I watched KOSINSKA last week @ Palic 50k, and she is a solid player. Jelena shouldnt have problems with her, but then Marosi possibly in the 2nd round. I watched her as well and she is really good, reached final where she lost to Wienierova, who is thank God in the bottom part of the draw.

Good luck, Jelena :yeah:

If Jelena can win this match, she should rise up to around 180 on the rankings. That would make her No.5 in Australia. :)

Just to cover all bases...
1st Round: 163 + 1 = 164 RANK ~ 183
2nd Round: 163 + 4 = 167 RANK ~ 180
Quarter Final: 163 + 7 = 170 RANK ~ 177
Semi Final: 163 + 12 = 175 RANK ~ 174
Runner Up: 163 + 17 = 180 RANK ~ 172
Winner: 163 + 25 = 188 RANK ~ 165

* If Jessica Moore loses R1 at the US Open, then Jelena should become the No.4 ranked Australian woman, too.

I will look past the disaster that was the 2-6 in the second set, as well as that minor choke closing out the match in the third. I like her fight and ability to stick with it all the way through. Plus we won a final set tie-breaker; it just might be the thing she needs and could very well be the swift kick in the ass she will need to go through the entire draw.;)

Miss Dokić came to Katowice with her coach and she spent time only with him, except a short evening chat with one player (but it was probably another Serbian). She's a quiet girl. Well, if not to count when she shouted at the coach after her match for a few minutes. Her match against Kosińska wasn't a great spectacle. Both girls tried to beat Polish men volleyball team on lousy serves. Especially Kosińska looked vulnerable. Dokić took the first set 6-1, but lost the second 2-6. It seems she was in some crisis; maybe she could run to balls, but didn't position herself well to hit them, hence many errors. You can't take away the fighting spirit from Kosińska. Even when she was losing 2-5 in the decider and faced a matchpoint, she could give everything from herself to defend it and come back for *6-5. Dokić was a bit surprised the match wasn't winning "itself" and she broke the Pole. Later Dokić had 6-3 in a tie-break, but won 8-6 due to Kosińska's double-fault (why am I not surprised?). Later on the Polish player admitted she hadn't played as well as she could have, and Dokić said the first match was always difficult to find a proper rhythm.

I also have a conversation with Jelena, who admittedly is a kind and well-spoken person toward journalists, but for copyright issues it can't be posted here (at least not in the next few weeks) and will be available for Polish readers in Tenis Gem Set Match magazine (for October). I wish I had a chance speaking to her in more convenient circumstances, but I didn't want to bother a player after an exhausting match, so I came up to her during the conference and had my private talk. Jelena appears as someone who made a long way for her decisions being truly hers and who has experienced a lot and definitely re-valued a lot of her life already.

If you liked the report, please click on the ad for me :)

Ouch seriously Im not sure she can do anything decent of her comeback anymore judging by her rescent results. She should be trashing all of these players like 6-1 6-1. Anything less than that says she's not worthy of a place in the top 100.

This girl that Jelena played is majorly underranked...she is a SERIOUSLY GOOD PLAYER!
She should probably be clear cut in the top 150, that's for sure.

Hey guys. Just wanted to share my thoughts about Jelena as I attended the tournament in Katowice today.
So first I saw Jelena as I was watching another match. She got to the venue with her coach (tall muscular guy with longer hair; they talked to each other in Serbian I guess... maybe it's Bikić?) and as she was walking into my direction I told her good luck when she was close to me. She replied with shy 'thanks', but didn't seem particularly happy to hear that (on the contrary to other players there, who really appreciate any support they got from - let's call us - random fans). Anyway, it's not as if that was a big deal, still kind of a turn-off. Then she sat right behind us eating her meal with his coach. After around an hour as we were watching another match she again sat behind us to watch it with her coach. They kept on talking with her coach in Serbian, from what I could get they were talking about anything but tennis. Next they headed to practice courts and boy she was hitting the ball hard. People who watched the match on the main court couldn't help but turn to watch her practice on the side. I can't really tell much about that as I decided to follow the match that was going on. All I can say is that as I said she was hitting incredibly hard and we agreed that had she kept it up, that would've been enough to handle this field. My boyfriend had a funny moment when he went to the toilet as he ran into Jelena's coach taking a shower there after the practice.
The match began with slight delay as all day long it was overcasted with a bit of a drizzle now and then. Jelena faced Anastasija Sevastova who looks like a child, very talented girl nonetheless. Jelena started terribly missing a lots of shots, she was out of her range most of the time and she wasn't hitting even half as hard as in the practice. Her grunting combined with the way she 'hushes' when she prepares to hit the shot is quite funny to see/hear. Nastya didn't allow Jelena to control the rallies and pushed her from corner to corner. Jelena also missed some easy shots and above all she hit 2 DFs on BPs she was facing. When Nastya got to *4-0 she played a poor game and allowed Jelena to comeback for a moment. Her next 3 games were really the best she played, her BH was really working well and she also hit at least 2 return winners. At 4 all, Nastya finally calmed down and after what was I'd say the only game of the match so far when both of them played quite decently at the same time she held to go 5-4* up. Sadly at this moment it started to rain quite hard and they play was suspended. We decided to leave as we didn't really to be stuck in this middle of nowhere (this part of Katowice, is really that :o) till the late evening. It cleared up quite quickly (already on our way to the train), so they managed to finish it off and I only found out about the result at home, but I'm not surprised at all. Jelena is not really fit (she has a bit of a belly... btw, her dinner didn't really look like for someone who's on a diet :o) and she can't really last well in the longer rallies. She's not patient anyway, but when she played well was when she tried to control the rally from the beginning, which was obviously a tactic involving more risk. She also complains a lot on the court and talks with her coach after every 2nd point of the match.
That's it for me. :wavey: If you want some more details, just ask. Sadly no pics for now.

Jelena :tape::tape::tape::weirdo:
I'm sorry, but that's completely pathetic. I agree she has to start playing higher ranked players, cuz she's obviously not improving playing 25ks.
Thanks for the report, Dexter :)

Bad loss, Jelena. :( Is she still scheduled to play those Asian WTA events after the US Open?

Thanks. Yeah, on those videos from german events I saw she kept on saying NE MOGU ( I cant ) to her "coach". I really dont get it why is she so nervous ? Jelena REALLY should stop playing 25k's because from what I've read she lacks motivation there. No comment for her lunch

Really too bad you did not stay till the end, because I am curious what happened in the end :(

Bad loss, Jelena. :( Is she still scheduled to play those Asian WTA events after the US Open?

i doubt it. She is playing in Maribor ( 6th in MD )50k next week, and then in Athens 100k ( in qualies ) from 8th September and then Sofia 100k from 15th September.

I really like that schedule.

bad loss.... a sports psychologist or a major motivation/attitude change would be nice right about now. im so glad she is playing though i dont mind these losses as long as she is resilient and learns from them
