Kournikova & Davenport are lucky that I had classes and then tennis training until 4pm and have only just come back. I will allow them to play as they do deserve it as they rightfully earned their spot through their play this season :)

Nice opener here in Fiji between these two. CT order did not affect result - Wickmayer would have won in straights if she had won the first CT. Molik will be disappointed that she couldn't close Wickmayer out at 5-2 up in the decider, but the top seed dug deep and fought her way back with some fantastic shot-making

Kournikova had a terrible start here today, probably owing to her late arrival here in Fiji. However after she won a tight second set, she played full of confidence and cruised through the third set 6-2 to go 1-0 in her group. Ivanovic will look to rebound in her next match.

Great match from Kournikova today. She really knew what to do today to take it to Wickmayer, and she stuck to her gameplan and it paid dividends as she sends the #1 player crashing in straight sets. Kournikova improves to 2-0, while Wickmayer falls to 1-1 and will look to win her next match to have a good shot at the semis

Great match between these two. After Azarenka breezed through the first set, we saw 2 sets of the highest quality tennis. Davenport edged a tight second set to send it into a decider. The decider was a tense affair, staying on serve until 4-4 where Azarenka finally broke through after a 12-deuce game before serving it out. She keeps her hopes alive as she breaks even at 1-1 whilst Davenport falls to 0-2

If na li wins in 2 sets against azarenka = 2-1 ; 5-3 (62.5%)
If svazay loses in 2 sets to davenport = 2-1 ; 4-3 (57.1%)
If Azarenka wins in 2 sets against li = 2-1 ; 4-3 (57.1%)

Even if Szavay loses next round she is 2-1.
The winner of Na Li and Azarenka will also go to 2-1 while the loser goes 1-2.
Davenport is already 0-2 so can only go 1-2 at best.
Therefore Szavay has definitely qualified already for the semis :p

I just calculate my W-L and I am.............29-27 this season. :help: :tape:
Lot of drama happens at this Year End Championship, where the best players battle it out for the honour. Before Quebec’s tournament, Venus Williams was supposed to qualify for YEC, heading Kournikova by 5 points in the race. But the sexy Russian surprised showed her experience on Tour and fought her way back for the last spot to secure her appearance for the prestigious tournament, held in Fiji. The tournament hasn’t started on time this morning, due to a rain delay. Lindsay Davenport and Anna Kournikova weren’t arrived for the deadline this morning, due to shopping problems. Some players wanted them out of the competition and some, wanted to see these two battling out there. Hopefully for them, the rain delay was long, so they finally arrived on time.
''This is a pretty long story. I decided to go for some shopping downtown and I asked to some girls if they wanted to come with me and Lindsay was the only one. Anyway, we had lot of fun yesterday. After that, we decided to go clubbing together. She’s not accustomed to go out in a club with a popular girl as I am. She was really surprised many guys were talking to us. In fact, they were talking to me, but don’t tell her, she was so happy. Lindsay was really drunk yesterday night when we both quit the club to go in our man’s room. This morning, she didn’t want to quit her man. It took so long to convince her to comeback for the tournament. When she decided to go back, we were already late. That’s the reason...'' said Anna.
Despite having a bad W-L record, 29 wins to 27 losses, Kournikova qualified for the YEC.
''I am definitely happy to have reached the YEC once again this season. I think it’s the third time since I have joined the Tour. That’s a good thing for me. I have been through so many up and down this season. For sure, I am going to look positively at the next season, no matter what happens during this tournament. I had a lot of pressure on my shoulder this season and I couldn’t perform as well as I should have. I had a lot to defend this season and there were a bunch of new players and you know I just felt like I couldn’t compete with all these new girls. I’ve been asking for help and some advice and no one helped me. That was hard for me because I was really busy with things this season and I needed support, which I didn’t have. I thought so many times about retirement and when I was about to do so, I had a good week, like at the French Open, Us Open and even before my Stuttgart title. That kept telling me: ‘‘you’ve got your place Anna, hang in there.’’ So no matter what happens, I am just happy to finish the season on a good note. For sure, I would love to capture my first YEC title. That would be amazing and would mean so much to me.'' said Kournikova.
Her desire has been exhausted on the first two days of action in Fiji as the Russian won her first two matches against both Ana Ivanovic, 6th seed, on day one and Yanina Wickmayer, the world number one and 1st seed, on the second day. She will have to face Alicia Molik for her next match.
''Like I’ve just said some minutes ago, I arrived late for the beginning of the tournament. After 3 hours being in Fiji, I had to play my first match against Ivanovic. I make many errors but I was hitting great. I just needed to have that little more power into my shots. They were clean and deep enough. The first set was played in like....24minutes. I got more concentrated for the second set and that power came off out of my racquet. We both break each other at 2-2 and I’ve broke her serve for the second time of the match at 4-4, and served for the set. Then, I didn’t look backward and I played with more confidence so things were easier for me in the third set. Ana did played a great match but she seemed a little bit tired at the end of the match. Then, I had to face Yanina. I went up 4-1 in the first set but Yanina just showed me why she is the world number one right now as she levelled up the match at 4-4. She makes a double fault while serving to stay in the first set. With my experience on Tour, I know when I have to raise my game in crucial moment and I broke her serve to win the first set 6-4. Same story happened in the second set. It was really tight and it came down to some points at the end of the set. I am just really happy I’ve stepped up my game and didn’t choke in both sets. That’s a really good win for me and it gives a lot of confidence. I am now #1 in my group and I’ll make the semi-final. That’s really exciting. I’ll give everything I have against Alicia tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll have a better draw if I finish in first place of my group. We shall see...'' said Anna.

Shame that this had to be decided by a CT, but Kournikova already had the top spot in her group wrapped up, so no major impact aprat from a few extra ranking points. Disappointing YEC from Molik who will be looking to rebound early next season
Major 2nd set lapse here from Szavay, but the first and third sets were plain sailing for the #4 seed, who is on an 8 match win streak right now. Davenport ends up with a poor 0-3 record and will look to training hard over the off-season to make an early assault on Season 5. Szavay moves to aperfect 3-0 record and will square off against world #1 Wickmayer in the semis

This is an upset in terms of seedings, but I am hardly surprised. Na Li has had an awesome last few weeks on tour, whilst Azarenka has realy struggled for form. The defending champ books her spot in the semis againt Kournikova. With Azarenka's loss, Wickmayer is now guaranteed the year-end #1 ranking. Well done to her!

Well...I am sure if I don't change my points...I'll loose, so I should have sent new points.
And if I do change my points, I will loose, but if I had kept my points...I would have won. :p

But the f*ck is that Li changed her points...probably to beat mines.
But I went up 3-0 in my group...but I think I always loose to Li.
So, my final decision is.......................I'll make some adjustment. :) :p

At the end of the season, how do you reflect this year?
Well, I feel that I played better than I thought I could. You know, I wasn't really optimistic after my first matches, I really didn't think I would be at the position, where I'm currently residing.
Tell me about your first slam experience?
It was really a dream coming true. I was hoping to win some matches, but when I won my qualification match, I felt that I wouldn't even get past round 1.
Luckily enough I felt my game clicking in my straight sets win against Larcher de Brito, although I was lucky that she double faulted on breakpoint for 6-5. So from that point on, I took all possible risks to win the match by 7-5 in the second set.
How does it feel to win a slam?
It's like an emotion you can't control, It catches you completely off guard. You feel like floating on cloud 9, gosh, I don't even have enough words to describe it.
What you think of your YEC perfomance so far?
I think, I certainly was lucky that my opponents weren't in their groove, cause I really was hitting all balls out, by miles, you know, like madonna says : Miles away. (laughs)
Tomorrow you are playing Svazay, how do you rate your chances?
I'm really looking forward to that match, she is one of the only Yec players that I haven't beaten this year, so I would love to score my first win against her. But morely I'm hoping to bring a hard fought match with excelent points to please the crowd, because I haven't played well post-USOPEN.
We are both in form at the moment, so I think it will be a 3 setter, that can go any direction, depending on who can hit less errors and stay fitter at the end.
Kournikova has struggled against Na Li in the past, and would have lost to her again here if she had not implemented her new gameplan - wise choice! Kournikova maintains her perfect record at this year's YEC and is the first player to book her spot in the final. Na Li will be disappointed not to defend her title, but another great season from her!

Szavay came screaming out of the blocks today and never let up. She maintains her perfect record against Wickmayer and advances to the final. Wickmayer has had a phenomenal season, winning 2 Slams and ending the year as #1. Szavay will take on Kournikova for the title - both players have been in excellent form all week, going 3-0 in RR stage and now winning their semis. Who will win?

Congratulations to Agnes Szavay who wins her 4th title of the season. She really went on a late season surge, entering the Top 10 after the US Open before claiming titles in Tokyo, Quebec and now here in Fiji. She ends the season on a 10-match win streak and the #3 ranking. She will be a big contender for the #1 spot next season. Disappointment for Kournikova, but a great tournament for her which sees her back into the Top 5.
