Note that the year hasn't ended yet and that this doesn't include earnings from sponsors etc.

ARANTXA SANCHEZ-VICARIO (no.20 on the earnings list)

2002 singles: $160,192
2002 doubles + mixed: $151,787 + $10,191
2002 TOTAL: $322,170

She will probably end up the year with $500,000 + additional money from sponsors. Normal people do not even earn this in 10 years if not more. Why should she retire? Even though she's not winning a lot, this is still by far the best job she can ever find. Heck, I struggle every day to make a couple of $ and here she is doing something she loves and getting rich off of it. I wouldn't retire either if I were Aranxta.

i think one of the main reasons she doesnt/isnt/hasnt retired is because she would be bored and wouldnt know what to do with herself after tennis. this is all shes ever known

She's probably just enjoying herself too much to give it up.

She has a very well paid job with excellent travel opportunities. Who would quit that kind of work?

She's won 3 doubles titles this summer alone. Keep playing and keep getting paid Arantxa! A lot of people still appreciate seeing you.
