Because I'm bored and because this forum is normally so buzzing and active for a players forum and I don't want to lose that. :)

As we all know, she has received the qualifying WC, and although there was some talk of what ranking Jela used to enter Memphis and what not, I'm pretty sure she's going to be in the qualies draw when it (hopefully) comes out later on today. :D

Good luck in Memphis, Jela! Hope you can qualify! :rocker2:

Jela's Section:
(1)Jelena Dokic (AUS) v Yuliana Fedak (UKR)
Katie OŽBrien (GBR) v (5)Evgeniya Rodina (RUS)

I think Rodina could definitely be a tough opponent. I saw her in Brisbane, and she's no pushover. Jela can beat all 3 in her section though. Just a matter of whether she will.

Well...no pressure i guess she can afford to have a bad tournament here and there, after what she did in Australia :worship:....as long as she keeps it going at the big tournaments like Indian Wells and the slams

I expect Jela to have too much for Fedak, but I was just thinking before, that this is her first tournament outside of Australia in a fair amount of time. I hope she can adjust to the conditions so that they aren't the reason for any losses, but you never know.

Qualifier Spots:
Wozniacki  Please not!
Kudryavtseva - Has lost to Begu 2 & 1 this week and as she's seeded it could turn out to be the best draw!
Hradecka
Cohen-Aloro

Unless she draws Wozniacki, if she beats Panova/Chan tomorrow first, she stands a decent chance to win a match!

Please Jelena qualify :D

While this match was taking place I was sleeping. So I didn't really bother to catch any of the statistics or anything. Panova has talent though, so Jela must've stepped it up from yesterday's 1st set form. :) Anxiously await to see who will be Jela's first round opponent. Disagree totally, especially with the first two. Maybe it just seemed that way to you because Hingis and Myskina don't hit as hard, but Seles was really belting the ball too so it was sheer power both ways, on a faster court. I can't remeber these matches very clearly but, her match against Seles was not impressed me that much. She played well against Hingis in Montreal that is the one that I can remember, but in overall Dokic was the one of the biggest shot makers in those old days. I remeber one of her match which she beat Arantxa Sanchez from 6/3 down in the first set where she took the second set 7/6 and beat her.
I think even if it was on clay Dokic's best performance came in Rome 2001, where she beat Rita Kuti-Kis 6/3 6/3 in the third round and Zurich 2003 where she beat Clijsters with her amazing drive volleys.

We should make a thread about Jelena's old matches, pre meltdown.

Partly to stop spamming this thread, but mostly because ninanina19 just uploaded Dokic v Kournikova Fed Cup 2000 and I'm creaming myself.

Seles in Paris and Clijsters in Zurich are two of my favourite matches.
I never saw Dokic v Myskina in YEC. :sobbing:

Dokic vs Myskina is actually one of my favourites. It was very low quality in the beginning with no rallies and alot of errors but the level really picked up in the second set and there were outstanding rallies with Jelena just slamming shot after shot and Myskina bringing loads of balls back till Jelena finally spanked a drive volley winner. Very entertaining stuff.

I remember watching the Myskina match at YEC 02 but I can't remember being overly impressed by her power that day.

In contrast I remember the RG QF in 02 against Capriati and even though she lost, it was all Jelena with Capriati not really having a say. She played crazy that day, some awesome shots and some horrible errors. She definitely was playing the match on her terms!!!!

Anyone else remember this?

You have to know that Nastya lists that YEC match against Dokic as one of her worst matches ever!

I'd love to see it though

OMG it's been like 3 days since Jela played her last qualifying match.

Memphis scheduling is so wack.

Dokic vs. Myskina YEC 02 was a horrible match.:o

Dokic vs. Hingis Montreal 02 was fun, but Martina wasn't hitting with much pace so it was far too easy. That being said, Dokic was still pounding the ball.

Dokic vs. Seles GDF 02 was sensational! such high quality and massive hitting. The court played into the speed of the shots, but they were still huge.

Honorable mentions to the following matches in which Dokic showcased her big htting; Dokic vs. Martinez RG 02, Dokic vs. Capriati RG 02, Dokic vs. Capriati San Diego 02.

R1 Wozniacki df. Dokic 61 62

 Disappointing that she couldn't show more of a fight in the match. An improved Wozniacki from their meeting in Melbourne, by the sounds of things. And it was a long break between matches for Jela, the momentum she had from qualies was gone by the time this match came around. Oh well, at least she got through the qualifying okay. See you in Indian Wells, Jela! :)

What the hell went wrong?

Well, it's only a Tier III International Event and the points aren't great. Hopefully she performs in Indian Wells, that's where things count.
Who gives a fuck about Memphis, what a shitty tournament anyway. No stream? :o:o

Bye Memphis.

The media here are kind of in shock.

It's like "...and Caroline Wozniacki has defeated Jelena Dokic, er, 6-1 6-2 in, uh, 48 minutes. Yeah.. and in Davis Cup..." :speakles:

She was obviously feeling bad for Caro.

When's Indian Wells? It's still like 3 weeks away or something I thought. :bigcry:
Hopefully we get news of a WC soon, just to make sure she's still a tennis player after this loss.

People have been pressuring her far too much  Kind of not what I expected but what I was forced to think off, seeing everyone saying Jelena will beat a Top20 player that handily (again)

"I had pretty much three days off, so I had to wait a long time. I felt like I was out of the tournament already, waiting and waiting.''

Yeah, she might not want to go into a match with that attitude. It's going to happen. Espically when she gets into tournaments where it rains alot.
Other things that will probably happen this year...
1. She will draw the #1 ranked player in the first round again, boo
2. She will loose in a qualifying match
3. She will win qualifying matches
4. She will loose to people she shouldn't have
5. She will win against people that know one expects
6. She will play at times when she has a fever and is sick
7. At some point she will pull out with an injury (hopefully not a bad one)
8. She will get bad calls
9. She will get lucky breaks
10. Some weeks her ranking will drop
11. In the long run though, her ranking is just going to get better and better.
IT'S REALLY GREAT TO HAVE HER BACK!!!

After reading the post match comments, I feel really relieved. Seems Jelena played really bad.
