Patty is too good on clay for a ball-basher like JJ. Wonder what excuses Jelena will proffer for this one. Maybe if she got rid of that boring off-grey dress, her play might perk up a bit. Kudos to Patty for a job well done.

jelena looked lost in that second set. she virtually had no clue as to what she was doing on court, just bashing the ball... her game plan is falling apart... so sad to see that, with the RG just around the corner, and everyone thought this RG was her chance of that grand slam title she desperatly wants. i, as her huge fan, have to say she'll be lucky to make it to the week two at the French with this game.

The ten commandments for Jelena.

1. Sanchez MUST go asap.....not the slightest pogress with him at all.
2. Finally show the ultimate determination to give everything.
3. Hire an psychologist to find that killer-instinct button and work on your mental preparation.
4. Work your ass off on your serve.
5. Work your ass off on your fh.
6. Forget about the No. 1 spot quick. This is the past.
7. Finally realise that you MUST change something.
8. Don't fool yourself any longer that you can win a GS with that, you would need too much luck.
9. If you want to win one, push everything else aside.
10. Be aware of the fact, that all your fans and supporters will be always behind you (including me), but please don't torture them any longer with that kind of play and concider about all the things above.

Only the way of the warrior can bring you to glory......I hope you are finally heading that way, it's about time.

GO JJ:bounce:

Yet it was under Sanchez's guidance that she reached her first Slam final, won three titles in a row, and finished year-end number 1. Ricardo Sanchez was quite frankly good for her game at first, but might have gone one step too far.

^^ Pretty much describes my reaction to this result. I was talking with LudwigDvorak last night and told him that I hoped that Patty wouldn't get bagelled like she did in their last meeting on clay. I did not see the match, but hopefully it is uploaded later so I can watch it in its entirety. Jankovic's strategy in Rome two years ago was to pummel Patty's backhand and make sure she never got a forehand. Can someone tell me what happened today that she was not able to implement that plan?

Two top five wins in the past two weeks for Mrs. Schnyder--not bad. :)

Patty outsmarted and outplayed Jelena.
Her (I mean Patty's) backhand was quite solid, her drop shots were perfect, her moonballs were rather deep.
Jelena was lost on the court. She kept coming to the net (especially in the second set) but her volleys and overheads were either poor executed or horribly placed or both. That miss on MP was :help:

Completely different story this time. It's not like Jelena hadn't implement her plan, Patty had the game under her control most of the time.:D Patty found a way to rule with FH the plenty of rallies; because of the movement, because of the prediction the opponent; and as for BH - backspin shots from this wing were really effective.

To sum it: Jelena allowed Patty to create and that was her fault.:)

Basically, JJ kept on going back to Patty's forehand this time, because she was totally scared of the drop shots and slices and everything coming from the backhand side, since she's not quick enough to get to those these days. :help: And Patty just spun her round and round around the court, taking JJ out of her comfort zone, and just forced JJ to attack quickly and come in for drive volleys and such, and that's just not Jelena's game. Patty got all her drive volleys back and exposed JJ's lack of confidence at the net with her 'poke' volleys over the net :tape: and Patty just passed her easily. There was still the occasional point where Patty would be like, backhand went out by a mile, who cares, but overall she stayed pretty focused and made JJ completely self-destruct. Patty :bounce::worship:

Couldn't be more proud of Patty's effort this week. I thought she had a chance to reach the quarters if she played exceptionally well, so she has exceeded my expectations by getting to the semi's. Great fight in today's match as well:)

Not expecting anything against Dinara, she will probably lose easily but it doesn't really matter :) Because she reached the semi finals!

When it comes down to a contest on clay between a great 'cat & mouse' player and a great pusher, the former wins just about every time.

That´s one of the many reasons people keep saying Jelena won´t win roland garros or any other grand slams, just because of losses like this... What the fuck happened for her to lose, and in straight sets???? please...

Defending to the middle
This is something, as a tennis player, you try to avoid as much as possible.
Against a player with the capability of generating good angles with their topsin groundstrokes, like Patty, this is something that MUST be avoided.
Yet, JJ would do this and Patty would jump on it. The points JJ defended cross court, she almost always won. Sanchez might want to work on that for next time.

Poor Execution
JJ actually played some very good points. Vintage JJ. Moving the ball around and opening the court and running her opponent till she hit the winner. However, these points were few and far between.
Most of the time, while trying to create on court, she would make an error or play a stupid shot.
The epitome of this was the second point on Schnyder's service game at 4-3.
Here we see JJ defending up the middle, after Patty hits an angled forehand. This pattern goes on for a couple shots till JJ goes on the offensive with a hard cross court backhand. Patty offers up a weak reply and here is where JJ's execution fails.

She hits a backhand up the line approach (correct shot) but the accuracy is not great (the shot is going more towards the middle) and it isn't deep enough. Translation: Patty has enough time to get to it.
Because Patty only has to take one step to get to the ball, JJ doesn't have enough time to close the net and ends up hitting her volley at the service line!
2nd mistake from JJ is she doesn't cover the line but approaches towards the middle. This coupled with the bad approach makes her a sitting duck at net.
So a point that she had worked to her advantage, she ended up losing.
Not to mention the disaster of a service game she had when she was serving to stay in the match.
Story of the match for Jelena. Bad day I suppose.

She definitely has the game in her but don't know what is up with her right now.

JJ
Expected
If she was playing like last year now, she would have a good chance at RG.

Only saw the TB and the 2nd set (i.e. what ES showed).

Jankovic looked like she didn't care in the 2nd. Three times as many sloppy errors as she usually makes - and that is in one of her bad days. She either believed she had already got enough matches on clay before RG or the loss of the 1st set (and the losses at Stuttgart and Rome) really got to her.

Great win Patty, good to see her winning matches again.

Shame for JJ but something clearly isn't working

Patty's back! But I won't be surprised if she loses in early matches at the FO. I guess she's really inspired today...

Patty is too good on clay for a ball-basher like JJ. Wonder what excuses Jelena will proffer for this one. Maybe if she got rid of that boring off-grey dress, her play might perk up a bit. Kudos to Patty for a job well done.

Now we have the answer: Fire trainer Riccardo Sanchez. JJ is nothing if not predictable.

Patty is too good on clay for a ball-basher like JJ.A good example of .....

'ball-basher' = offensive baseliner you dislike

'pusher' = defensive baseliner you dislike
