Why is it odd?

When else would she play an international? It is a hardcourt event -- not clay.

I was thinking that Aga might play here... can't see any other week she could play an International Event in the 1st half of the season

She can't play Birmingham if she playes in Monterrey, as she can play one international event before Wimbledon and one after :/ Plus i think that a higher ranked player could have commited to play in Birmingham (Sharapova or Jankovic etc.) and Aga has, so called, "lower priority" than them.

It makes sense for Aga to play here

She has a week off the week before
Mexico is very close to California so she doesn't have to travel too much to go to IW the following week
Monterrey is also on HC

If I were a tennis player not ranked in the top 10, I would definitely play here. It is relatively close to Indian Wells (with a Wednesday start there -- and if you are a Top 32 seed, you start Friday or Saturday, so basically a week off).

I hope this is a fun event, the field looks to be shaping up.

Organizer said a few days ago, that they would offer a Main Draw Wild Card to Melissa Torres, Daniela Munoz and Erika Clark would get a Doubles Main Draw WC, and Alejandra Granillo and Daniela Munoz a Singles Qualy WC.

About the Singles MD WCs- I think that also Ula Radwańska might get one of them if she decides to play here and if she doesn't get to the MD directly with her own ranking. I can see an agreement between the tournament and the Radwańska family, that if Aga commits to play in Monterrey, the tournament organisers will give Ula a WC to MD. But ofc these are only my assumptions :)

It is a mistake on the website, if you go to the news section on that same website, they have the letter announcing that Melissa got a MDWC and that Granillo and Muñoz QWCs.
