She led 6-1* in the TB, then lost the next 4 points :help:. The 2nd set was much better :yeah:

It seemed like a lesson in Howtobuggerupatiebreak, but Franny is always a fighter!

another small step towards YEC over Aga.
well done Vera - capitalizing well against opponents she should be beating.

it would have been a phenomenal year had she done the slightest better at the slams. with the mandatory events taking up so much of her best other pointers out, she really is under-ranked in the 52 week system.

I don't agree with you. Although I really like Vera and I do think she has been having a great year (she has returned to top 10 so that's awesome), I don't agree when you say she is under-ranked. She clearly belongs to the bottom of top 10 (at least for now) because she gets some nice results in many tournaments but she really sucked in Grand Slams and, like it or not, those are the stages that really matter.

What was the score of the match? The score should be in the title, not h2h

Vera has reached the QF or better at all her non grand slam tournaments up to rome. that's a "wow" start.
in RG she played nonsense players all the way to the 4th roung where she couldn't capitalize against Dementieva on a brilliant surface for her with a real chance to go deeper yet.
and from there she collapsed all the way untill the olympics where she didn't beat anyone big (as opposed to the first half of the year where she did well against the top crop in the world) but started beating whom she *should* again.
the title win last week was another great confidence booster, and again nothing brilliant against anyone big.
this week is a good chance to show where she stands. is she a prospect to do something in the YEC, where i think she can do well - or will they use her to wipe the floor.

she beat capriati in one of her best ever matches a few years back to qualify by right to the YEC, this year she has another chance to do so, of course Venus will be favoured as WC (which i support) but she is one of the top8 this year in terms of bieng consistent - thats why she's not ranked high enough.
only Kuznetsova, Safina Jankovic and Dementieva played better tennis all year long.
anything remotely close to her actual abbilities at the slam and she'd be fighting for a top5 year end finish.

not only did Bepa bagel Fran, but she also won 2 games more than necessary.

Vera would move somewhat up the rankings if she had lost in the slams only to players who were ranked higher than her.

If Vera made it to the 3rd round at the Australian Open and lost to Vaidisova, made it to the 4th round of Wimbledon and lost to Jankovic, and made it to the quarterfinals of the US Open and lost to Jankovic, she would be ranked #8 and have 2504 ranking points, which is 366 ranking points from #7 Kuznetsova.

that's what I mean.
top10 at ten seems like she's fighting for her spot at the top, while she should be just about gaurenteed top8 seeding for the slams (baring that every slam nowadays you get a withdraw...)
her grand slam points are currently 2 of her bottom 5 results. her 18th best stands at 60 points (will change after this week though).
the race points are going to have her at #8 with another win, right?
I just hope she can do well in the Australian Open - from there on she could keep a great next year if she seeds herself so highly at any tournament she enters.

AMG then Jankovic in the semis probably. Vera's got a great shot at the final, possibly the title too if she doesn't face a red-hot Ana or Svetlana.

Why do I get my hopes up. :sobbing: This is a great win as always, shouldn't look too far ahead.
