Welcome to Flushing Meadows, New York, for the season's final Grand Slam. 14 of the 15 Slams played so far on OWTT have had different winners :eek: - will we have another new Grand Slam winner here in New York? With not long to go until the Year End Championships, this tournament will be crucial in players' campaigns for the season-ending Top 8. Let's check out the big guns here in New York....

#4 Lindsay Davenport – Davenport has just won the title in New Haven so is in great form coming in. She definitely has the game to go all the way here in New York and would love to add to her Australian Open title from last season.


#7 Na Li - she has had a great few weeks on tour, having an awesome hard court swing, finishing #1 in the USO Series thanks to winning Montreal, a SF in Stanford and a QF in Los Angeles.


#8 Michelle Larcher de Brito – good few weeks for the young Portuguese player, reaching back to back finals in Stanford and Los Angeles, wrapping up the #2 spot in the USO Series.


#10 Yanina Wickmayer - finished up at #3 in the USO Series Race. Won the title in Los Angeles and had a QF run in New Haven. She is playing with huge confidence right now.

#1 Victoria Azarenka - She has had a phenomenal season so far, although her hard court swing has been a little disappointing by her standards, with just a SF result in Montreal. However, the #1 has all the weapons to take the title here.

#16 Patty Schnyder - RU finish in Montreal, as well as a QF in Stanford. She won a couple of titles earlier in the season and could cause an upset here.


#17 Lucie Safarova – SF in New Haven and QF finishes in Los Angeles and Montreal. She will be looking to peak here at Flushing Meadows.

#3 Alicia Molik – Molik had QF finishes in Stanford and New Haven, but seems to be lacking in confidence a little right now. If can regain her confidence she has the game to go all the way here.


#5 Maria Sharapova – Sharapova is defending champion so will be fired up on her return to Flushing Meadows. She reached QF in her last 2 events and will be hoping to peak here.


#11 Agnes Szavay – Szavay has had an impressive season and is coming off a final in New Haven. She has the potential but will need to keep a cool head to avoid meltdown.


#20 Nicole Vaidisova – Vaidisova reached SF in Montreal and QF in Stanford. She has won a Slam before so she knows what it takes. She needs to be mentally tougher though when it gets deep into a third set as that often lets her down.


#29 Anna Chakvetadze- she won Stanford but then seemed to fade away a little. If she can find her Stanford form she could be one to watch here.

Congrats to Wickmayer who picks up her second Slam of the season, after winning the Aussie Open right at the start of the season. She had luck on her side against Serena Williams in her first match, but didn;t look back after that, defeating the #1, #3 and #4 players en route to the title. Molik had her chances up 3-0 in the decider, but her head seemed to go as she could see the finsih line. Wickmayer, with her USO Series bonus, picks up a cool 1050 points, and rockets up to #2 in the rankings - well done!
