Japanese legend Kimiko Date Krumm joins the star studded field at Pattaya tennis


This year's PTT Pattaya Open, which already has the distinction of serving up the best entry list ever, has attracted one of Asia's tennis icons, Kimiko Date Krumm to the beachside venue.

The tremendously popular Japanese player is the most successful Asian woman tennis player ever, she reached her zenith in 1995 when she was ranked No 4 in the world and has to date 7 WTA Tour titles to her name. After a 10 year absence from tennis, she returned to competitive tennis in 2008 winning 5 titles on the ITF circuit. This year she has returned to the WTA Tour and has made waves in Australia where she won through 3 rounds of qualifying to enter the main draw of the Australian Open. Her current WTA ranking is 184.

Also joining the tournament is the 2006 title holder, Shahar Peer of Israel who is currently ranked no 42 in the world. Peer won her first ever WTA Tour title in Pattaya and has always performed well on her previous outings at the beachside venue. She currently has 3
WTA Tour career singles titles and 3 doubles titles to her name.

Date and Peer join a stunning line-up of 5 top 20 stars in Pattaya, which includes No 7 Vera Zvonereva, No 11 Nadia Petrova, No 12 Caroline Wozniacki, No 14 Victoria Azarenka and No 19 Dominika Cibulkova.
