This is the final event before the season-ending championships. Na Li, Ivanovic and Safarova are currently outside the Top 8 but still have chances to qualify and will have to do well this week.

Congratulations Lindsay on the title two weeks ago!
Since you've won so many titles do small tournaments wins still feel special?
Thanks. Hmm I'm not sure any tournaments could be considered small. I mean all the
best players were here, I was just too good this week. Of course I value my Aussie
Open more than anything but I think every title is special.

You have always been consistently in the top 15, whats your secret to always bieng in the top?
I guess it's because I always win my first couple of matches. Before the start of a tournament I've
usually had enough rest which is when I play my best tennis. Unfortunately I am not as young as I
once was so I get tired easily which is why you see me lose alot of QF's and SF's. But at least
I'm winning those early rounds every week which is why I always have a good ranking.

You face Petrova or Peer next, what will do you know about them, and what will you do to win?
I don't really look at my opponents too much. I know if I play my game, I win. And there's nothing
anybody can do to change that.

You are very close to catching up to Kournikova at the 5 slot, what will you do to zero in the spot?
That is one of my main aims for now. Firstly I'd like to concentrate on playing good tennis and overtaking
her that way. But if it gets too close to the end of the season and I'm still not there I guess I could pull
a few strings with my good friend Chris, the Tour Director. One way or another, I will be top 5 soon enough.

What are your goals for the end of the season?
To keep winning as many matches as possible, hopefully
a few more titles, get a YEC spot. And of course there's
my 89th birthday coming up so I don't want to be too tired
for that.

Venus must have been gald to see someone other than Hantuchova against her here today in the final! Once Venus won a tight opener she ran away with it an picks up her 4th title of the season. She will advance to the YEC in London next week oozing with confidence. Good week for Azarenka after a rather disappointing season - she will hope to use this as a springboard for next season.
