. :yeah: sweetpeas May 20th, 2009, 07:48 PM Who's Darya?Wild card!!!!!!!1 hurricanejeanne May 20th, 2009, 08:29 PM Maria! :bounce: Nice scoreline. Beat Alone please. cn ireland May 20th, 2009, 09:49 PM Fantastic win Maria:banana:! Good luck in the QF:bounce:!!! StephenUK May 20th, 2009, 11:26 PM Kustova's Last Stand! :O Well, good for Maria, she's got a couple of matches now. Bondarenko is definitely the toughest opponent she will play before the final and probably in the tournament so that will be a good test. switz May 20th, 2009, 11:47 PM it will be interested to see how she goes against a player who can put her under pressure. She couldn't have asked for a more cushioned draw to the quarters. That's not to say she isn't playing well, but she needs to beat Bondarenko. | |
