Marion Bartoli's streak ended Friday in Arthur Ashe Stadium. The 17-year-old phenom from France, the winner of the US Open junior girls' championship last year, qualified into the women's main draw in 2002, then proceeded to roll into the third round, where, along the way, she beat No. 25 seed Aranxta Sanchez-Vicario in the first round before coming up against Lindsay Davenport in the third and losing, 6-3, 6-1.

In a match that lasted only 47 minutes, the baseline hard hitters pitted their might against one another, getting into many rallies, much to the crowd's enjoyment. Davenport showed signs of frustration in the first set, as Bartoli struggled fiercely to not drop down a break. However, the French teenager was less successful in the second set, placing only one winner to Davenport's 18.

Davenport awaits the winner of the Kuznetsova-Farina Elia match in the round of 16.

This is Lindsay Davenport's 12th consecutive appearance at the US Open. She won her first Grand Slam title in 1998.

Davenport is playing just her fifth Tour event of 2002 after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on her right knee.

Davenport is the winner of 37 career singles titles, including three Grand Slams (1998 US Open, 1999 Wimbledon and 2000 Australian Open.

Bartoli had an accomplished junior career, winning the 2001 US Open junior girls' championship and being ranked No. 2 in the ITF World Junior Rankings in January 2002.

Bartoli upset Aranxta Sanchez-Vicario in the opening round of the main draw, then beat Rossana Neffa-De Los Rios in the second round, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
