Omg whats Obzillers ranking

She's currently #123, but her career high was #75 last year.

Sep 26th, 2008, 07:39 PM
This is quite fascinating.

I expected her to beat Borwell who frankly just isn't very good and Radwanska because Ula can self-destruct against anyone, much less a 14-year old she is probably thinking she should crush, but I really did not think she would beat Obziler, who is very experienced on the ITF circuit. She should be very proud of herself.

Amazing! Laura :worship:

I said it during Wimbledon: Laura's game doesn't look like a junior's. She can def hang with the top 150.

And look at me. I'm right, yet again. :hearts:

Keep it up Laura.

Sep 26th, 2008, 07:41 PM

Very impressive

Sep 26th, 2008, 07:42 PM
I think there was some scorn on this board when us Brits got so excited at Wimbledon about Laura. But then we had had the advantage of seeing her play close up. At the time I couldn't believe my eyes. I'd seen the previous 5 Junior finals and to me Laura was a more complete player than any of the other winners, and at 14! She did not appear to have any weaknesses that would be found out at the higher levels. My worry was that she might not "train on" but this week has dispelled that for me. Britain expects!!!

Sep 26th, 2008, 07:49 PM
I am shocked. Just an amazing win. An amazing tournament really. It is hard to get my head around it but this girl is actually going to be seriously big, providing nothing goes wrong with her development. It is certainly going to be fun to watch this career unfold. Suffice to say nothing like this has never happened in Women's tennis in this country as long as I can remember and that is going back about 20 years.

I think the word that best sums up how this whole thing feels to me right now is "surrealistic".

Sep 26th, 2008, 07:52 PM
Laura! :woohoo:

Fantastic win. :worship:

Sep 26th, 2008, 07:53 PM
Amazing :worship:. This girl has big talent and its great for Britain to have a star.
Stick at it Larua and keep improving

Sep 26th, 2008, 08:23 PM
Amazing!! :speakles: Well done, Laura! I know that Laura is good, and I know she has lots (and LOTS) of potential, but this all seems to be happening very quickly... Whatever happens in her semi-final, she really has had a great week. :)

Commiserations to Obziler.

Sep 26th, 2008, 08:30 PM
This is the future of womens tennis :worship:

Sep 26th, 2008, 08:49 PM
Laura, well done :yeah:

Sep 26th, 2008, 09:18 PM
wow! :D

I was thinking the other day that even though Laura is good, I wondered why she wasnt making as much noise as say, Michelle Larcher De Britto... I know Michelle is a little older, but not by much.

And now I kind of have that answer;

She is starting to make the noise :p

Europe rocks
Sep 26th, 2008, 09:22 PM
Laura  What a win! Keep it up and good luck against Maret

Sep 26th, 2008, 09:24 PM
^^De Britto is a year older than Robson (a year and a week to be exact, if im not mistaken), so lets see how much noise laura has made in a year!;)

Sep 26th, 2008, 09:30 PM
 :D Well done Laura :bounce:

Sep 26th, 2008, 09:39 PM
IMHO, there's not been such an exciting 14-year old's home country pro-debut since Hingis beat Patty Fendick in Zurich. No pressure...

Sep 26th, 2008, 09:43 PM
Laura :)

Sep 26th, 2008, 09:50 PM
amazing from the 14 year old

Report from Wolf on britishtennis.net who was at shrewsbury today:

"After seeing Laura play on Wednesday, I thought to myself, 'definately will be top 100, should be top 50, could be top 10.' After seeing her today I will change that to 'definately will be top 50, should be top 10, could be no.1'. She played some seriously good tennis today. Seriously. Her backhand is like a dream. Her forehand is extremley useful. Her serving is effortless. And on her returns she takes the ball so early she immediately forces her opponent on the backfoot. And that is not to mention her incredible composure and lack of stage fright. Today she must have hit between 20-30 winners. She only had to save two break points, both in the first game of the second set. The veteran Oblizer didn't show much of her experience, continually hitting to Laura's backhand, her strength, and continually getting punished."

Sep 26th, 2008, 10:15 PM
 Wow, well done Laura!! :bigclap:

Sep 26th, 2008, 10:15 PM
That win surprise me less than the one against Ula but amazing stuff for a young girl like her :worship:

Sep 26th, 2008, 10:21 PM
OMG  :woohoo: :bounce:
Well done laura, awesome stuff!! :yeah:
I can definately see her beatin Ani in the semis, but if she does - i think Vinci may be 1 step too far in the final (pressuming that Vinci comes through her semi which i think she will), but still an amazing event for her :worship:

I wondered why she wasnt making as much noise as say, Michelle Larcher De Britto...

No one could make as much noise as her. I couldn't resist.

I'm really happy for Laura, this is excellent. My fear is that she will have too much pressure put on her at such a young age, but I'm so pleased with her results nonetheless.

One thing She never knew:wavey:

Sep 27th, 2008, 12:20 AM
I am also shocked about this result.

Obziler is really the perfect opponent to beat a young (in this case, very young) junior. I thought Obzlier would even win rather easily, mix up the pace, not too much power, some slice here, a drop shot there and Robson would lose her rythm and crack.
Obziler is also very fit, so even if the 14 year old could overpower her (Already I find that increadable) Obzlier should be able to run down balls and use her guile to... well... win the points!
Robson is obviously special...
Let's not let things get out of hand, this is womens tennis, where a player can peak at 17-18 years of age, remember Su-Wei Hseih absolutely tearing up the field at 15 years of age? going on a massive winning streak... and she is only an standard top 100 player today.

Having said that, I also found Robsons game to resemble that of a more seasoned player, and her serve was very good. not only this... she doesnt seem intimidated by her opponents.. she definently has the qualities of a top player. Good luck to her in the future. :)

Sep 27th, 2008, 12:28 AM
Let me add, if she can beat Obziler, I don't see why she can't take out Ani.

Maret Ani is rather one-dimensional compared to Obziler, however, her serve is better, and she can most probably hit harder from the back of the court, also imparting spin on the ball, this makes her as consistent as Oblizer, but generally without the slices and 'fuzzy balls' that Obziler can give. Logically, this would play more into Robsons game style... as the Obziler type player on paper, is more difficult for a junior. Should be an interesting match... :)

Sep 27th, 2008, 01:48 AM
So many have said it but yeah - wow!!! Very impressive this girl.

Sep 27th, 2008, 02:43 AM
A great tournament for Laura, but I really hope she doesn't read the "could be no. 1" and "future of women's tennis" type comments. Or if she reads them, she doesn't let them get to her.

Sep 27th, 2008, 03:18 AM
Wow, British tennis has something really to get excited about, what a result

Sep 27th, 2008, 03:29 AM
Great job Laura

Win Wimbledon next year!!

Sep 27th, 2008, 11:43 AM
Great stuff Laura. Hoping she can keep going but what a debut in the UK.

Sep 27th, 2008, 11:48 AM
Wow she is really big talent. A great win against experienced Obziler. I hope she will win semis too
