And the beginning of final set, I was thinking that Sesil would win the battle:o
Anyway, these matches definitely helped her find some confidence.

Hey!! It has been a great tournament for Sesil. If at the start of the someone said Sesil would qualify win a match in the main draw and lose in the 2nd round 7-5 in the third set to Govorstsova I don't think too many posters would have believed it. It would have been brilliant if Sesil could have won today but looking at the bigger picture the week could prove to be the perfect launchpad for Sesil to make 2009 a very special year and that is what matters most.

Congrats on a super week Sesil. :yeah:

Karatantcheva must be delighted, by the amount of supportive fans, even though, she cheated and lied to them:bolt:

Perhaps it is because any sane person is able to cut a 15/16 year old some slack and give her the benefit of the doubt in the long term. At that age, do you really think that she was making the decisions in her career? Have a little empathy, the world is not a place of black and white.

Anyway, shame for Sesil, but great tournament and hopefully we will see her comeback continue at this level in 2009.

Sesil may be settling into a routine where she can win or lose vs. anyone outside the Top 50 on any given day. I presume that if she stays healthy she'll make the Top 100 by the end of clay season, since its her best surface, but eventually plateau somewhere in the 30's like her career best in 2005. (A lot of that depends on how others of similar ability are playing.)

A note to those who may think (as someone posted a couple of weeks ago) that the 2 year suspension was "too harsh". Putting aside my personal dislike for her, I agree. But the ITF had zero flexibility on that. They're a member of WADA, and its code allows no flexibility based on age, etc. And if they defied WADA, the IOC would have had to remove tennis from the Olympics. (The WTA and ATP both delegate authority on drug related to the ITF.)

My condolences to the Bulgarians here... because Tsvet:angel: lost her match. :( (Good thing the Wild Child did too, because after that ultra-long match, Errani might have been too tired to BTB in the QF round.) :woohoo:

Govortsova vs Azarenka semi! :rocker2:
