Just heard it on FoxSports news, officially the team is.

Samantha Stosur
Casey Dellacqua
Rennae Stubbs
Jelena Dokic

First time she's played Fed Cup for Australia since 2000, I think.

Good choice, probably the only one really.

She should be the second singles player, because Casey isn't really playing that well at the Hopman Cup.

I guess we should wait to see their results during the rest of the summer. But it is a pretty strong team and there in no excuses now and they should definitely move up.

This will do Jelena good. She'll be hitting with the other girls and might even be persuaded to continue playing a consistent schedule. ;)

That's a pretty good team!

I highly doubt that Jelena would play in a doubles tie. It just doesn't seem likely when Stosur, Stubbs and even Dellacqua are in there. I hope she gets to play a match or two, but even just hitting with the girls and being in the team is great. :)

Almost CERTAIN she will. Because it's a round robin, they'll share the load. If you assume Sam and Case (though Case is having a horror run at Hopman Cup....) play singles, then Jelena is almost certain to play in at least a dead doubles or two. :)

Love the opening line from an abc news article about the team......

One-time defector Jelena Dokic has been named in Australia's Fed Cup squad, which has been labelled one of the strongest teams in recent years.

Australia's highest ranked woman Sam Stosur, who was ruled out last year due to illness, will lead the team, which also includes Casey Dellacqua and Rennae Stubbs.

Stubbs continues her record run in the Fed Cup team with her 15th consecutive showing in the annual international women's tournament.

The 2009 round robin competition will be held from February 4-7.

Fed Cup director David Taylor, announcing the squad during a break in competition at the Brisbane International on Tuesday, said the team was one of the strongest assembled.

"We probably haven't had a lot of luck on our side with injuries - we had about four girls finish in the top 80 last year and we had one available to play," he said.

"Pratty (Nicole Pratt) retired, Alicia (Molik) got injured, Sam (Stosur) injured - not injured but out with illness - so this year there's a real sense of excitement."

He said Dokic's recent performances had swayed the last vote in her favour.

Western Australian teenager Jessica Moore and Slovak-born Australian Jarmila Gajdosova, who is waiting on citizenship, were unlucky to miss out, he said. *will these girls be hitting partners?* (hope so)

Perth's State Tennis Centre will host the event - with Australia set to compete against Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Korea, New Zealand, Thailand and Uzbekistan.

Oh. :o I didn't even think about the format at all. What you're saying does make sense though. :)

Stosur/Stubbs doubles
stosur and dokic singles

unless dellacqua finds some form fast :)

wow this is a very strong team! im proud of dokic for this committment and it is very smart of her - more matches, practice sets vs some great aussie players and team environment might do her well :)

the thing is the girls who beat Casey have been playing quality tennis this week...still, Jelena might be able to perform better than Casey at Aus Open ...who knows..but go Jelena

I love Dokic to pieces but I think she is only making herself available to Fed Cup and Tennis Australia considering their history, how much they've given to her and the little she has given back.

Hopefully with this team Australia won't have any trouble getting back into World Group II this year.

And I also hope that Jelena commits herself to the team next year as well. Australia desperately needs to get back into the World Group!

good to see. I think people are being quite harsh on Dellacqua. She served for the match against Lisicki (who has a lot of talent) and was competitive against Cibulkova (a top 20 player). Hardly a disaster so far.

having said that Dokic I've always maintained Australian tennis desperately needed Dokic back in the fold given she's the only player we've got who has any chance of playing at the highest level ie top 20. I expect Stosur and Dellacqua to finish the year in the top 40 but I'm not sure how much higher they'll go.

Actually having watched Jarmila play yesterday it's clear to be she's got a top 20 game if she can get it under control.

She's taking the comeback attempt more seriously this year, I think. It's nice to see and I hope she sustains it. :hearts:
