My comments

Maria Jose MARTINEZ SANCHEZ: There’re girls who win their 1rst trophy with all the innocence of teens…some others have to wait to realize one of every professional dream as winning a tournament. Maria Jose has been on the tour for more than 10 years now, and at 26 y.o she captured her 1rst crown on the WTA Tour at Bogota $220K. In final, she stemmed her emotion to take the best over 3rd seed./n°46 Dulko. This excellent result allows her to get closer from the top 50 now!

Patricia MAYR n°76 (+20): Patricia had a breakthrough year in 2008, but she was also criticized for having her progression because she was only playing ITF. She’s starting to prove the contrary. After a difficult Australian journey with disappointing results, she found back her favourite surface –clay- and reached her ever 1rst SF on the WTA Tour at Bogota $220K. She ousted 4th seed/n°76 Llagostera Vives en route before falling to 7th seed/n°66 and eventual winner Martinez Sanchez.

Urzula RADWANSKA n°106 (+13): Big jump for the young Poland rising star after reaching the 2nd rd as a qualifier at Dubai $2.0M. After qualifying, she produced a big surprise in the 1rst rd ousting her older sister 9th seed/n°10 Agnieszka in straight sets before retiring against n°104 Pin.

Ksenia PALKINA: Steady progression for Ksenia who had a pretty good ITF tourney in Australia after the AO. She’s up more than 11 places after finishing runner up at Mildura $25K losing to experienced 3rd seed/n°237 but former Top 70 Spears.

FASTER MOVEMENTS IN THE TOP 10, 20, 50, 100, 150 and 200:

Top 10:
Venus WILLIAMS n°5 (+1) and Ana IVANOVIC n°7 (+1):
Venus is back in the Top 5 for the 1rst time since August 2003! This is the place she deserves to be with no doubt, but she wasn’t playing enough to belong to that elite…and she has been playing a high level of tennis for several months now. Seeing her sister back at the Top may motivate her to come back too! Last week, she captured her 40th tournament on the WTA Tour at Dubai $2.0M ousting in form 4th seed/n°4 Dementieva and her sister Serena Top seed/n°1 before taking the best over surprising n°58 Razzano in final.
Former n°1 Ana is not in the same mood, she’s struggling to find her level back. However, she played decently at Dubai reaching the QF where she lost in a quality match vs Top seed/n°1 Serena Williams.

TOP 20:
Kaia KANEPI n°20 (+4): 1rst estonian to reach the Top 20, Kaia is now solidly settle in the Top 25 elite after reaching the SF at Dubai, her best performance in such a big tournament. With her deep ground strokes, she ran to the SF beating 3rd seed/n°3 Jankovic en route before losing to incredibly in form n°58 Razzano.

TOP 50:
Virginie RAZZANO n°41 (+17): There’s no question about Virginie’s game. She’s got powerful ground strokes from both sides but also sometimes a too risky game! However, she played the tennis of her dream for sure at Dubai last week. She finished runner up after beating the best players of the competition like 2nd seed/n°2 Safina and 5th seed/n°5 Zvonareva. Sadly a little back injury limited her game in the 2nd set of her final vs 6th seed/n°6 Venus Williams. In the 1rst set, she tied Venus game hitting as hard as she could but gave up in the 2nd.

TOP 100:
Patricia MAYR n°76 (+20)
see above

TOP 150:
Iona Raluca OLARU n°108 (+19): In October 2007, Iona Raluca reached her ever best ranking (n°55). But as many times, this is hard for young talent to resist to the pressure after a breakthrough. However, the confidence seems to come back step by step and last week she reached the QF at Bogota $220K ousting 8th seed/n°80 Dominguez Lino en route before falling to n°96 Mayr.

TOP 200:
Michaella KRAJICEK n°169 (+32): Even more than Iona Raluca, Michaella had a nightmarish 2008 season falling from n°30 (February 2008) at her best to n°219 at the end of the season! After dealing with tabloids about a love affair with her 34 y.o coach, she seems to be back on track training hard at Bolletieri Academy. As usual with Nick, the results come fast and she reached the QF as a qualifier at $220K Memphis. In the qualies, she took the best over 7th seed/n°143 Gullickson and 2nd seed/n°114. She kept rising her confidence in the MD beating 7th seed/n°62 Kudryavtseva en route before losing to Top seed/n°12 and eventual Runner up Wozniacki in a encouraging 3 sets match.

THAT’S ALL GUYS! HOPE YOU’LL ENJOY READING MY THREAD AND WAITING FOR YOUR COMMENTS! ;):lick:
