View Full Version : Seles vs Schwartz: Your thoughts?

Aug 28th, 2002, 04:14 AM
I think this could be a very tough match for Monica because Schwartz hits the ball very hard from everywhere (serve, forehand, backhand). Schwartz has a 1-0 record against Venus, 1-0 against Dokic, she is very dangerous.

Her Head-to-head with Monica is 1-1. Monica won at the 1998 French and Schwartz won this year at Fed Cup (with all the Capriati controversy).

Normally I wouldn't be worried, if Monica is playing at her best she would win easily. But the thing is she hasn't played a lot recently so I'm not sure what her form is. I just hope that she gets through this match, hopefully in straight sets. She needs to save her energy for the later rounds. Good luck Monica!

Monica has some unfinished business to take care of. Quickly.

My question is, if Monica gets up the early break, will she go for double bagel, or coast on in to a 6-3, 6-4?

Monica for sure.

Hello? Hello?

Doesn't anyone else remember Roland Garros?
Babsi took out Venus. She's a "big event"
type player. I think Monica should be kind of

6-1,6-2......go seles

No doubt it is going to be tough but I think Seles can do it. She is going to be more prepared and she is going to be a lot more motivated and hyped to win after what happened at Fed Cup. I'll say Monica 7-5 6-3.

Greenout, you're right but she beat Venus, Monica, Meghann, Jelena, etc... was on clay!!

This could be different story...

I agree with AlexSydney! First of all Babsi is a clay - player and she is a FedCup player. That doesn't have to mean that she isn't dangerous. She showed that she's able to beat Seles on hard court.... I'd say Monica in three!

I'm nervous but because it's hardcourt not clay I think Monica can handle her

This is a tough match for Monica. She needs to start well and keep Schwartz out of the match. Schwartz works best on inspiration and when it's a close battle. Monica can't afford to let it get close.

Monica in three, im pretty sure that a result 0f 61 62 is ridicoulus

I think 6-3 6-2. Go Monica!

tough match, yes, but I do think the surface makes a difference, Schwartz has not had such good results on faster courts. (Although why not I don't really understand.. looks like she has compact swings, a lot of power??)

I was there at their last meeting (Fed Cup). Contrary to popular belief, Barbara was really "on". Monica, on the other hand, (reportedly distracted by the faldooral that Cappy created) made too many UE's...and while she didn't play horridly, was not herself.

Furthermore, Monica rarely loses to lower-ranked players more than once. Babsi had her "once". That, as I see it, is that.

Monica in two.
