from what i make out of it, the Czech girls will play without Nicole :(

Jan 19th, 2009, 07:59 PM
Nicole is a mess right now. She wouldn't do anything good for the team.
Of course, when she's playing well, it's important to have her on the team because she always deliver but right now, she can be with Radek.

I think the team is going to be Petra, Iveta, Lucie and Kveta.

Jan 24th, 2009, 10:21 PM
I'd nominate:
-Safarova? Zakopalova? Cetkovska?

Jan 25th, 2009, 05:41 PM
Nicole wants to focus on ranking again and also doesn't want to lose in FED CUP because she knows she is not playing well, that's smart decision :) I think she wouldn't be nominated anyway though her win/loss ratio is amazing in FED CUP, especially in singles :)

I would nominate Benesova, Kvitova, Safarova and Peschke :)

Jan 26th, 2009, 11:50 AM
Will Kvitova play FED CUP?

Jan 27th, 2009, 11:11 PM
Spain is :

Maria Jose

Ok. Anabel isn't there so it give them a break.

The Czech team is Petra, Iveta, Lucie and Kveta.
I think if Iveta doesn't crack under the pressure before the tie, she will play Saturday. If she loses, Lucie will play Sunday. Something like that.

Jan 28th, 2009, 02:40 AM

I think Czech's girls are good at playing in this court...

Jan 30th, 2009, 10:15 AM
China was knocked out by Spain last year...

Feb 2nd, 2009, 04:34 AM
at this time i think this is the best possible team we could have...i like their chances. good luck ladies! :D

Feb 2nd, 2009, 04:00 PM
spain has a good double:scared:

Feb 2nd, 2009, 05:17 PM
I think the Czechs got a strong team. If they could cause some damage in singles and they win the tie, I can image they could also get into the final. :)

Feb 3rd, 2009, 03:08 AM
They'd better win 3 single matchs as soon as possible...

First day pairings are up: Petra Kvitova agst Carla Suarez Navarro, followed by Iveta Benesova agst Nuria Llagostera-Vives

Feb 6th, 2009, 06:07 PM
I was hoping Iveta would play first, would mean less pressure.

Benesova played twice in Czech Republic, 1-1 in Singles and won the decisive Doubles against Japan in 2005.
It will be the first time Petra plays in front of her home crowd in a Fed Cup match.

Hopefully they will bring their A+ game.

tears from team's hero ;):

Nice victory girls!
USA is next, at home. Way more tricky than Argentina.
If Venus plays, they're in trouble but they can beat Mattek/Crayabs/Oudin.

Feb 17th, 2009, 11:27 AM
Hey guys, someone knows where it will be played? Prague? Thanks for help!

Yellow Moon
Feb 18th, 2009, 05:27 PM
it's gonna be played in Brno, same as the last Fed Cup meet.

Feb 19th, 2009, 02:52 AM
Do you know if it will it on hard or clay, YeMo?

Yellow Moon
Feb 19th, 2009, 03:31 PM
from what my silicon friend extracts from this local newspaper:
the venue for the CZE-USA match-up will be indoor in the Rondo ice hockey arena, Brno, the same city as for the CZE-ESP encounter. The surface is refered to as "hard", but its called out as "Supreme" and identifeid as Carpet/Indoor on the fedcup web site... ;)

Apr 1st, 2009, 05:00 PM
It will be on Hard (Acrylic).
From that interview (MJF), it looks like the Sisters will not make the trip to Brno.
The US captain says they're the underdogs and speaks about the young players.

Fed Cup teams have been named:
CZE: Iveta Benesova, Petra Kvitova, Lucie Safarova, Kveta Peschke (same as earlier this year agst ESP)
USA: Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Alexa Glatch, Melanie Oudin, Liezel Huber

Apr 18th, 2009, 03:03 PM
Mattek-Sands will lose both of her matches but Oudin really impressed me this week in Charleston.

Lucka will be able to win both of her matches so we just have to hope that Iveta does not crumble under the pressure. Only one win is needed from her.

Apr 18th, 2009, 05:13 PM
I read somewhere that they might replace Iveta with Barbora but Iveta practiced all week in Prague so she should play.

Safarova will probably play 2 matches and Iveta/Petra will switch.
If might be closer than expected, with Oudin showing some form and Czech #1 and #2 far from their 100%.

Apr 19th, 2009, 04:05 PM
Petra Kvitova had an accident during one of the practice sessions and sprained her ankle. Is doubtful for Fed Cup.

Apr 19th, 2009, 04:46 PM

Hopefully she'll recover on time.

Apr 19th, 2009, 04:52 PM
oh no petra :awww:

Apr 19th, 2009, 05:46 PM
I hope she'll be ok

Apr 19th, 2009, 07:03 PM
First the elbow injury and now this. :(

She wouldn't have played singles anyway, unless Iveta decides to mess up.

Apr 20th, 2009, 08:06 PM

From what I understand, they,ll decide Tuesday night if Petra is in the team or not.
Cetkosvka, Klara or Barbora might take her place.

And Luce beat Iveta 6-4 in a practice set. She always kick her butt.

Apr 24th, 2009, 12:02 PM
Draw for Saturday

Kvitova - Mattek
Benesova - Glatch

I think Lucie should be playing instead of Petra given Petra's recent form and the injury, but let's see.

Apr 24th, 2009, 07:37 PM
I think an out-of-form Kvitova is still a better indoor player than Benesova, so it should really be Kvitova and Safarova IMO. I don't expect Glatch to beat Benesova, but Mattek-Sands should do it indoors.

Apr 24th, 2009, 10:46 PM
Safarova should've played.
I'm sure she will gets the chance on Sunday, instead of Iveta (if 1-1 or 0-2) or Petra (2-0).

Hopefully Petra will win her match, making Iveta more comfortable and Glatch more stressed.

Iveta decided to play like Brie Whitehead.

I really don't understand why they keep picking her.
She admitted herself tons of time that she can't cope with the pressure.

Apr 25th, 2009, 05:39 PM
Iveta said she would not play Fed Cup again, that it's time for young players to be given a chance. Hopefully she will reconsider.

Poor girl  It's sad, she tries and she's such a good player but everything goes wrong in Fed Cup. Cheer up, Iveta
Will she play doubles tomorrow?

Apr 25th, 2009, 09:20 PM
Pala will surely calm her down tonight.
They need her for the Doubles.

Umm no. She will never play Fed Cup again after this.
It's impossible.

It quite possibly ruined her entire season.

Apr 26th, 2009, 04:03 PM
Shade, It was a good opportunity, one that may not come anytime soon.

Apr 26th, 2009, 08:30 PM
I blame Vaidisova. ;)

Gutted for them, I can't imagine how Peschke and Benesova are feeling at the moment.

Apr 26th, 2009, 09:16 PM
cooold interview from miss sunshine peschke on fedcup.com:eek: iveta doing the talking there...

Apr 26th, 2009, 09:17 PM
i heard kveta hit a 2nd serve return just wide on matchpoint. I'm dying to see the match. sexysova is uploading it now I guess.

but would we have wanted nicole on the team anyway, in the form she's been in?
i mean sure, she's come around a bit, but has yet to prove herself again against tough competition.

Apr 26th, 2009, 11:08 PM
That's exactly what I mean. If she was in her late '06 form this tie would have been a win, no question. ;)

Apr 27th, 2009, 12:18 AM
well of course it would have been.
but she's NOT in her 06 form.
it's possible that she would have done more harm than good.
of course, it's all speculation at this point.
nonetheless, i hope she comes back next year.

despite the hi-fives and great efforts by both, Kveta and Iveta failed to deliver :tears:. Big dissapointment for CZE

It'll be without Iveta, I guess.

Lucie showed she's up for the challenge twice this year.
It might help the team to not having to deal with the problem of Iveta's being Czech #1 but sucking in Fed Cup.

It will only hurt in Doubles because Kveta/Iveta were quite good.
