View Full Version : Somay Ku: A Uganda Tennis Story on Tennis Channel

The most interesting thing this channel will do all year. It's a documentary.

Patrick Olobo, Uganda's top-ranked tennis player, was four when LRA rebels decimated his family's quiet life in Northern Uganda, forcing them to abandon their ancestral land.

The film accompanies Patrick during his last weeks in Uganda and first 2 years in the US, as his new life unfolds in unforeseen ways. The adjustment is not easy, and his tennis dream is threatened by the pressures of his new life, contingent upon sponsors and their expectations, and transformed by American culture. A young man straddling two disparate worlds, obstacles arise that put his status in the U.S. at risk. Throughout, Patrick is pressured by financial responsibilities to his family in Uganda, and a growing cultural divide with his Ugandan girlfriend.

I saw it. It was very interesting but in a way sad. No one seemed to sure that he would have a future on the tour.
