View Full Version : Mod Abuse

I am about to rush off to class but I'd like to say that I think that some of the mods have been very abusive of their power and closing and deleting threads that do no harm. They also like to delete posts for no reason. The particular mod that I am discussing in this case is Bibi.
This mod deleted 3-4 of my posts and this is what I remember of them...
1.
2. (Something to frontier like) I thought posts were being deleted frontier. And you said it was Bibi?
3. Oh I get it now, Bibi is a Justine fan, :rolls: :haha:
I remember the fourth one as well but that deletion was justified.

So I would just like to know why some mods are not corrected for not being impartial.
I really feel like some of you guys are just abusing your power because of personal opinions,

Thanks for the reply and the close of this thread that I know is coming,
Why not leave this thread open for discussion,

At least your post is a lot more articulate than your last contribution to this forum.

If there are questions regarding deletion of a post (or more posts) contact the moderator by PM. There is no need to waste several posts in a thread that is about a totally different topic. You may still not agree in the end, but there is room for discussion always. Only thing is you do it in a reasonable fashion. Hurling accusations about will not get you anywhere.

I will leave the thread open for now. But don't make me regret it later then.

1st.

2nd.

Almost all of the Mods (except few) NEVER awnser PM's and even less if you're complaining about something they did.

I already said something about that in my reply. If you send a reasonable message, you will no doubt get an answer. I have seen cases though where people first either hurl abuse or badrep the mod in question. One should not expect a lot in those cases.

I've seen mods who are like that.

Is there any way to complain about a moderator behaviour and get them stripped of their moderator status?

I can think of two moderators who are biased againsts players they don't like and if you try to discuss it with them they act like their above it all.

Note: I'm not talking about ^bibi^

I understand your point, but I would like to offer another perspective on that too. Mods and admins have a special responsibility. Yet some people think that this means they can never voice an opinion for this reason. It's true to say that when a mod or admin acts in an official capacity that opinion should not come into play. Sometimes they are human too and there can be a fine line between the two roles. Mods and admins are not above criticism in any way though.

Complaining about mods or admins can be done by reporting the relevant post, as with any other poster. Stripping of the mod status can happen in extreme cases.

Some of the posters here are ridiculous. Don't complain about moderators when 50% of your posts are nothing but insults against other posters and trying to antagonize people.

As you can tell, I'm not as diplomatic as James or Linda. And based on the crap bibi puts up with in GM, I wouldn't blame him for not responding to some of you. ;)

Well, even for me it´s sometimes difficult to bow to mods that are some years younger than me :p

And i want to add: Sometimes it´s enough to close a thread, there is often no need to delete it.

But now it´s time for a praise:
Many mods/admins i got to know on this board (per example Kart, James, Yasmine, Ceze, tobi, DoctorG, rrfnpump) are ALWAYS friendly and fair :worship:

A few mods are a little bit strange and seem to be unsympathetic, but it´s not that important for me that i would name them here - so I just ignore them :p

This is one time I have to agree with Il Primo. A little trigger happy for my tastes.

Anyway, I want to give out kudos to the following mods and admins for fair and objective administration and for being kind and understanding, especially when I'm upset. :)

Kart, James, Yasmine, Ceze, and Ryan. Ryan and I haven't always got along or agreed, but I have respect for him because I think he's trying really hard to be a good moderator and I want to support him based on our realty show friendship. ;) He knows what I mean.

Maybe someone should open one thread about difficulties with moderators, instead of opening a new one everytime someone has a problem. I know I've opened a few, maybe it might just be easier to check back on the one thread instead of going through numerous ones.

I've had difficulties with one or two moderators who I disliked, but it's time to get over it. These people are taking time out of their own day to keep the TennisForum streets clean and free of player bashing. Overall, the new moderators have done a pretty stand up job so far, so ease of them a bit.

If you have a problem with a moderator, PM the moderator. If they don't reply, PM an administrator. Don't open a thread just for the purpose of demeaning them or attempting to publicly shame them.

i use to have an issue with one specific moderator, but then we sorted our differences. I think most Mods are just doing thier jobs. I agree with what BiBi does because of what he does put up with. I think they do a good job in this forum

I bumped a 2006 thread for when Jamea Jackson bt. Maria Sharapova at Birmingham and asked was it her worst ever loss? The thread got closed because 'You shouldn't bump old threads for no stupid reason'. I mean what? Firstly your like never online and then you close an innocent discussion...because it was a bumped thread? I mean are there rules on bumping that I missed or something?. He also gave me an infraction for posting a video that everyone thought was hilarious, but he deemed it pornographic and offensive. IMO I only got the infraction because he watched it and he was annoyed. Which isn't fair, because this is a board about discussions and sharing your views. He also put in the infraction that I opened a closed thread, which was closed for no reason in the 1st place. except people disagreed over something, which is to be expected on a forum :weirdo:

Some of them do stick together regardless of reason to the contrary. But, I see it in the work place. Right or wrong the big chief usually sides with the immediate supervisor, but they usually get a tongue lashing behind closed doors if they are wrong. Some employers, however, are open to hearing both sides and making a fair decision. That is something I've yet to see on these boards yet though.

Zamboni
Jan 9th, 2009, 08:51 PM
Old threads that get bumped are usually closed whenever we notice them.
Why? Because they are usually controverse-inspiring threads that are bumped only for that reason; to start a controverse. And yes, sometimes they're closed before they get out of hand, as precaution.

As for the thread of your least favourite posters - same thing. These only inspire fights sooner or later, so they're moved out.

Oh, and infractions are always given when you reopen a closed or deleted thread.

Hope this helps.

---

Anarena, you can try but these things are usually between the admins and the poster.

This question?

GM mods don't prowl the chat threads... and people in the chat threads probably are less bothered about naughty things being in there - why would you go into a chat thread if you think you're going to have to report something? Its meant to be full of ur mates, right? Plus, chat threads are immense.... for the NT mods to go thru them all would be impossible.

I have no idea what the link was, was it tennis related? Cos GM is obv meant to be tennis only. Your best bet would be to PM Canuck if you're really hot under the collar about it. He's very nice. Much nicer than me.

That's another thing. Saying things like this and some of the mods (especially some of the admins) siggys and locations, convey that you're a bunch of bullies and that the posters should fear you or something. Is it the power that goes to your head? Some police are like that. It just feels very uncomfortable and threatening. Not all mods/admins are like that, like James and new-york. They try to keep the peace, but some just make the situation worse with nastiness and treating posters like children.

Most of us are not children and resent the treatment. And, please don't say that we are acting like children, because most of the time, that is just not true, but it seems that's the only way some of you know how to handle a situation.

Sometimes some of us are singled out and made to pay for what someone else has started or continued to perpetrate. When we try to explain, you don't want to hear it, make your judgment based on what you think happened and that's it. It's like a tyranny.

Okay, sorry I know I went on a rant. I'm just curious.

i think sonic is a great moderator.

ok i have a problem with the way things are moderated (is that a word lol) around here. i am totaly sick of the protection williams fans get. for example in the thread in GM (which it shouldn't have been in anyway) it was dedicated to pictures of serena leaving a airport, she looked ridiculous and i posted a cheeky picture of a gremlin to compare her to. now if mods deem that too much, ok, and my post was deleted. the same week may have even been the same day i open a thread about WTA merchandise and one of the usual 'get away with anything' williams fans posted a picture of a ugly witches mask and said 'you can already buy jankovic masks'. now this post wasn't deleted, so i get from that either its ok to compare someone to a witch but not a gremlin, or mods protect williams fans and if im truthful are a little scared at the shit they kick up at any moment.

also i wouldn't dare go into a thread and call serena shit or crap, yet it is constantly leveled at a certain player i like (as well as others) and 9 times out of 10 its by a williams fan. now maybe mods are ok with posters just calling players shit to attack the poster their disagreeing with, but i don't think it is right.

i know this post wont be popular, but i needed to say these things as its getting to the point where as a fan of a supposed 'lesser' player i feel like a lesser poster, i also feel the forum lends itself to being more accompanying to 'better' players fans. in my eyes a forum should be ruled with a fair hand, not one that is weighted towards certain fan groups.

Actually I'm online more then you think, I just have my status as set to invisible I guess. It doesn't matter if the a thread was closed for no good reason or not, it was closed. Simple as that. You aren't allowed to re-open a locked thread. We locked it because we felt it was the right thing to do, that doesn't give you the right to re-post it.

And no I didn't give you an infraction because I got annoyed. I gave you an infraction because having a link that brings you to a window that has 3 old men fucking in the shower that jumps all over your screen and is not possible to close until the video is over is not appropriate for this board. You may find it funny, but if some 13 year old poster clicked on that link and their parents walked in, I doubt they would be as amused as you were.

Lastly I locked the Birmingham thread because you bumped a 2 year old result thread, if you wanted to discuss if it was her worse lost ever you should have opened a new thread about it. Bumping old result threads confuse people. Anything else I can assist you with?

No sexual intercourse, just nudity. It is possible to close by accessing the control panel on your computer and closing it. Well if the results thread is bumped during the off season I'm sure any tennis fan would not be confused, by a result that happened 3 years ago .
As for the rest I just got my first ownage on the board :haha:

You really should open that link again if you think they are just naked old men

BTW, the same link was quoted on Nov 10th, 2008 in the chat threads (and remains there to this day) and I didn't get an infraction by the Mod! So why did CANCUK give me one? I swear he's on a personal vendetta to get me banned or something.

I'm glad you find it amusing because I don't see anything funny about you essentially trying to smear ~CANUCK~'s reputation despite clearly being in the wrong and essentially admitting that you knew it later on.

Seems to me you owe him an apology.

Which you can choose to give (or not) in private as I'm closing this thread for the very reason that you've just illustrated - namely that there's always two sides to every story.

If any of you have further grievances to air: all the moderators, administrators and webmaster are contactable via private message.

I know the thread starter wanted this thread 'left open for discussion' but, given that she's not contributed anything further to it and there's been scarcely any constructive posts in the three plus months since it was created, I guess there isn't really all that much to talk about.

Other than the admins and mods you don't like but then there are plenty of other threads on this board where you all already do that ;).
