Tennis Tipping #25 – Khanti-Mansiysk

http://chessfish.com/pics/2007/World-Chess-Cup/Khanty-Mansiysk01.jpg

What is Tennis Tipping?

In the game, participants pick the winners of all main draw matches and are placed in a knock-out system. That means each participant plays a different participant and whoever predicted the winner of most matches correctly, moves on to the next round. The same applies for doubles, but you're in a team format and your scores are combined.

Note:
- In case of a tie, a tie-breaker will decide who moves on to the next round.
New tie-break method: http://www.tennisforum.com/showpost.php?p=13611765&postcount=1

- In case a player (i.e. the actual WTA Player) retires in a match, this match will not be counted. If players are replaced by a lucky loser after the start of Tennis Tipping, these matches will be cancelled.

How to Sign-Up:

Just post here that you would like to play. You can only play one tournament per week. Entries will be based on ranking. Everyone can commit.

More information: http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?p=14383865

How to send in picks:

Picks can be sent in as soon as the draws are ready. Remember, you pick a winner inevery match! Picks should be sent by PM, so that your opponent does not know your picks. Picks should be titled: [TT: Something, day #]. Picks can be sent in anytime until the beginning of play each day. If you're still in both singles & doubles, you use the same tips for both. For doubles, you still tip the WTA singles matches, not the doubles! No changes can be made after the play has started.

Good Luck, The Manager.

Khanti-Mansiysk Daily Mail

It was the most testing and most nerve wrecking day in TT history and it all happened in Khanti-Mansiysk. Fortunately it's over.

As some of TT's most remarkable stars headed to Siberia little did they know about the conditions in which they would be playing. An array of powerful, skilled players didn't even make it to the court as they sat on the sidelines without sorts to play. Some are even rumored to haven’t made the trip all the way to inner Russia. For those who played, though, eternal recognition shall be handed.

Match of the day featured 3rd seed In The Zone going toe-to-toe with unheralded Aniusia from Poland in what proved to be the most breathtaking match of the day. It went all the way into a 3rd set tiebreak before the American managed to put away the brave challenge from the Polish star. He would later team up with number 5 seed Dementieva_Dude to advance in doubles as well. Here's what he said: "Well it certainly was a tricky one and I was particularly annoyed everybody kept cheering for the underdog, I mean I was the world class star out there!" He certainly was. Dementieva_dude, who advanced after his opponent didn't show up, will meet James in the next round. This is certainly the match to watch!

Following shortly afterwards was the match between veterans Drake1980 and Sodapop. The contest went into a 3rd set but it was Sodapop who would eventually come up with the goods forcing number 8 seed Drake to head home earlier than expected as he also lost in doubles with No Mercy!!! as the Portuguese failed to wake up on time. Sodapop later said he fancied his chances at the title here.

But Drake wasn't the only seed to be sent packing as Shuai P. couldn't take Hantu's heat eventually crashing out in two tight sets. He would still advance in doubles while partnering Lunams. Hantu has been on a roll recently at the challenger level after reaching a final a week ago.

Other winners today include FiBer, crazylace01, Hankqq, Andiyan, Stunnashades former Gigi. and alternate Chrono who got in at the last minute to take the place of AdeyC.
Tournament director Ruisantos, left the tournament on a very short notice for a couple of days in the sun in the Caribbean leaving vice-director Luís Santos dealing with a crisis he wasn’t expecting. When Ruisantos finally returned everything was back on track and there are rumors that Rui will step down from his place as manager of this 50K tournament, much to the delight of the remaining players.

Khanti-Mansiysk Daily Mail
Thursday Wrap

After heavy rains wreaked havoc earlier in the week the organizers of this prestigous (!) tournament in Siberia were forced to have two rounds in just one day so they could end the tournament on schedule.

Top seed HenryMag asked to open up proceedings on centre court but he had better stayed in a little bit more as he was bundled out in the 2nd round at the hands of feisty alternate Chrono. After entering at the last minute to replace AdeyC, Chrono has now worked his way into the semifinals after also powering past Hungarian sensation libre83 on a mid-afternoon match. Chrono himself recognised later on how surprised he was of his achievement. He better come down to earth soon as he plays number 3 seed American powerhouse ITZ.

After going the distance on his first match, ITZ would again play two three-setters back-to-back in order to make it to the final four. First up was Dutch Andiyan who after battling it out strongly in the first two sets just let go at the final stages allowing ITZ to set up a clash with doubles partner Dementieva_Dude. The Canadian, who had narrowly escaped defeat against James in the second round could not handle the heat from his doubles partner and ended up losing in two tight sets. ITZ is now the highest seed standing, thus making him the favorite for the title. "You see, I beat everyone, everytime and I'm just at 65% right now!" the American said, much to the rolleying eyes of the passing players.

Lucky Aleksz is through to the semis but has only played one match so far after consecutive walkovers from his opponents. FiBer though was not enough to take advantage of the Hungarian's rust as he still managed to lose in three sets. Aleksz will next meet Hanqkk who breezed past his two opponents in straigh sets, firmly routing Sodapop in the second round and then blowing past Stunnalights, the number 2 seed, in the quarters.

Doubles dream team hankqq/young_gunner913 are in the semifinals and after the poor scheduling youngunner received yesterday he made sure the directors knew about his disapproval when he stepped on court wearing a "Who's making the OOP?" T-shirt. He got a standing ovation from the crowd.

Khanti-Mansiysk Daily Mail
Friday News

In a day of unsettling normality in the siberian city, seeds found it hard to get it through the day as underdogs blossomed under the clean Spring skies of Russia.

First up on centre court was Aleksz, the number 6 seed. After reaching the semis with just one match under his belt he seemed out of sorts against the feisty American Hanqkk losing handily in the third set. He seemed bitter after his defeat, storming past the journalists and the little kids that asked for autographs.

Hangkk on the other hand is enjoying some of his best tennis after also teaming up with fierce youngunner to blow past *Jean* and Stunnashades to book a ticket to the doubles final.

But the match of the day was yet to begin as ITZ prepared to take on unheralded alternate Chrono. After powering past the first set ITZ found it hard to adjust to the new game plan from his opponent and looked flat throughout the remaning sets. He managed to break two rackets and afterwards said he had "played like a 400+ ranked player at only 10%". Chrono was not fazed, though, and he now looks to capture the 50K trophy here. Frankly annoyed, ITZ would also lose in doubles, with Dementieva_Dude, to the european tandem of Andyian and Hantu. The later won the match on a third set super tie-break rather easily as ITZ continued to moan about his shortcomings in singles.

So this tournament has no website and i won't be able to find an oop probably.
You'll have to send for all the first round matches on Tuesday and only those matches played that day will be counted for the first round. The rest of the matches will be in a new OOP and you'll have to send them for the second round. the rest of the tournament will be easier to do.

Here's the deal: Ruisantos has lost internet connection and will not get it back for a few days. He's asking for a solution to this problem. I'm sure many picks have already been sent to him so I would like to have TT board members express their opinions on this subject. Rui has texted me saying that maybe we could cancel Tuesday and have a two-round day on Wednesday for both the 1st and 2nd rounds of the singles tournament. Once again I need the board members' opinions. :wavey:

So i talked to the rest of the board, except Aleksz, since he'd benefit from this and we decided not to let the contestants of the two matches undecided send picks again for their first round. So HenryMag and Aleksz receive WO's for the QF ;)

Edit: Henry doesn't get a WO since Chrono entered as an Alternate.
