Kim and Elke told the media this afternoon at 13.35 h local time.
He died this afternoon, a year after he got diagnosed with long cancer, in January 2008. After which he decided to not get any treatment. They told he went peacefully, with the people he loves around him. He was last seen in public last June, when Elke got married.

Kimmie and Elke, and everyone else, my deepest condolences.

He had all of his family around him when he died.

I'll remember him for all the support he gave Kim when she was playing, and also the fact that he was an international footballer of some note,he played for Belgium in 2 World Cups.

this thread isn't about you and the sick stories you come up with to generate attention

he had every right not to want treatment
chemo can weaken someone a lot, and he chose not to let that happen
1 or2 extra months of living would not way up to the pain he'd had to go through if he did get treatment

now go ahead and make up some more stories ... but don't come here and critisize a dead man's decision

I didn't generate attention, I just raised awareness to the fact, he could have lived for much longer if he tried, life is unpredictable.

I didn't critize at all, I just stated he could have tried, just for his daughters, you know how much they both loved him, he is really there everything. Chemo does weaken a person but the baxters help you afterwards.

I think any days you have left with your family weighs up to any sort of pain you might encounter, at least for me, and many others.

Well quality of life with your family with all secondary effects chemotherapy comes with usually is worse than with treatment than without especially if cancer is at an advanced stage. So I have no trouble imagining he prefered giving up on treatment to enjoy the few months/weeks he had left.

I can agree to that, but why not try? You can always quit if you feel it's not working or ... Anyway it was their decission, I couldn't make the same decission if it was final.

How do you know he didn't try? Lei already fought skin cancer some 25-27 years ago. Sadly I believe it was this cancer that returned this time as Lung Cancer (do correct me if I am wrong). Do you know how advanced the cancer was? I don't. Do you know what his initial decisions were when he found out about the Lung Cancer regarding his treatment? I don't. Noone but the family and his Doctors know that.

Lei fought. He survived longer than he was told he would (according to papers.....). He got to see, Jada born, Elke get married and Jada's first Christmas.

Correct it was Lei and the family's decision. I don't know them but surely he discussed it with his loved ones.

I'm with Yasmine and Mandy this isn't about you. Don't judge or criticise his decisions - only Lei knew what was right for him and his family...Just as you and your family know what is best for you. Every situation is different.

RIP Lei.

All the best to Kim, Elke, Brian, Jelle and the Clijsters family.
