ROLAND GARROS

http://www.oeilsurleweb.fr/images/Sport/Tennis/Roland%20Garros/Roland%20Garros.jpg

Welcome to Roland Garros for the season's second Grand Slam. Golovin is defending champion here, and she will have a huge struggle on her hands to defend her title, after her recent on-court struggles, as well as the ever-increasing depth on the OWTT Tour. The players to watch out for will all be unseeded:- Molik, Harkleroad and Kirilenko; whilst the top players will be looking to assert themselves. 9 Slams on OWTT so far, and 9 different winners!! Will anyone be able to win Slam #2 here?

(1) S.Williams def. Harkleroad
2-6 7-6(7) 6-0

Great win here for Serena, over the Berlin and Strasbourg champion. It looked like it would be an easy win for Harkleroad at 6-2 4-1, but Serena really dug deep and turned thing around, taking that second set on a thirling tie-break, saving 2 match points, before steamrolling Ash in the third. Sweet revenge for Serena who lost to Harkleroad earlier in the season at the Aussie, as well as last week in Strasbourg.

Azarenka def. (10) Davenport
6-3 5-7 6-3

Great match here between these two. Davenport looked down and out at a set and 5-2 down, but she managed to come up with some inspired tennis to fight back and force a decider. However, Azarenka was the fresher of the pair in the decider, and came through strongly in the end to take out the Aussie Open champion and advance to the semis for the first time in her career - well done!

Molik def. (12) Kuznetsova
0-6 6-0 6-2

Molik's impressive season continues as she recovers from an awful start to take out Kuznetsova. Molik looks confident and is dangerous when she goes deep. Still a good tournament for Kuzy, but she needs to beef it up a little to stay with the top guns and win titles.

Hard luck that this match came down to CT order - sorry Gisela! Still nice that Dulko won a couple of matches this week, after recent struggles. If Dulko had won the decisive CT, the semi and final would have also come down to CTs. However, as it stands, Na Li moves on to the semis, continuing her magnificent season - well done!

Great match here between these two. Azarenka got off to a great start beforee Serena started to find her rhythm. Azarenka went toe-to-toe with Serena in the second set, but it was Serena who held her nerve on the big points to take it to a decider. Azarenka still hung tough, but it wasn't enough, as Serena stepped it up to book her place in the final. Still a great tournament for Azarenka though.

Na Li's great run continues here as she takes out the red hot Molik to advance to the final. Unfortunately, the CT in the third set was decisive - Molik would have however lost the final. Still a great tournament for her. Na Li advances to take on World #1 Serena - can she topple the top pyer to win her first Slam?

Congratulations to Serena Williams, who becomes OWTT's first muliple Grand Slam champion, adding to her US Open title from last season :worship: She has struggled for form this season, and even contemplated retirement, but this should keep the fire burning for Serena! She played great tennis all week to take out some great players, and avenges her last 2 losses to Na Li here today. Brilliant effort from Na Li, but Serena was one match too far for her today.

Queen Of Clay : Serena Williams

http://pagesperso-orange.fr/grand_chelem_tennis/serena%20RG2002.jpg
Serena Williams showed impressive tennis display and became the first multiple Slam winner on OWTT

Serena Williams has had what we can call her worst beginning of the year in all of her three seasons on OWTT. Even though she had no real sucess in her first season, she wasn't expected to have so it was much less tough on moral. Now that she has become the best player ever on OWTT as she holds almost all records on Tour, everybody wants to beat her, when a girl comes on court against her, Serena has to play her best because she's not gonna get any special treatment. She came in this week, hoping all the physical work would pay off, but after what's happened since the beginning of the season, nobody knew what would happen, even Serena.

http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s348/Canuck_Blog/Serena.jpg?t=1226164001

First Round : Showing what tennis is to an attention whore and one or two title wonder.

Don't know if you got who this is before I say it, but I'm talking about Iroda Sluttyaganova. The girl had had some success during a couple of weeks and used the bit of attention she had to bitch the best players in the world, including Serena Williams. Before the match Serena said "When I learned what she said about me, I got furious and said a lot of harsh things to medias... and I have no regret for saying the truth about this slut." Serena was really arrogant in these declarations, but she couldn't translate all of her furiousness into something positive on court and quickly went down 0-6, 2-5 and she had to save multiple match point to bring the match to a second set tie break... in which one she had to save MPs too, but even though Serena was playing crap tennis, we could see the fire in her eyes and she was definitely not gonna go down this way. After Serena won the tie break 8-6, she got much more relaxed and destroyed her opponent hitting winners from anywhere on the court. Reena bagelled her at her turn to win the match 0-6 7-6(6) 6-0. Afterwards, Mrs. Williams said "I played like crap in these first two sets, I made it much too easy for her, I'm suprised she found a way to get a title, her game is total bullshit. This was not my best match, but I still feel well, I won, it's all that matters presently"

http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s348/Canuck_Blog/Serena-1.jpg

Second Round : Beating your best friend in front of her home crowd.

Serena Williams usually has no pity for her opponents, excluding Venus, but this time, Serena felt the situation was pretty weird facing Tatiana Golovin. She said "We were talking together, not a long time ago, doing our daily bitching of the girls on Tour and we came on the subject of Grand Slams and she told me how much she dreamt of winning on her home soil, it will be tough to play her this week, we didn't expect such a draw." We still had to move on and the match was played, yet again Serena got off to a terrible start, she seemed like frozen in front of this loud crowd cheering for Golovin, she got a bagel of entrance. Serena still is the number 1 and knows how to turn things around, she managed to hit a couple of winners and find some good sensations, from there we had one of the most interesting match of the tournaments, girls were really emotional on court and badly wanted this match. We went to 5-5 in the second set, Tatiana completely melt down on serve, double faults and short second serves, it made it easier for Serena Williams to roll away with the set, 7-5. The exact same scenario happened in the final set, Tatiana Golovin must not have been ready yet to accomplish what she's always dreamt of, her nerves totally broke down and she even had to wash her tears away more than once in the final game of the match. After the win Serena said, "It was a really hard match, I didn't want to make her sad, but I tried to stay in my bubble and not look to much at her cause I knew she would be heart broken. At the net after I just won, I told her she had nothing to be ashamed of, she played a great match. I'm sure she will quickly bounce back."

http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s348/Canuck_Blog/Serena-2.jpg

Quarter Final : Avenging tough losses.

Ashley Harkleroad, one of Serena's fellow American tennis players, has given trouble to Serena since the beginning of the year. This girl was the one who eliminated her at the Australian Open, Serena had no intention of losing twice in a row to the same player in GS situation. Harkleroad had also just beat her the week before the French Open and came in confident against a fired up Serena Williams. World number 1 said before the match, "I have pride and I'm not gonna lose to her again. I think she uses sportmanship and always takes like 10 minute between each point when she sees you're finding any bit of your rhythm, it might be tough, but I'm not gonna let her win today." When saying it would be tough, Serena was more than right as she went down 2-6 1-4 in less than 50 minutes. We never get used to see a player get down that quick that often in a week, all of her fans were biting their nails hoping she would manage to comeback, Serena made them all happy. She turned things around and got up 5-4, but we still had to play a tie break and a really nerve racking one. The younger player of the two was down 2-5, momentum had swing on Reena's side, but Harkleroad started lacing her shoes between each point, or replacing her socks and rackets string, everything to slow up the match and make Serena get out of herself. It sadly worked out, it was Harkleroad time to turn things around, she got up 6-5, having her first MP, Serena saved it, then there was a second match point, lucky netcord, Serena saved it. Harkleraod than got a point penalty as she had already had been warned for taking too much time between points, Serena fired an ace off the T line and took the second set 7-6(7). Last set lasted 15 minutes, Serena was everywhere on the court coming to the net to end points quickly, Harkleroad's almost achieved the impossible in beating Serena at the AO and FO, but this third set turned into a nightmare for her, Ree finally won the match 2-6 7-6(7) 6-0.

http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s348/Canuck_Blog/Serena-3.jpg

Semi Final : Prevent a ball basher from getting to a Grand Slam final.

The Queen of the OWTT was facing Victoria Azarenka in semis, a surprising semi finalist in this year's French Open edition. Serena said a bout her "I'm surprised to see her get that far in a Grand Slam on clay, I saw her playing a couple of times and she has not got a lot of deepness in her game. When she's on, she can hit really hard and with a lot of pace, but when she's not playing her best, she's got no Plan B, she can't hit angles, drop shot or volleys. But she's in semis, so her game must be on this week." Serena was totally right, the Belarussian was on, Azarenka won the first set of their match 6-2, but not because of Serena's multiple mistakes but with her heavy winners off the lines. The world number 1 still wasn't that impressed and had already seen better only when practicing with her sister. In the second set we were toe to toe, Ree forced Azarenka in coming to the net with some amazing drop shots and hit crazy angled shots forcing Azarenka to hit balls on the run while being completely off balance and off court. Azarenka still managed to get Serena to 5-5 with some great serving, but in the end of this seond set, it was just not enough, Serena wasn't gonna let such a youngster beat her at this point of a GS semi. Azarenka offered some resistance in the final set but never could reach Serena's level of play, after getting up 3-0, Serena never looked back and held her nerves to make her second slam final in career. Final score was 2-6 7-5 6-3. Serena said after the match, "I was not going to let this match slip away through my fingers. There's something going with me this week, I can't really say what it is, but I just feel everything is in place for me to win this Grand Slam."

http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s348/Canuck_Blog/Serena-4.jpg

Final : Beating your this season's Black Beast.

Na Li was yet again in Serena's legs in final, Ree had beat her really early this season in Gold Coast, but she then lost her next two confrontations, losing the second and third sets the two times 6-0 6-2, much tough for a world's number 1 ego. The American player said before playing the final "I've lost our last two matches, but I don't really know why. Each time I tried my best and gave it my all, but she always had the last word, today, hopefully I'll make it diffenrent." For the crowd who had paid some really expensive tickets to see the final, if we only look at the scoreline we should have felt a bit sorry as the first two sets were really lopsided, but for the ones who saw the match, nobody felt sorry. Two bagels of entrance, Na Li winning the first and Serena Williams the second, but it was not a matter of unforced errors, but of amazing winners. Na Li started the match like nobody could have stopped her from winning this GS event, but somehow, Serena Williams broke of entrance in the second set and it totally threw the Chinese women down. Serena didn't miss this opportunity of entering in the match, she quickly found her best shots and she must have fired 15 backhand winners down the line in this second set. In the final set, it seemed we were going to have a first tight set, score went ot 1-1 and 3-2 for Serena, but Williams got a break there and then held to lead 5-2. It seemed it would be impossible for Na Li to climb back and level the score with the way Serena was playing and it really was. Na Li had time to hold once more, but Serena didn't miss her chance when serving for the match. Na Li sent a last forehand in the net and Ree threw her racket up in the air celebrating her second GS title. In the trophy ceremony she said, "Year had been tough untill here, I had no title, I was very far back in The Race for the YEC and it was frustratinf for me and my coaches as I really was trying my best. I'm really gald things finally all got together here at Roland Garros. Na played really well, she will probably win a slam one day, but this one was mine."

I'm very happy that I was in final. It's pity that I lost, but I suppose that I will win next time.

Congrats Serena :yeah:
