D-DAY FOR SAFINA
Enigmatic OWTT player Dinara Safina has received a simple ultimatum from her coaching staff - start giving 100% or find yourself a new coach. This comes on the back of a string of poor results for Safina which have seen her make just one final and barely get past a second round anywhere else. "It's not good enough" said her coach when quizzed at Stuttgart this week. "She is going through the motions, there is no killer instinct, no will to win".
There has been a notable increase in practice time this week and Safina looks to be rising to the challenge "He is right you know, since season 2 I have lost my way, I think after making 2 grand slam finals I thought it was going to be easy, I was wrong.". This attitude may make things augur well for the former number two who is a million miles from that ranking now. "If I could have just stayed tough in that first set against Serena last week we may not be having this conversation" said Safina of her 7-6(9)* 4-6 6-1 loss last tournament.

"All I ask is that she gives her maximum effort, I don't expect her to win every match, I just want her to give herself that opportunity" said her coach "I expect to see it start now, we have trained hard and we are ready to make our way back up the rankings"
Safina meets Sania Merza in round one here at Stuttgart, it'll be interesting to see how she fares.

After a title drought of almost 3 seasons, Anna Kournikova finally wins her third career title, which mut come as a huge relief. She did really well to dig deep at 3-5 in the second set to win it in straights. Kournikova's great week sees her retunr to the Top 10, at #9. Na Li moves back into the Top 5 as well, at #5.
