:p

I think it's time. I've talked to Ula and Veronika via PM and they both agreed to this thread. So now I've made it. We can discuss anything. From other tennis players to food to music to ourselves, ...
I'll start. I'm Andrew. I'm from New York (originally from Greece)
What do you guys think about Eurovision this year?

I'm Dorien from Belgium :p

I don't follow eurovision. I only now that Hadise has a good song and is going for Turkey to the eurovision and not for Belgium

Oh:sad:
It's a good song, but I don't like it:p
I mean, it's okay, but it seems like she copied Elena Paparizou's type of music:rolleyes:
Belgium is okay, but it won't win:sad:
Greece, Cyprus, Armenia, Bulgaria, Germany, Russia, Ireland, Romania, and a few others have good songs in my opinion;)

Who do you like in men's tennis? What other sports do you like?

Dorien.
May 12th, 2009, 08:29 PM
I like Roger Federer and the Belgians: Olivier Rochus, Xavier Malisse, Dick Norman en Ruben Bemelmans.

I like a lot of sports ;)

I like a lot of sports too:D
On MTF, Baghdatis, Roddick, Blake, Djokovic and Economidis are the active players in my sig:p
I also have Philippoussis, Agassi and Sampras there;)
And all Greeks and Americans:)

I also post in other threads/forums, like Krajinovic, Tipsarevic, Troicki, Hanescu, and a few others but no where near as much as here:lol:

Yeah, I think Bulgaria isn't that great. I only heard the highlights of it and it didn't seem bad. The actual thing was:help: though. I was in the bathroom during it;):o:lol:

Hi, Ula:wavey:
I've played handball a few times at football practice, actually played once at a gym. It is very fun. When I was in Greece during the summer I saw some Olympic Handball and my cousin and I were impressed. It's a cool sport. I don't follow professional handball though, but this thread could change that:p

How about non-Eleni tennis chat. Who wins RG? I must say that Safina is the clear favorite now. She has been the most consistent on clay. It was between her and Kuznetsova for me, but now with Kuzzy's loss today I really don't know. At this point, Sharapova could be a heavy favorite:lol:

Ula, are you attending the Warsaw tournament next week?

Hi all :wavey:

I didn't post earlier in this thread because I was in Madrid at the tennis tournament.Great experience despite my favourite lost.I wish Eleni had played there,it was really easy to see all the players practising and talking to them.Maybe another year if she ever regains her ranking...

As for RG,I think Safina is the clear favourite

Did you guys just see Eurovision? My heart was pounding in the final moments of the voting (then my Polish friend told me that Greece got through just before I saw it:D)
I think it was messed up. How did Estonia and Croatia and Lithuania get through and not Cyprus or Ireland or Poland?

I won't attend Warsaw Cup. No reason for me to go there, really. No Eleni, no Kata, absolutely nobody I care about. As for RG, I hope one day Rogi will win it or at least somebody will beat Nadal...
As for handball, here is my reason :)

Gro Hammerseng & Katja Nyberg, the most adorable and probably the most beutiful sport couple in the world (at least OUT). Norwegian handball players, Beijing Olympics Champions, back-to-back European Champions and two time World Championships runner ups. National team members, club teammates and life partners. They just make me believe in love again, they're so in love it's just heart-warming.

I think Gro is more attractive, but neither one strikes me;)
I've had enough Norway today if you know what I mean:lol:
I'll admit it, they had a good song, but I don't think they were that good that they won by like 200 points, let alone winning it by 1 point:tape:
We came in 7th I think. Or was it 6th:unsure:
I thought that we had a chance, but I was expecting a top 5 or something:shrug:
I also think Romania was too good to finish that low.

Also, Anna Gerasimou played in WTA Warsaw qualies today:p (but she lost to Arn 16 63 36 or something like that:o)
But you don't like any Polish girls? Aga? Ula? Marta? Kasia? ?????

Oh, and I think Nadal will win it this year again even though I hate him. My sister will be happy at least:shrug:
I think he will beat Roger in the final, and Novak and Roddick.
Juan Martin, Murray, Verdasco and Wawrinka lose in QF's;)
James, Gonzalez, Davydenko, Safin, Troicki (), Simon, Monflis, Tsonga lose in R4
Women:
Safina d. Venus in F
Kuznetsova, Dementieva lose in SF
Serena, Ana, Jelena, and Caroline lose in QF
Amelie, Flavia, Marion, Agnes, Vika, Aga, Nicole, and Masha lose in R4

So did you guys watch ESC yesterday? My thoughts:
Norway-Maybe they deserved to win, but not by that much. They're song was good, but not that good.
Iceland-I guess they deserved top 5, but 2nd place seems like too much:shrug:
Azerbaijan-Definitely didn't deserve #3. I'd put it between 5 and 10.
Turkey-4th place was pretty deserved IMO:shrug:. Maybe it deserved higher:unsure:
UK-5th place? I'd give it like 10th. It wasn't even that good. How could Greece give that 12 points?:tape:
Estonia-I can't understand how everyone likes that song. I think it is so dull and boring. I'd say it deserved like 15th place or so.
Greece-I think we deserved higher than 7th place. A nice 3rd-5th position would satisfy me:D
France-Similar to what I said about Estonia. 15th place or so.
Bosnia and Herzegovina-Similar to Estonia and France.
Armenia-I think they really deserved 10th place. I loved their song, but it isn't very European, so 10th is good. Maybe as high as 7th or 8th.
Russia-11th place seems pretty deserved.
Ukraine-Definitely deserved much more than 12th place. I thought that was a lock for the top 5.
Denmark-13th place seems right for them this year.
Moldova-14th place seems just about right. They could've been as high as 7 or 8 in my opinion.
Portugal-15th place seems right. No higher than 12 or 13. No lower than 17 or 18.
Israel-16th place isn't right. They were definitely a top 10 song. Maybe as high as top 5.
Albania-17th place = not too good. Top 10 is more reasonable for that song IMO.
Croatia-18th place might be too high for them. I'd put them between 23 and 25.
Romania-19th is way too low for such a great song. At least top 10. When that song came out, I was afraid it would smoke the competition. This song is way to underrated.
Germany-20th place isn't really good for them. I'd put them between 10 and 15.
Sweden-21st place = pretty deserved. No more than 15-20th place.
Malta-22nd place is too low for them. Anything between 10 and 15 would be good. I feel sorry for Chiara. She almost won ESC 2 times and now she got a low place. Can you compete in ESC more than 3 times? If not, then Chiara will never be in it again:sad:. And neither will Anna Vissi:bigcry:
Lithuania-23rd place is enough for them:lol:
Spain-23rd place too (it was a tie). I'd put them at about 10.
Finland-Maybe not last place. 20th would be fine for them:shrug:

Guys, please comment on this. I didn't want to waste all this time for nothing:o

hellas719
May 17th, 2009, 04:51 PM
If I was in Greece now, I would've voted:
12-Armenia
10-Romania
8-Norway
7-Moldova
6-Ukraine
5-Spain
4-Germany
3-Israel
2-Azerbaijan
1-Turkey

I also think that Montenegro, Serbia, Cyprus (bias:o), Ireland, and Hungary deserved spots in the final;)

Spain is a great time, they're European Champions. Slovakia and Slovenia should be within your reach, I hope. I'll cheer for Greece :) Personally, I'm more interested in womens volleyball even though my fave Maggie Glinka is no longer playing (shes expecting her first baby somewhen in June). first of all hi to all!those i like and those i dont like!its the truth sorry lol.
well done and congrats to roger!!!but please repeat that kind of win play in RG!!!!
as about the eurovision song contest!!!norway wasnt that special!i didnt like the song from the get go!!!i also disliked the singers face so much!!!
Iceland was great!!!yohanna has a powerful voice and a great face!!!thats why she scored that high!if she could have done a better promotion of the song she would have score a lot higher and maybe threat norvway!!!for sure!!!but the fact that her country bankrupt didnt help!!!
as for the rest estonia was also great,as it was azerbaijan etc!greece did the best they could!sakis was amazing and a perfect showman!i am still socked that he didnt score higher but....we should have expected this kind of voiting especially after the comeback of the juries!!!
roumania for example gave greece 8 points! the juries gave 6 to sakis!which means what u guys???in order to get a total of 8 points it means that the public gave 10 to greece! 6+10=16/2=8!!!

for eurovision thats a big difference!i mean from 6 to 10!!!its unfair not only for greece but for many others to get this kind of treatment!how can 5 people (juries) have this kind of power?how can they be fair and not biased?take this kind of power away!

I mean, they're good but what have they done in the past 10 years other than WC 2006? Euro 2008 QF's was good but doesn't really impress me. I can compare WC 2010 to RG 2009 women's draw since it is very open. So basically there are like 10 countries that have good chances to win:p

 your post made me laugh,Andrew for different things.

I'm not russian even if you might think so by the flag and my user name, just russophile,I'm very interested in Russia's language and culture, but I'm spanish ;) so answering your question,I don't root for countries in Fed Cup,only if my favourite players are playing it.I don't even root for Spain unless Carla is playing.I admit last year I was rooting strong for Spain in SF,but that was only because I knew the russians would come to play here for the final and I wanted to see them live.
So for the question, it would depend of the situation,if Eleni was playing that Fed Cup final,I'd root for her no matter what russian player she was playing, only exception being Sveta,in that case,I'd enjoy the fight of my 2 faves trying to give their country a win.Same if they faced France and my other big favourite was involved in the tie.But I think it's very difficult this situation happens.Russia and France are in world group,Greece is not.

Seriously though, it will take a long time to finish, but it will be interesting to see who we pick. It is very time consuming, it took me over an hour and I'm almost done with the qualifiers. The rules are that you need to follow the qualifying procedure and that you need to go match-by-match for the qualifying (I did it in paper but I don't feel like typing the results:o)
And if you need clarification on the procedure for each zone, just ask me;)
But it would be nice to post all results of the maindraw/group stage :)

Jun 15th, 2009, 01:08 AM
The volleyball thread is now up;)
So I'll talk about my trip to Hershey Park. Right away I went on this Reese's ride. It was pretty lame:o. It was like a roller coaster for kids aged 5-10:shrug:
I then went on Pirate two times. It was this boat that rocks back and forth but goes up and down all the way. It was very scary but also very fun. I went on the Claw after that. It was upside down and very dizzy. I thought it was okay. I heard that someone threw up after I went on it and they had to close the ride for the day:scared:
I went on this lame car driving thing. It was so dumb and a big waste of time. The line was really long too, and it wasn't worth it:(
I went on Music Express which was really slow and it was for little kids. There were bees all over it too:tape:
I went in the Water Park and got soaked but had a blast. The slides were so much fun:D
I played two games of skee ball and did terrible in both:tape:. So basically I wasted a dollar on that:lol:
I went on a wooden roller coaster called Wildcat. I hated it. It was so bumpy. It really hurt. I went on a roller coaster called wild mouse. It was good but I thought it was more for little kids. I went on the swings too, they were a little annoying because some stupid little kids behind me were kicking me and laughing:rolleyes:
I went on a wooden roller coaster called the Comet and I liked it even though it was bumpy. I ate at this restaurant and had chicken tenders, fries, and a Greek salad:cool:
I went on the roller soaker, but the line was an hour and a half. The ride was freezing, but I had a blast:D
After that line, I didn't bother going on Great Bear, Stormrunner, or Farenheit, since the line would be insane. I went on the lazy river and had fun but it was too long and got boring after a while. I then went on two wooden roller coasters, Lighting Racer and Wildcat again;)
I went on bumper cars and then played a basketball game and lost (and I'm good at basketball too:mad:). I thought it was funny that I went to Hershey and didn't even buy chocolate:p:rolls:

So tell me about some good experiences in your lives now;)

Oh, and that volleyball thread is up:D

And regarding your question, I don't know when and where I could see Eleni again, wish her calendar was a bit onward not just the next rourney. It would be easier to plan a trip and ask for a vacation at work. I don't even know if we have a tourney in Krakow again this year...

You are a big Eurovision fan, have you ever seen Polish singer Edyta Górniak? She took 2nd place in 1994 (it was Poland's first Eurovision ever and she was 22 years old back then. At that time singers had to sing in their native language). It's a beautiful songs and although video and audio quality isn't so great, I highly reccomend watching. Jul 11th, 2009, 03:13 AM
So, my sister and I left from the beach together. The house was locked, so we went to go get the garage door opener from the car. The car was locked, but the windows were open a little bit. We tried to stick our hand through to click the garage door opener, but we couldn't reach. Then, we tried to reach the lock to pull it up to unlock the door. We couldn't reach though. We were touching it, but we couldn't pull it up. Then I got a small flagpole from the ground to try and hit the garage door opener with it, but we couldn't get it. We tried everything! Street refelctiors, we broke a gardening bucket to get the handle, we used a twing. We have our boat in the driveway (we didn't put it in the water yet:o), so I went up the ladder and into the boat and I saw a rope with a lock on it (those ones where you push this thing down and you open the lock), so i took that out and we tried to tie it around the lock and pull it up but it wouldn't go. We walked everywhere looking for more things that we could open it with (we should've just gone back to the beach to get keys, but we didn't want to give up). While this was going on, some old man was walking by and he was looking at us like we were criminals. We were hoping he wouldn't call the police or something. So then I kept looking for stuff and when I came back, my sister took the headphones off my i-pod and tied a knot so she could unlock the door. She finally got it! Then, my mom came like 2 seconds later, so we did that all for nothing and wasted an hour. Then my sister opened the car door and pushed the garage door button and then the garage opened, but the car alarm went off:lol:
It was so funny:rolls:

I follow athletics sometimes ;)

For tennis I have to say my interest is decreasing a lot in the last weeks since all my faves are sucking at the moment.I'm not even looking forward to the USO the way I was for the other slams this year

Well as everybody I'm impressed with Bolt.Is he even human? :help:

My favourite athletes are not having a great championships so far. They are: Yelena Isinbayeva in pole vault :sobbing: ,not sure what happened to her and not sure how this failure will affect her in the future as she's not used to lose, let alone finish last :help: Then I also like Ariane Friedrich that I met in world indoors in Valencia last year and was super nice.I wanted her to win gold in front of her homecrowd and she came short  My other favourite still to compete is Naide Gomes from Portugal in the long jump.I hope she can do better than the previous 2 but I'm still afraid of what happened in Beijing. Not again, please :help:

But my favourite athlete ever is Merlene Ottey :worship: but I think she's not competing anymore.

What are yours?

hellas719
Aug 21st, 2009, 09:43 PM
Well I think Bolt dopes. Soon he'll do 100m in 6 seconds:lol:
I like a lot of the Greek athletes, an this is probably the worst championships for them ever!
I don't know if they won anything today though:p

I also like Blanka Vasic, Asafa Powell, a few Americans since I see them on American TV, but my favorite is Greek triple jumper Hrisopiyi Devetzi who isn't competing in Berlin:sad:

How's everybody been? :p
I've been so busy with school :sobbing:. I have a week off next week :woohoo:. It would be great if Eleni does well in Memphis, I'll finally be able to watch her live for the first time since USO 2008 :speakles:. Veronika, do you like all Russians? I mean, I know you like Kuznetsova, Petrova, Kleybanova, and Dushevina, but what about Dementieva and Vesnina? I like them both :p

I'm fine, but tired (I was about to go  ).

Are you going to Memphis tournament? that's cool :D At least you have seen her live before ;)

No, I'm not fan of all the russians, not a fan of Sharapova,Dementieva or Chakvetadze to put some exemples, and Vesnina, yes,I like her a lot.I have seen her twice live and I follow her more for how nice she's with everybody than for her tennis to be honest ;) she's a sweetheart :hearts:

I'm not going to Memphis
I meant livestream but I forgot to type that :haha:
And I saw her on TV at the 2008 US Open ;)
I've never seen her live . I was soooo close at the 2006 US Open against Perry, I got tickets, went, got there early, got a front row seat on Court 7, and it was rained out and they never played :tears:
Have you seen her play?

hellas719
Feb 14th, 2010, 12:20 PM
I was kidding about Dorien making us jealous

Yeah, I'm using it just to follow tennis players and TF posters since most of my friends outside of the tennis world don't have twitter. I'm even following players that I don't root for, like Mirza, Henin, Peer, Zvonareva, Kuznetsova, Wozniacki, Kirilenko, Keothavong, Robson...
Oh and I just added Dorien :D

Bероника
Feb 14th, 2010, 12:48 PM
haha,it's same for me.I have it mainly to follow tennis players and also like to chat with some other TF members.

and thanks to twitter and their doubles partnership I'm starting to like Vika :p her exchanges with Sveta are  and she sounds so crazy and god knows I like crazy people :p

so clay season starts this week,my favourite season :D

So I was wondering what is your favourite season to follow in tennis? if you have one :p

hellas719
Apr 5th, 2010, 08:48 PM
I like the three a lot :D
I love the Australian season, because it's the beginning of the new season :bounce:
I like the clay court season, because it means that Summer is coming, and there are a lot of big events with TV coverage and clay is my favorite surface to play on :)
And I like the US Open series because I live in the US and tennis gets more attention here during that time of year, and I always go to the US Open, but it's depressing because the US Open means that Summer is almost over :tears:

Bероника
Apr 5th, 2010, 09:53 PM
haha, all good reasons ;) what about grass? :p

I like all seasons too but clay is my favourite because since I can remember is the one that gets more coverage here.I only played a couple of times on clay but I liked it more than hardcourt.Clay is also my favourite season to watch tennis live.

hellas719

Lately I've been having great feelings about Eleni. I think she's going to have a great tournament soon. Maybe Fed Cup? She always plays well in Fed Cup and in the Olympics. I'm biased so I'll ask you guys this. Do you think we can be promoted to Group I?
