It's the time of the year when film festivals announce their films, and the Summer blockbuster line up begins to take shape. Tell us which films made your "to watch" list (shamelessly promote them if no one else will :p ) or recommend an obscure film you want everyone to see!

Earth probably the documentary that will make history come awards season. No other film will equal its prestige or ability to win awards and top ten film lists from critics. It opens earlier than most Oscar hopefuls, 4/22/09, but no worries it'll still wipe everyone's clock come September.

9 Post Apocalyptic animated film with stunning visuals. Trailer looks awesome!
http://l.yimg.com/eb/ymv/us/img/hv/photo/movie_pix/focus_features/9/9_smalltitle.jpg

Where The Wild Things Are The fantasy story now becomes a movie! The trailer looks impressive and it takes us back to those 80's fantasy films like "Legend" and " The Neverending Story".

Dreamboy based on the tragic novel about a boy who is sexually abused by his father  Not the type of movie you go on your first date. Read the book a few years ago, and then watched the movie earlier this year, yup! Life sucks! :sobbing: Hope it gets some nominations at the Indie Spirit and other awards! (Limited release April )

Antichrist better to be stuck with Satan than getting raped by your father! At least that's my philosophy :p This horror flick promises to be a little treasure for an otherwise Horror-less year.

I Love You Phillip Morris a most likely NC-17 movie for its scandalous homosexual sex scenes between Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor, and Rodrigo Santoro :rocker2::rocker2::rocker2: likely Oscar contender for screenplay!:eek:

Broken embraces (Los abrazos rotos), actually if I were in Spain I'd have already watched it :p IMO even an average Almodóvar is better than 99% of the films so :p

Nine should be spectacular too :)

--> Eva Green plays a swimming teacher/coach (Miss M) in an all girls school who starts a (sexual) relationship with one of her students. this is Jordan Scott's directorial debut (Ridley Scott's daughter.

i've seen I Love You Phillip Morris during Sundance and it has one unpleasant scene to watch, mainly because it's Jim Carrey doing it. i believe it won't be shown here in the US because there's no distributor who's willing to distribute it :tape:

Jim Carrey movie

Apparently the sex is rather explicit to the point distributors are not walking but running away from this film ! I don't mind a good NC-17 film, "Shortbus" was a movie that future actual sex (one of the actors performs oral sex on himself ) and that movie went all the way to the Oscars! Phillip Morris futures simulated anal sex, a jerk off scene, and a blowjob maybe...(?) nothing that I haven't seen on a mainstream film before. People also claim the language is just too pornographic ( what do they even mean by this? ) The Halloween remake from last year had some of the worse explicit language I have ever seen on a film :tape: That shit was worth rating NC-17 for foul language alone.

I'm going to see Phillip Morris no matter what!

nonetheless: RODRIGO SANTORO this alone is good enough reason to go see it! :hearts:

Boy Titanic drained all of his energies :o that is almost 12 years without directing a film! I keep hearing about this MEGA film, and for the longest time thought it was about the anime series. Is it really as expensive and extravagant as they say it is? If this movie fails he is finished.

Tree of life, from Malick, but this has been pushed to 2010

There are so many stories around "Tree of Life" I don't know what else to believe. Reports kept saying it was about dinosaurs lol then that it became two separate movies and Sean Penn was starring in one of them ! Terrence Malick is my favorite director, and nothing would make me so happy than to see this film :hearts:

I can't really stand him either, but I thought "Ethernal sunshine of a spotless mind" (or whatever it's called) was a really good film.

Strangely enough, he does look suited for a gay role, now that I think of it. Maybe the creepy, afeminate psycopath gay role, but it does suit him.

Jim Carrey's actually been in a gay-themed movie before. He was on a TV movie titled "Doing Time On Maple Drive" playing the alcoholic brother of the main character, a young in-the-closet man played by William McNamara. The movie was actually quite good, and Jim gave an excellent dramatic performance. The man can act, period.

Oh, and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is one of the movies you must see before you die. Both Jim and Kate Winslet are absolutely amazing.

but they went for some british 2008 horror flick called Eden Lake
we walked out after 30 seconds.

A friend of mine was there too, she left after 40 minutes as well and said half of the people already left by then...

well, i pay € 18,- a month for an unlimited card, which means i can go to the movies whenever i want, show that card and don't have to pay, which is cheap, cause movie tickets here are € 9.50 nowadays. so if you go twice a month, you got your money's worth

I got invited to a screening of a Doc, and a rally just before that, he is one of the producers.

I did notice he gets a bit uncomfortable, defensive would be the right word, when reporters and stupid people invade his personal space. Some of those people had it coming though :o In the middle of his speech someone screamed "Spicoli", totally irrelevant to the subject being discussed. However, he's more at easy once you gain his favor. From what I was able to see, take this with a grain of salt, the man suffers from a severe case of anxiety. The man obviously suffers from nerves. I did my best to get out of the way, especially with the annoying fans(and a very rude reporter) going all apeshit, and even then I was still elbowed and pushed aside. Thankfully I did get to talk to him backstage and he was very polite and respectful :)

Just saw the the Hurt Locker, it's an amazing film. Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty all give excellent performances, and it's one of the most suspenseful movies I've seen in a long time. Thankfully, it's one of the few Iraq war movies that isn't preachy and doesn't tell you what to think. I'd be very surprised if this wasn't on the list of 10 best picture nominees. Kathryn Bigelow should get a best director nod and Jeremy Renner should get nominated for best actor.

I doubt this movie will do well at the box office when it expands, but it's worth seeing in the theater so I would go see it while you can.

The anime series is being made into a film, by M. Night Shyamalan. It's called "The Last Airbender", coming out in 2010.

I want to watch "The Hangover", "Harry Potter", "The Ugly Truth", "Bandslam" and "The Twilight Saga: New Moon". Oh and "Public Enemies" too. That's all I can think of right now. There are probably more that I don't know of yet. ;)

Also Daybreakers with Ethan Hawke, In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.
W9roxtugaUo

The Road, with Viggo and Charlize Theron
A father and his son walk alone through burned country. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind and water. It is cold enough to crack stones, and, when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the warmer south, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing: just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless cannibalistic bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a rusting shopping cart of scavenged food--and each other.

And Finally Mr. Nobody, this looks like such an amazing movie starting Jared Leto and Diane Kruger.
Nemo Nobody leads an ordinary existence at his wife's side, Elise, and their 3 children until the day when reality skids and he wakes up as an old man in the year 2092. At 120, Mr. Nobody is both the oldest man in the world and the last mortal of a new mankind where nobody dies anymore. But that doesn't seem to interest or bother him very much. The only questions that preoccupy him in the present is whether he lived the right life for himself, loved the woman whom he was supposed to love, and had the children whom he was meant to have... now his purpose is to find the right answer.

I was actually thinking of going to the movies tonight or tomorrow night, I really want to see Brothers.:wavey:
I already saw Precious and some of the performances were really really good.

Is anyone else upset about Hollywood remaking Let The Right One In? Such a great movie and I'm sure they're going to ruin it, large groups of people will eat it up, and they won't ever care to watch the original which will undoubtedly be far superior. :o

I hadn't heard about a remake but I'm frustrated to hear that. I loved that movie because it was slightly quirky and Swedish. No doubt the subtle elements will be replaced by action scenes, over-dramatics and general hysteria in Americanisation of it. I can't help thinking the foreign language concept is purely what motivates some directors to remake a film in English. Perhaps the remake would resonate with a different audience though.

Well that is just too bad :awww: Who's directing the remake?

I just read James Franco is bringing his gay short film "Herbert White" to Sundance. :hearts:

From Wikipedia:

Let Me In is a 2010 horror film directed by Matt Reeves, based on the novel of the same name by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It is a remake of the 2008 Swedish film Let the Right One In. It tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who develops a friendship with a vampire child in a New Mexico town in the early 1980s

I was also disappointed by Precious, it was good but nothing mind-blowing. Yet, my friend told me the Brothers was amazing; I'll be curious to see what I think of it.

I saw Up in the Air. AMAZING. Everyone really put up commendable performances. Anna Kendrick totally blew me away. I've always loved her since seeing her in Camp, and I'm glad she's making the most of her talent. I hope this really puts her in a position to take on more challenging roles.

The hype about NINE makes me want to puke.

I thought Precious was good, not great for me. Possible because I've never been exposed to such abuse/people who have been abused. However, Mo'nique was spectacular. I was blown away by her performance.
