I just re-watched the matches from the U.S Open Semi Finals in 1999 and 2000.

I know it's been well documented how amazing these matches are between Hingis and Venus but my god....I was still nervous in both - especially in 2000 (since Hingis lost)......I know the results all too well but Martina playing that ''safe'' overhead at 6-4 3-6 5-3 30-15 to take 2 match points still makes me nervous as hell and i cringe everytime after that shot.....Venus's play is just incredible though and it just makes me wish those matches could have gone on for years and years.......the crowd and just everything in 1999 (when Martina won) and 2000 (when Venus won) I dont think has ever been matched. Everyone world-wide could feel how much both of them wanted to win.....just amazing.

:worship: Those matches are classics, I wish the US Open peeps would show them during rain delays instead of craptacular Agassi matches.

I haven't been able to watch replays of either match. I can only watch the ending of the 2000 match because it's a joyous ending ^.^

The whole rivalry was just  though. Just legendary. Even when Hingis came back in 2006, Venus fought tooth and nail for the win in Warsaw - it ran deep

^Oh my God, thats another Venus memory I will NEVER forget. The cramp and the FIGHTING. That was AMAZING!!! I just remember her smacking down winners while not being able to move... And the grunt that she screamed when she just knew she had won the point. WOW! It was similar to the Serena-Hantuchova match. I think im gonna do a video of her struggles.

I'm right there with you!! Those matches were so intense!! :bounce: :bounce: and yeah, that safe overhead from Hingis was a gift for us Williams fans! I remember watching those matches. In '99 just watching Venus' serve FALL APART! That was painful.

Very magical moments - each match was as if it was surreal - you could just feel the tenseness of the match. Amazing stuff!

That 2000 US Open semi final is one of the best matches ever. The tension, the quality of play, it had everything. What a thriller.

and what about that point in the 1999 SF that got Martina to match point. Venus hits an amazing drop shot, Martina gets there and hits a blind passing shot with a one-handed backhand. I don´t think she even believe that point. :worship::worship:

I've never seen the 1999 match, I had such shitty coverage but that entire tournament had numerous great matches..... The 2000 match was great to see Vee 's fight back, V still believed in herself even though she was down...that's something the 2009 Venus should
