I feel selfish that I am the only one starting these tournament threads, but anyways as we know Eleni is playing here, and Ula is going. Also, Anna Gerasimou is in the qualifying. It is the last tournament for the goddess this year, so hopefully she can win a match, so she can end they year on a high note.

2 days ago they said it would be a nice, sunny weather in Krakow, about 17C. Today it looks like it's gonna be 12C. I suppose it's best to pack warm clothes just in case. November is unpredictable.

Is it an outdoor tournament? Btw, since Anna is in a SF, I don't know if she will play Krakow:sad:. But maybe she will get a SE into MD.

Yeah, sorry :) I arrived in Cracow on Monday at about 1pm, checked in at the hotel, did a little unpacking, went to KFC to grab something to eat and decided to look for the courts. It was a walking distance so I reached it in about 30 minutes. When I got there I saw that singles were scheduled for Centre Court while doubles for Wola1 and Wola2 courts. I was like "where the hell is Wola1?" and the guy told me it's about 5 minutes by car from where I was. Fortunately one guy offered me a lift (he was tournament employee and he was about to drive there anyway) as it was in the middle of nowhere. When I got there Eleni & Jaz were in the middle of practice. I watched them for some time, took a few pics and talked to some older guy sitting next to me. At one point Eleni looked in my direction, waved and said "hi". I assume she was addressing me unless she wanted to say hi to the younger of Radwanskas sisters but somehow I doubt they know each other. When girls finished the training I approached Eleni, we shook hands and exchanged greetings. I sat next to Eleni and we had a small talk. I asked her when she arrived, how did she liked in Cracov, how did her knee feel etc. She said her knee was getting better and better, I asked her if it's the other one and she said it's (she had a serious knee surgery years ago as you probably remember, it was a carreer threat). She told me it hurts every now and then when the weather changes and I told her she's too young for that. In the meantime Jaz approached and I offered her my seat but she sat on my right while Eleni was on my left. I asked Jaz how she liked Cracov, whether they had a chance to see Old Town and Eleni said they went to Old Town a day before, it was very nice and they had a dinner in some restaurant with raspberry in the name. They said they saw some drunk people who were so pissed they barely could walk straight. I laughed and said they might be British tourists as they are a real problem in Cracow  Eleni said they looked Polish but how can she tell? ;)
Soon they left to warm up before the match and the game began. As you know they lost but it was a 3 setter (don't you just hate this played to 10 points 3rd set rule?). After the match I took taxi to the hotel as there was no way I would find my way back to the hotel by myself in the dark and in the middle of nowhere.
Day2 tomorrow guys.

hellas719
Nov 12th, 2008, 08:03 PM
Thanks soooooooooooooo much, Ula. Wow. That sounds really cool. About British tourists, they are a major problem in Greece, mostly in Rhodes, Zakynthos, Corfu and Crete, but also in tons of other places. They get drunk and get into fights, and stuff like that. Anyways, I can't wait for day2 tomorrow.

Sorry for delay.

When order of play for Tusday was released I noticed that Eleni's match was scheduled for Not Before 3pm so I decided to get up early, have a breakfast and go to the city centre as I haven't been there in years. I'll show you some pics as soon as imageshack lets me. I had a wonderful walk through the street of Old Town, I saw Royal Castle at Wawel Hill, went to Dragon's Cave and also stopped by the pope's John Paul II window at Franciszkanska 3 Street.
I left Old Town a few minutes past 2pm and drove back to the courts with a streetcar. When I reached the building some match was in the progress. Few moments later I saw Eleni and Jaz watching the match from the stands. I wasn't much interested in the game but I sat patiently waiting for it to end. When the match ended I realised that Eleni's match is even further delayed. I asked her about it and she just shrugged her arms and drank on her powerade. I suppose she's used to such situations. I on the other hand got irritated and sat there with my mp3 player hoping the match would finish fast. It did after just one set because one of the players retired. Eleni had a slow start, she lost 1st set, won the 2nd and I hoped she would win 3rd as well but she got broken early in the final set and she definitely wasn't pleased with herself. I'm sure you all know what happens when Eleni gets frustrated, angry and starts talking to herself. After the match I went downstairs and I almost bumped into Eleni who was already leaving. I could see she was crying in the locker room and my heart breaks every time I see her upset. She passed me by without a word so I decided it's better to leave her alone. She went outside and stood next to their big black VW SUV for a long time talking with the coach. A while later I saw Jaz, I told her I was sorry Eleni lost. Jaz went to the car, then came back to the building and when she exited it again she said goodbye to me. I stayed outside for a while longer wondering what to do. Eventually I decided to leave the courts. Eleni was still standing in front of the car so I said bye to her and she waved to me sadly with her hand. It was a heavy fog so it took me a while to walk back to the hotel. I was sorry Eleni lost so soon but at the same time I was happy I was given a chance to see her again. Something I definitely didn't expect. To be honest it felt a bit surreal. It still does.

Aww. Poor Eleni:sad:. At least you got to see her:confused:. It is a happy story, but it is also quite tragic. I will never forget the 2006 US Open, when I got front row seats on court7, and waited there for hours to find out there was another rain delay and Eleni wasn't going to play.

USO 2006 was a sad tournament both for Eleni and her fans. If I remember well she got injured during match vs Na Li. I was at this match and afterwards I managed to have a word with her in the parking lot. Too many injuries  Hopefully she'll stay healthy in 2009 and seasons to come.

I hope so too. The best Greek in ATP or WTA rankings is Baghdatis, and he doesn't even represent Greece, and he's #100 this week. Eleni really has to get back on track. Will she have to go through qualies

Sorry for a late response but I was away on a business trip for two days.
Regarding your questions :
- I did stay for day 3 but Eleni was already out of the tournament so I spent my time in Old Town again.
- the coach was German speaking and it was no Daniel for sure. I don't know anything about him as we didn't speak to each other and I didn't ask Eleni about him either.
- I'm sure she can afford such a car. I don't like VW though :)

ok no i will be rude but...how thick or blind can she be ha?she said that the german style suits her game but...cant she see that its not working?it didnt work with daniel it didnt work with jaz or that new coach!!!
can she just keep jaz for whatever and then try to find a new coach?things were really working with the greek coach she used to have and with judith (it was judith right)?
oh well.one bad choice after the other!
