So Kimiko not only made it in on ranking (no more qualies at ITFs :woohoo: ), but also she can and has beat most of the players above her with the exception of Hsieh and Chan.

By the way, I forgot to mention that all the matches are saved (well they are last year) and can be watched at any time which is another reason why I love this tournament so much. Obviously it won't be the same as watching a live match, but still very convenient. Its just a shame this tournament doesn't get the recognition of some of the big European ITFs, because it is certainly as well organised but doesn't have the European players which posters seem more interested in.

Anyway, everyone seems to want to watch Kimiko so I just found a match on the site of her in the 10k Ariake final against Shiho Akita, a promising young Japanese player for those who are interested.

Anyway, I'll shut up now. :wavey:

Cat's Pajamas
Oct 27th, 2008, 12:43 AM
Well I doubt the players have anything against the tournament, it simply more convenient for the players to stay close to home and avoid having to pay pricey airplane tickets. Not to mention there are bigger tournaments in Europe with more payouts.

But I'm not complaining, I will maybe get to watch Alexandra! :hearts:

Okay, so far from watching the feeds Maekawa def. Koshino and Okadaue def. Wongteanchai.

I saw most of the Maekawa match and she did a good job keeping the ball in play, and trying to be aggresive. Koshino is a moonballer with no real weapons. She does do a good job scrambling around the court looking for a way to come to the net though. Koshino hits heavy topspin, loopy balls, which make her game look very un-Japanese.

Not much Lee needed to do really...

Morita def. Palkina 6-2, 6-3

Ksenia started the match with a huge ace, and followed that with some great play and winners to go immediately up *2-0. Then she lost the next 10 games, until Ayumi was up 6-2, 4-0*. Ksenia had some nice winners throughout the match but she had ton of UEs, especially off the backhand side. Ultimately though, Ayumi was a level above Ksenia, able to finish off the points with winners and overpowering Ksenia at times. Ksenia has a really nice first serve, when in. Ayumi made some dumb UEs of her own, and will need to be more consistent in later rounds.

Kai-Chen Chang def. Suchanun Viratprasert 6-1, 6-1

Very solid tennis from Kai-Chen. Consistent from the baseline, and hitting tons of winners at the right moment. Probably not enough power yet to beat the hard-hitters. Suchanun was a UE machine and seemed lost out there.

Was a good match from what I saw. Lots of long rallies moving each other around the court looking to open the court up for winners. Both played similar styles, Sophia just put it all together near the end and played well. Not sure who she plays next but she could challange.

Jin-A is actually quite good, probably a bit under ranked because she only plays in Japan and Korea.

Oh I agree, both of them during the 1st & 2nd sets had trouble holding serve since they were relying on their ground games majority of the time.

And Jin-A really impressed me. she takes the ball early & hit a few nice DTL winners.

Ryoko Fuda def. Jessica Moore 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(5)

Good god this match was full of chokes. Ryoko started out the match like a top-100 player, she was playing amazing tennis and there was nothing Jessica could do. In the 1st set she had a mini-choke up *5-1, and in the second set was up *3-1 before self-destructing. Not sure if nerves overtook her, or what, but she suddenly started moonballing and making stupid UEs, giving Jessica complete control of points. Jessica was leading 5-1* in third set and couldn't close the match out.The feed was really frozen so I'm not sure what happened to turn the match around and get Ryoko back in the match.

From what I saw before the feeds froze Ryoko looked to be the better player, I'm guessing lack of match play really hurt her.

I don't think she will because she didn't have a very good year. Only one tournament that she is having good run doesn't clearly mean she can get a wildcard. It would be nice if she gets one but i don't think she will.

Agreed.

She is ranked behind Moore, Dokic and Adamczak, who have all also won 25k's this season and matches on the main circuit. This is the first time Sophie has made the semi finals of any tournament all season, and whilst her wins over Nakamura and Chan are very impressive, she needs to deliver more to get a sixth consecutive Australian Open wildcard over the TA's Junior Fed Cup team of Holland, Peers/Rogowska. TA is likely to select two of them ahead of Sophie, unless Sophie wins 2 50k's by the end of the year
