Live changes on daily basis of WTA TOP-800 You will always find here at great TBE WTA Ranks Update Thread (http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=236674), but because big competition and very tough fights for every of TOP10 places in womens tennis continue Year by Year, people here is always confused what will (maybe) happen with some players rankings next week, next month, at next slam... etc... So I decide to open this helpful thread which will follow in same time most interesting WTA rankings battles - for #1 spot (most intrigue), for TOP4 (very important b/c seeds at mandatory events), YEC TOP-8 (race to Year End Championship), TOP10 in-out contenders, Seeds candidates at next slam candidates (TOP32 in general) and about newest TOP100 potential debuts (or comeback girls)...

2009 Summary

Season Highest:
#1 Jelena Jankovic (1)
#1 Serena Williams (1)
#1 Dinara Safina (1)
---------------------------
#3 Elena Dementieva (3)
#5 Ana Ivanovic (1)
#5 Venus Williams (1)
#5 Vera Zvonareva (5)
#8 Svetlana Kuznetsova (2)
#8 Victoria Azarenka (8)
#9 Maria Sharapova (1)
#9 Nadia Petrova (3)
#10 Agnieszka Radwanska (9)
...etc...

#1 Changes:
till February 2 Jelena Jankovic (5 Weeks)
FEB 2 - APR 20 Serena Williams (12 Weeks)
since April 20 Dinara Safina (at least 4 weeks)

LATEST PROJECTIONS

Fight for #1 (with TOP4 Calculations):
- Dinara Safina will reach #1 on April 20 and become 19th #1 in WTA history. But she has to defend many points from last season claycourts.
- Serena Williams first good opportunity to back #1 spot again is after Madrid Mandatory b/c she defends 420 pts less than Safina from Berlin and Rome 2008.
- Elena Dementieva will hardly repeat Wimbledon 2008 SF success at grass, so for eventual chances for WTA#1 she must reach at least RG final with good "premier" results at clay.
- Jelena Jankovic needs to be dominant 2009 claycourt player which include RG title to be serious contender for #1 again. But between RG and USO she don't have very good results last season so she will be #1 contender at least till August.
- Venus Williams to reach #1 before Wimbledon needs much better 2009 clay season than Serena, similar like Safina and not way too much worse than Dementieva, Zvonareva or Jankovic. Good clay results of non-#1 contenders (Ivanovic. Kuznetsova, Azarenka...)
- Vera Zvonareva #1 race case till August is very similar with Jelena Jankovic, but she now has problem with injury wich maybe ruin her claycourt season this year.

No more #1 serious contenders before US Open, and even with RG title chances that Ivanovic, Kuznetsova, Azarenka... fill reach TOP4 before Wimbledon is very weak.

TOP32 Seeds Roland Garros 2009 contenders:
It's too early to give serious projections when differences is so small.

MOST INTERESTING TOP-100 Candidates:
Of potential debuts most interesting is Michelle Larcher De Brito case (also interesting and close are 1990+ girls Pervak, Rus, Voegele and Pivovarova).
There is several former TOP50 girls which is close for comeback to TOP100, but most intrigue case (till Maria drop from TOP100 :tape:) is 1970-born former WTA #4 Kimiko Date-Krumm.

That's what I thought too. Lena has 390 pts to defend this week, Venus has 0. If Venus wins the title she is #3, I believe.

I think Cp6uja added 220 pts to Lena's ranking by mistake.

I think Cp6uja added 220 pts to Lena's ranking by mistake.

As far as I know Elena will lose this week 390 - 220 (16th best tournament) = 170 points in case of a loss before semis

I very hurry when i open this thread today so instead use my own calculations for basis i just use TBE Ranking thread and not notice that he already added 16th best results to all players (which is correct from today's rankings point of view). And also I switch Wozniacki and Radwanska cases (Caro is only player which has some chances to reach TOP10 this week winning Charleston, not Aga).

You defend as many points as you earned 52 weeks ago.

Lena defends 390 pts. If she makes final she will earn 320 pts and have 7491 pts in the rankings. I don't know where Cp6uja got 7711 pts from.

Oh, I see now.

One correction: Venus has only played four tournaments this year (Aus Open, Dubai, Acapulco, and Miami), so her divisor for average points per tournament should be four not five.

" Elena Dementieva will hardly repeat Wimbledon 2008 SF success at grass,"

?

:weirdo:That projection/statement was very realistic because grass is traditionally Elena's worst surface and except that SF she just once reach Wimbledon QF. She played at Wimbledon every season since 1999 but best ranked player which she ever beat there was #18 (she has 0-6 record vs. TOP15 at Wimbledon)...

Elena can make (easily) SF in RG , QF in Wimbledon and we have exactly the same situationRG-SF and Wimbledon-QF is actually better for her chances to improve careers high ranking than if she repeat RG-QF & Wim-SF 2008 case because week after RG/09 her GS record will include her last season Wimby result and will be SF-SF-SF-SF. That's why I say that Elena needs "kick-ass" results at claycourts for next step, because when summer starts she must to defend Wimbledon and US Open semis (and OG Gold :p). Her start at Charleston seems very nice so far and also is important to notice that seems that Venus Williams will probably use again clay season just for warm-up for her Wimbledon-USO priority and Vera Zvonareva will not be threat during this clay season if her injury is danger like seems right now.

BTW I update OP with one interesting detail related to tomorrows Charleston SF match between Lena and Caro:

...
Fight to TOP-10
This week C.Wozniacki need Charleston title to overtake Petrova, but in general we have several candidates to join TOP10 club during European Red Clay season, but right now seems that only unrecovered Petrova #10 spot is in real danger. BTW if Caroline Wozniacki wins Charleston she will be first 1990+ Girl ever which reach TOP10, and if my numbers are correct, Caro will become 100th TOP10 player ever in WTA history!!!

I check again and must demand myself in this case: Next WTA TOP10 debutant will be 97th TOP-Tenner in WTA history, not 100th. I count twice three players (Monica Seles, Manuela Maleeva and Jelena Dokic) which represent two different countries and that is reason for this mistake :p

OP is updated... here is some interesting quotes (including Stuttgart POINT-TRACKER):
