Special Exemp....they usually give it to players who played in a final of the tournment the week before so they couldn't play the qualies... I guess they decided to give it to her even though she was pnly in SF because they know it's not easy to get to Saguenay that quickly :p

Has Val been through some hard times? Injury?

Well I'm not the most aware person to tell you but I think she got injured, then she changed coaches few times, she got out of shape, out of confidence, I know she even considered to retire few months ago, then she decided to train hard and to come back this fall, and she's quite young, only 20 years old I think

Dubois Survives First Round Scare in Saguenay

October 22, 2008

Third seed pushed to three sets by El Tabakh

Stéphanie Dubois (Laval, Québec) got off to a winning start on Wednesday at the Saguenay National Bank Challenger, a $50,000 International Tennis Federation (ITF) event being held at the Saguenay indoor tennis club from October 18 to 26, 2008.

The tournament’s third seed, ranked no. 110 on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings, advanced to the second round, but not without a fight as she was pushed to the limit by compatriot Heidi El Tabakh, ranked no. 377, before coming out on top 7-6(8), 4-6, 7-5 in a thrilling encounter. Dubois found herself on the brink of defeat down 3-5 in the final set, but managed to win the last four games to pull out a victory over her tenacious, in-form opponent.

“She (El Tabakh) played a great match, but I was able to remain focused and dig deep in the end to come away with the win,” Dubois said. “I didn’t play the kind of match I wanted to, but the good news is I get to come back tomorrow to try and do better.”

Meanwhile, Dubois’ doubles partner, Marie-Ève Pelletier (Repentigny, Québec), 289th, fell 6-4, 6-1 to fourth-seeded Ioana-Raluca Olaru of Romania, ranked no. 134. Olaru is a two-time semifinalist on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and reached a career-high ranking of no. 55 in October 2007.

Second-seeded Melinda Czink of Hungary, ranked no. 114, posted a 6-3, 6-3 opening round triumph over Veronika Chvojkova of the Czech-Republic. She will be joined in the second round by compatriot Aniko Kapros, 318th, who eliminated Russian Alina Jidkova 6-0, 6-1 in her opening match. Croatia’s Ana Savic, Ana Timotic of Serbia and Americans Alexa Glatch and Mashona Washington round out the 16 players remaining in the draw.

Full slate of matches scheduled for Thursday

All players still alive in both singles and doubles will hit the courts on Thursday. Dubois will face Germany’s Carmen Klaschka during the day session along with Canadian wildcard Rebecca Marino (Vancouver, British Columbia) who takes on Kapros. Valérie Tétreault (St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) will play the feature match of the evening session as she goes up against Washington with the hope of building on her opening round upset of top-seeded Romanian Edina Gallovits. Three Canadian doubles teams will also be vying for a berth in Friday’s semifinals.

Action gets underway at 10:00 a.m. at the Saguenay indoor tennis club. For more information on the National Bank Circuit, please visit www.tenniscanada.com

Semifinals Set at Saguenay National Bank Challenger
October 24, 2008

Tétreault falls to Glatch in quarter-final clash

It’s on to the semifinals at the Saguenay National Bank Challenger, a $50,000 International Tennis Federation (ITF) event being held at the Saguenay indoor tennis club from October 18 to 26, 2008.

Valérie Tétreault (St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec), a wild card into the main draw and the only remaining Canadian in the singles draw, had her impressive run ended by American Alexa Glatch, falling 6-4, 6-1 in Friday’s quarter-finals. The 20-year-old Canadian was in tough against Glatch, who now finds herself in the midst of an eight match win streak after taking home top honours at last week’s Tevlin Challenger in Toronto. Her strong play has also allowed her to reach a career-high ranking of no. 194 on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings.

“She (Glatch) played really well today off both sides and made me feeI like I had to do a little bit more with my shots to win points,” Tétreault analyzed after the match. “I really enjoy playing in Saguenay and I had two big wins so I am feeling confident heading into Québec (Bell Challenge) next week.”

Glatch will take on Aniko Kapros, 295th, who bested fourth-seeded Romanian Ioana-Raluca Olaru 6-2, 6-2 in Thursday’s feature evening session encounter. Kapros was dominant throughout from the baseline and benefited from her opponent’s poor serving performance as Olaru was unable to hold serve once through the entire match, to secure a straightforward victory.

Friday’s second semifinal will see sixth-seeded Alberta Brianti of Italy, ranked no. 188, go up against Germany’s Carmen Klaschka. Brianti was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over American teen Gail Brodsky. Meanwhile, Klaschka, ranked no. 244, took care of seventh-seeded Sunitha Rao of India 6-4, 6-1.

The singles semifinals will get underway at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Saguenay indoor tennis club, followed by the doubles final which will not begin before 2:00 p.m. For more information

I think they have scheduled most of the matches involving players still in this tourney for late afternoon matches. So, if a player loses here they will most likely be able to still play in Quebec, but there is no hope of playing in quebec if they win:angel:. Its a win/ win situation, unless you lose here and then lose in Quebec later in the afternoon:lol::p...:wavey:

Well it's not all of the sudden for me. It's kind of it finally comes out for Alexa now.
Because if you look at her activity, she never actually had a bad loss after March this year.
If she lost she just had a really good opponent or it was a tough match.

Glatch won 6-3 6-0

today

Kapros def de Brito 6-2 6-2

so i guess, it was not a 'real' result, Kapros just tanked.
