Venus loves playing players like Elena who hit with some pace and power from the baseline. She has been on and off during her past two matches.

* Venus leads the overall H2H against Elena 7-2.

Lena hasn't been playing that well recently; very disappointing against Amelie, more than enough chances to take the first set yet her forehand deserted her and her two displays in Dubai have been modest performances. So she'll need to raise her game significantly just to be competitive with Venus. Lena's serve isn't firing at the moment and without a super serving display she doesn't stand a chance.

Having said all that, Venus hasn't played much tennis this season and the one close match she's had, she made a complete mess of, so that would seem to be Lena's best, and perhaps only, chance.

Venus' forehand looked sloppy today versus Cornet but I would say she's the favorite...prove me wrong Elena...:bounce:

You're wrong, dubai is worth more points then last year. It's 800 now while elena got 600 points for her win last year.

With a quarterfinal elena will get 200 points. So the maximum elena can lose is 400 points. BUT i can't remember if this premier5 event will go into effect of the rankings immediatly(you'd have to ask the boiled egg, i think he mentioned something about this earlier..), cause if it doesn't, elena's 17th result is around 280. Then the maximum amount of points she can lose here is 320. I think it's in immediate effect though, so with a loss elena will lose around 400 points. Basically, if elena wants top3 to come closer she needs to win this match. With a finalappearance she'll defend most of her points from last year.

Anyway, i expect elena to lose. Her form has cooled off A LOT, she isn't playing that well anymore. I hope she can somehow pull this around but i doubt she can win against venus. Venus in 2.

Last years Dubai points won't come off until NEXT WEEK due to the change in this years schedule. Doha points are coming off this week.

No doubt Elena may be tired, but she is playing brilliant tennis this year. She's playing like a real top player and likewise to Venus has ripped through the competition so far.

I love Lena but in a way I'll be happy if she loses. She needs to rest before she starts doing herself injuries. She's a workaholic.

I believe Vee has the ability to win in two easy sets, but something is telling me Elena won't be an easy match up at all. Its probably because the vast majority are saying that she will win in straights, and you know the last time she was one of the favourites in the tournaments she lost early :sad:.
