Well done, Ana! :D Terrible start though and she needed to face the wall to find her range. Played well to save MPs, get the set and at the start of the 3rd.
That ball-toss however... Worst I've ever seen in a pro-player. Just embarrassing. :o It got better as the match went on and it might be the sort of match she would want before AO building her confidence.
Poor Roberta...

Linesmen need fired. :wavey:

Ana I don't know what to say :sobbing: qualifer curse nearly strikes again. Very happy she pulled it out saving 2 mps. :) Brisbane also really needs hawkeye some really dodgy line calls.

Oh and yes that ball toss. :help:

It's so weird not having hawkeye in Brisbane. You would think a brand new venue would have it. :o

Ana :yeah: I just hope she gets through this event with some more wins because it's clear she is still struggling with her confidence. She desperately needs it back soon.

They really are. Some of the calls have been horrible.
Am I imagining or they dont always have enough either.
They need hawkeye I think, although there would be alot of challenges

and our linespeople are sucking pretty bad this week :confused:I don't know who was worse them or our Polish umpire Gabriela Załoga... seriously, she's almost as bad as Asderaki, she doesn't have any balls to overrule even the most obvious mistakes. :tape: Both Ana & Roberta faced some ridiculously bad calls. :tape:

i guess the lines calls havent been the best- but both players have had to deal with it. they really need hawkeye here - its supposed to be a technologically advanced event - this sort of match -scrappy and saving MPs can be a good thing leading into AO

i don't think a match like that helps anas confidence at all, if anything these matches shake her into thinking i have no clue what is going to happen with my tennis when i step on court, which isnt a good feeling.

at least she won but signs aren't good that shes ready to defend oz open finalist points.

at least she won but signs aren't good that shes ready to defend oz open finalist points.Coming back from a set and a break down plus saving MPs and getting her timing and balltoss finally right (minus one game in the 3rd) should boost her confidence. She had no rhythm whatsoever for the set and 3/4 of the 2nd until she saved those MPs and hit a purple patch. Must've felt well for her, she sure looked like she enjoyed it. :fistpump::ajde::cmon::dawaj:

being taken to mp by vinci will not boost her confidence, she will be happy she won but i bet a very nervous ivanovic starts her next match as she really has no clue whats coming.

Agree about the linespeople, they almost cost Amelie her match earlier as she hit a forehand winner on the line but they called it out.

This may be the match that Ana needs to play like she did in the first half last year.

Anyway at the start of a season, all what matters is winning matches to have a chance at playing more. :p Indeed it's all about winning ugly here. Serve looked better in the 3rd set but far from being perfect yeah, she will have to work on this. Way too irregular! Her slice down the T is just atrocious to watch. I was not really convinced by her net approaches either ; she was most of the time only praying for a mistake of Roberta.

Congrats to Vinci, she almost made it!

All Ana is doing right now is winning matches, because her game still isnt there. However winning these tight matches will give her a boost and her form could propell from here:)

Vinci though:eek: Taking Ana to the brink- well done! She is a beautiful player to watch.

Eh she was so so, ball toss was awful in the first 2 sets. And well Amelie didn't have the easiest of matches either so it could go either way tomorrow, hard to pick a winner.

momo has got a great chance tonight of beating ana, shes just what ana wont want right now. she will run like mad get a lot of balls in play, slice a lot, sneak to net. im really looking foreward to it as it will be a fun contrast of styles and i can see it going either way.
