I know Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario beat both of them to won Sydney in 1998.

Stefanie Graf did beat both of them however, she failed in Final against Lindsay Davenport at Sydney in 1999.

Martina Hingis beat both of them at Australian Open last year and of course, she lost the Final against Jennifer Capriati.

Any others? I would suprise if whoever beat both of them in same tournament in only Australia!!

Never mind that theory;

The Gold Coast usually has a pretty good field every year, esp. for a Tier III. When Venus won she beat Justine in the final, so she still had to beat a top ten player to win.

Vevnus' first win over Hingis was at Sydney: 3 thilling 3 setter where Venus startes crying due to cramps. And I think Venus and Serena were not at their physical best in those matches were they lost to ASV and Hingis, but Steffi seems to have beaten them both when they were both playing well. To me this is the only time they both lost back to back, but Steffi is the best ever so it is not too bad to lose to her. Steffi is also the last lady to beat Venus at Wimbleon other than Serena this year.

I don't think so.

Hingis

3 Australian Opens (from 6 consecutive finals)
4 Australian Open Doubles titles
3 Adidas Internationals (Sydney)
1 Hopman Cup

Capriati

2 Australian Opens (from 2 finals)

Sure, she's the reigning queen of the Australian Open, but Hingis owns Australia in terms of success there. Only Seles with her 4 Australian Opens come close.

Venus can play where she wants - its not her fault there are only 2 weeks before the slam, and 2 sisters wanting to have a warm up event before the GS.

I don't see many people beating both to win the title any time soon. It would have to be a big one as they only play the big ones together. You'll be lucky to get both of them in 1998 form at the same time as well.
