Anyone remembers when it was the last time that 3 players with single-handed backhands reached semis in a WTA tournament?

I still remember Wimbledon '94 when all 4 semifinalists had one  And 3 of them had had their 30th birthday already

...winning the title the young 22 year old debutant :hearts:

I could only remember Daniilidou defeating Mauresmo and Henin in QF and SF of Rosmalen-2002.

Gold - Henin
Silver - Mauresmo
Bronze - Molik

That's the last one I know of off the top of my head.

And the one handed backhand is supposed to be a weakness on clay due to the higher ball bounce :spit:

vinci hits double handed backhand last time i saw her play, although rarely

therefore only 2 semi finalists had one handed backhands

Yeah right, like every player would hit eventually a one handed backhand...that doesn't make her a double backhand player :weirdo:

She considers herself that she plays one-handed as her WTA profile says (data provided by the players themselves). End of discussion

yup i rememember when she played clijsters at eastbourne, and schnyder at linz, plenty of double handed backhands were hit by vinci

although her slices were much more effective imo

I've just scoured youtube for ages and can only see one handed slices from her.

I've never seen her hit 2 hands before.

Some players use a one-handed back hand for slice and reach, but two-handed for power and angling. Not sure if that pertains to Vinci though.

oops my mistake, i meant dushevina at eastbourne and schynder at luxembourg lol

interesting that wikipedia and eurosport have roberta down as two handed backhand but wta have her down as single handed. she must have dropped the double handed backhand at some point cuz she definitely used to have one :)

Maybe you're talking about volley at the net.

Roby has always been playing with one handed backhand.

Roberta Vinci (born 18 February 1983 in Taranto, Italy).
Embarked on her professional career in 1999 after winning numerous tournaments in
the amateur arena. With her two-handed backhand packing a real punch, Roberta Vinci took part in the
Palermo tournament but was defeated in the quarter finals by a fellow Italian, Flavia
Pennetta.

It is possible to use a one-handed backhand for some shots and a two-hander for others. Maybe she uses both.

I've seen a lot of Vinci's matches going back to 2004, both live and on tv. I've never ever seen her hit a two handed backhand! She mainly uses slice, but hits with topspin occassionally. But all with one hand!!

He obviously hasn't. I've certainly never seen her play a 2-handed BH. That site saying it is her best shot is nearly as baffling. :tape:
