Week Ending April 19, 2009: She's The Youngest To Ever Do It
Posted Wed Apr 22, 2009 4:06pm PDT by Paul Grein in Chart Watch

Miley Cyrus this week becomes the youngest hit-maker ever to amass three #1 albums on The Billboard 200. The 16-year old overachiever accomplishes the feat as the soundtrack to Hannah Montana: The Movie climbs to #1 in its fourth week. Cyrus breaks a record that had been held by Britney Spears, who was 19 when she landed her third #1 album, Britney, in 2001. Cyrus previously topped the chart with Breakout and Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus. (I'm not counting the first Hannah Montana soundtrack toward Cyrus' total, because she didn't yet have star billing. It was strictly a Hannah album.) Spears' three #1 albums as a teenager were ...Baby One More Time, Oops!...I Did It Again and Britney. Even after all her success, Cyrus is three months younger now than Spears was in November 1998 when she first cracked the Hot 100 with "...Baby One More Time." Fame and fortune at an early age often take a toll on artists (think: Michael Jackson, or for that matter Spears, who went through a rough patch before rebounding with her current album and tour.) I hope Cyrus sidesteps these pitfalls as adroitly as former teen stars Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Christina Aguilera have.

Hannah Montana: The Movie is the first album to appear at #1 that didn't debut in the top spot since the Mamma Mia! soundtrack in August, which took five weeks to climb to #1. Hannah debuted at #2 three weeks ago behind Now 30, then fell to #5, before rebounding to #2 last week behind Rascal Flatts' Unstoppable. Hannah wasn't expected to rise to the top this week. The race for #1 was supposed to be between Rascal Flatts and Day26. But the movie's strong showing at the box-office gave the soundtrack the boost it needed. The album has sold 555,000 copies, which puts it second only to U2's No Line On The Horizon as the best-selling album released in 2009. It bumps Bruce Springsteen's Working On A Dream down to third place.

LOL @ people hating on a 16-year-old achieving something. :o I'm not a fan of Miley Cyrus. I think her music is awful and I probably lose brain cells every time I hear it on the radio. But a record is a record. Good for her.

:spit: :haha: Well somebody is a bit defensive of miley. And what exactly has she inspired them to do?..Telling the little kids: "even if you're a talentless nobody, if you have a dad in the industry to pull strings for you and are a full-time slut with the most annoying voice ever, you can achieve anything?" :hearts: She's not even hot.

Hating on a 16 year old? 16 years old is a resposible age. Im 16 years old too and if shes old enough to walk around being a slut then surely shes old enough for people to tell the truth about her. :)

Im not a fan, but Gaga is extremely talented even if you dont like her music. Check out her wiki page:
Having learned piano by ear at the age of four, Gaga went on to write her first piano ballad at 13 and began performing at open mic nights by the age of 14.[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_GaGa#cite_note-Bio-8) At the age of seventeen, gained early admission to the New York University's Tisch School of the Arts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tisch_School_of_the_Arts), where she studied music.[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_GaGa#cite_note-Bio-8) She honed her writing skills by composing essays and analytical papers focusing on topics such as art, religion and socio-political order.[22] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_GaGa#cite_note-ARTISTdirect-21) However, she withdrew from New York University.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_GaGa#cite_note-mtv_55-6) At age 20, she began working for Interscope Records (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interscope_Records) as a songwriter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songwriter), penning songs for pop acts such as the Pussycat Dolls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pussycat_Dolls).

I hate Miley Cyrus!

She was a disrespectful little bitch on the Jonathan Ross show last night. The was she spoke about Helen Mirren was disgusting.

Then when she didn't think the camera was on her back stage she was all slumped in her chair not paying any attention to anyone. She is a disgusting girl.

i've already read that, all that tells me is shes a complete sell out. the songs shes singing are utter trash. shes obviously making music to sell and not because she wants to push herself and her musical abilities.

at least britney and miley are doing the only thing they can do, lets see gaga out there with a piano and a song that has some true meaning and intresting depth. shes obviously a record company puppet or she would be showing off her talents not her pussy.

having talent and not using it is a bigger crime than a person who maximises their limitted abilities.

this is must be the biggest pile of clichéd rubbish i've ever read. miley cyrus "inspires" people to spend money, and that's it.

supernova, what did she say about helen mirren?

I'm sorry but I don't see how Miley Cyrus can get credit for this #1 album when there are songs by quite a few other artists, namely Taylor Swift who they showed during the commercial for the movie about 5 times which should tell you who really sold that album.
