View Full Version : Seriously, what is Serena doing in Marbella!

The girl can hardly move, I will be surprised if she wins any more than 4 games. This is so unlike her to play when she is carrying an injury in a tourny that is not so big.

Is it that bad???

Apr 8th, 2009, 05:22 PM
The only things I can think of are appearance bonuses and the idea that she would have "given up" the number one ranking by not attempting a run here. As we all know, Serena has a lot of pride, and I think it would be hard for her to move to number two knowing that she had a chance to hold onto the top spot. Whether or not playing in Marbella is smart for her health is another question.

It's quite bad. She's not moving at all, and if Zakopalova had just a bit more confidence on her serve it would be 6-0 right now.

I think players are not allowed to do walkovers anymore without getting suspended or something like that, I am not very sure. That might be the reason why Serena is where she is now and doing what is she doing. Tough I think they can retire in middle of match.

Klara is playing really good, and Serena is crap, just crap, I know clay isn't her best surface but this is just pathetic. It's understandeable that she wants the top ranking, but she is risking her body!

I can't understand how there's livestream for Marbella first round and I couldn't see Miami SF.

she is struggling just to hold serve! Perhaps she will warm up and move better but it does look to be on the cards tonight.

serenus_2k8
Apr 8th, 2009, 05:37 PM
But if she withdrew, wouldnt most posters say she never even intended to play in the first place?

Anyway, she is doing her best. One legged Ree isnt much of a match for any player on her weakest surface though.

But I mean she was able to play agianst Azarenka why isnt she against Zakopaloshit???She made it worse playing Azarenka.Serena has won 4 games. In one set. The same number she won in a whole match in the Miami final.

She's trying. She's fulfilling an obligation. She acting like Serena. She CAN play, so she's playing.

Yeah even if she pulls victory against Zakopalova (which I really doubt), she won't get past others. If no one else Jankovic would defeat her in straight sets. Ofc Serena players for No.1 ranking but it's useless if she cannot win whole thing.

Serena is basically hoping that her name will get to Zakopalova, but she wonīt get any further than Suarez Navarro, which will be what 20 points?
And it looks like Zakopalova is starting to choke.

It seems like Serena wouldn't be there playing with an injury if it were not for the appearance fee they've already given her. I don't think it has anything to do with her keeping the #1 ranking.

The injury obviously isn't serious or she wouldn't be playing at all. This is also her first match on clay this year.

~Eclipsed~
Apr 8th, 2009, 06:03 PM
Wow Zakopalova is pretty bad for not taking advantage of injurerena. Serena is hardly moving when a ball is a few feet away from her. You would think Klara would try to get balls back in play...

Suarez Navarro struggled against Ani... she wont beat Serena if both get there.

Many players had problems playing an not 100% Serena in the past. Hantuchova, anyone? :o Its still Serena.

Apr 8th, 2009, 06:14 PM
Serena's problem was a muscle injury..as opposed to a joint injury which might be more problematic. Its usually a day-to-day injury in other sports. Assuming she gets warmed up and doesn't strain it further (a distinct possibility particularly on clay) Serena should be able to play better as she gets loose. That appears to be what is happening in this game.

If you don't know anything, why insinuate otherwise? You don't get points for how you win, you just have to win. Serena gets enough attention being Serena, the #1 ranked woman in the world, WTF would she need to lie, exaggerate, etc about an injury?

In all honesty I think Serena threw the match up a break in the 3rd set, she started to play poorly again. It was like "How poor do I have to play that you will actually beat me, I donīt want to play another match".:lol:
