Galina won yet another 10k title in Egypt over the weekend, her 10 title I think, and I know it's been talked about in the past but why is she only playing events there?

If it's for fun only and she can win a few thousand a long the way with every win great. But she is only 25 and wasn't she touted as being of the Russia's most promising players?

What is her exact story folks?

Fokina, a coach at the Gezira Sporting Club, had retired from the pro circuit some five years ago, but took the opportunity to play with the pros at the local tournament. With her Ukrainian partner, Alyona Sotnikova, she also took home the doubles trophy.

I've been wondering about Fokina's situation (ie, why she only plays in Egypt) since I first came across her name.

This thread provides some explanations. Still, it's a mystery why she would have retired five years ago, as she's currently 25 years old. That means she retired when she was only 20 years old!

Also, she clearly enjoys tennis and is top 300 material, at least, so why doesn't she play bigger tournaments ($25K), for example in Turkey, the Gulf or Morocco (if she doesn't like to travel far)?

By the way folks if this is newsworthy to you, Galina's opponent last weekend was Laura Pous-Tio, who hasn't played herself in almost two years. Laura managed to win the doubles title though.

This weekend the two might face each other in the semi's of the current event in Egypt.

Would be interesting to know what she plans for the future.

I remember seeing Galina play when she was a full time pro and ranked in the top 200. She was very talented, I wonder why she retired so early?
