Stanford QF [6] Marion Bartoli defeats [2] Anna Chakvetadze 6-3 6-4Expat Jul 19th, 2008, 03:29 AM allez so happy for u marion Iceland Jul 19th, 2008, 03:30 AM HA! :p Well done Marion !!!!!!!!! Sund7101 Jul 19th, 2008, 03:31 AM Great match Marion! Where did that confidence come from? She was really hitting the ball cleanly today. Wolverines08 Jul 19th, 2008, 03:31 AM GO MAR!!! I loved the match, there we're some nice rallies. Marion was smacking the ball! Chunchun Jul 19th, 2008, 03:32 AM Make the final!!!! and lose to Serena please :p Cat's Pajamas Jul 19th, 2008, 03:32 AM There are no words Anna. :o :help: 2008 has just been a wave of inconsistency. Can you ever put together two good tournaments let alone two good wins? Can't even beat slumping Marion. Pathetic... @danieln1 Jul 19th, 2008, 03:33 AM Marion was on fire, combined with ANNA making tons of unforced errors... but it was a fine match to watch, with great rallies! Now be in the final against: Winnerena!!! Noctis Jul 19th, 2008, 03:33 AM Marion no pressure now, plays free tennis Gl vs Ai.hopefully you'll win:) LudwigDvorak Jul 19th, 2008, 03:33 AM Anna LOST!!!!!!!! :hearts: What a great day of results at Stanford today. Now I like/respect everyone left. I fucking love it. Great win, Marion. This is what should have happened in Paris. Very happy for her. :) Noctis Jul 19th, 2008, 03:34 AM There are no words Anna. :o :help: 2008 has just been a wave of inconsistency. Can you ever put together two good tournaments let alone two good wins? Can't even beat slumping Marion. Pathetic... Last time I check Marion ain't a slump no longer sos Vespertine69 Jul 19th, 2008, 03:35 AM Blergh... such a sloppy first set from Anna, Bartoli should have won it by a bigger margin aside from a few good serves from Chak. Pity that just when Anna began to play better (and they actually had some really fun angled rallies midway through that second set) off the ground, her serve went to shit and Marion was stable enough to take the match. Nice match by Marion, glad to see her in better form, although I had hoped for a different result tonight. Anyway... I just hope Anna goes away and works on those damn putaways and gets the timing back on her backhand. ASP0315 Jul 19th, 2008, 03:35 AM marion simply outplayed chakky. she is super agressive today and outplayed chakky in rallies. good to see her get back in form. saniapower Jul 19th, 2008, 03:36 AM just rubbish Infiniti2001 Jul 19th, 2008, 03:37 AM You mean I am not watching the match live? Anyway, thank God I know the results. can Chakvetadze be any more boring? FERLKE Jul 19th, 2008, 03:38 AM thanks Marion!  ASP0315 Jul 19th, 2008, 03:38 AM There are no words Anna. :o :help: 2008 has just been a wave of inconsistency. Can you ever put together two good tournaments let alone two good wins? Can't even beat slumping Marion. Pathetic...:rolleyes: chakky is slump as well. BTW did you watch this match.?? Marion was simple too good and didn't miss much from the baseline and put a lot of pressure on her. please stop being a sore loser. FERLKE Jul 19th, 2008, 03:41 AM God can Chakvetadze be any more boring? she is a nightmare to watch :o Infiniti2001 Jul 19th, 2008, 03:41 AM Marion is not a good mover.. You would think that Anna would move her butt around-- instead she was quite content to slug it out with her at the baseline  TheFifthAvocado Jul 19th, 2008, 03:41 AM Chakky's forehand is so much worse than last year. I think she changed it. Marion played very well though. StarDuvallGrant Jul 19th, 2008, 03:41 AM Cool, congrats Marion. Dexter Jul 19th, 2008, 03:42 AM Czakwetadze out of the tournament is always a good thing, moreso if a player I like beats her.Well done Marion and good luck in the SFs. :yeah: Lulu. Jul 19th, 2008, 03:44 AM Well done Marion. Now please make the Final. :yeah: RND Jul 19th, 2008, 03:47 AM Marion for the title now! :D Without the pressure as the defending Wimbledon runner-up,she seems to play more comfortably now.Hopefully this is the first step for another miracle run. ;) :) Anna.   A tier II quarterfinal isn't so bad. :) Mattographer Jul 19th, 2008, 03:50 AM Allez Marion! :hearts: Win the title! Malva Jul 19th, 2008, 03:57 AM Sometimes I wonder whether I watch the same match as some of the posters. Neither Marion was dominant, nor Anna was making tons of errors (I was watching a live stream, so shots missing tramlines by a small margin were hard to see), even though she tended to make them in some of the least appropriate moments. Secondly, she produced lots of beautiful winners, and often had upper hand in the rallies. She also defended valiantly. What undid her today was her inability to hold the serve, especially in the second set when she may have held just once. In comparison, Marion was more solid, and had clear advantage serving. The match was beautiful to watch with a lot of interesting well executed rallies. Both players were preparing the winners by creating positions for angle shots, and by moving the opponent along the baseline. Often very small elements of the game, or pure luck, were deciding who was winning the point. The 8th and the 9th games of the 2nd Match proved to be decisive. When Marion was already looking as a likely winner, Anna was able to break her on 4:4, and then in a somehow haphazard manner, slipped to 0/40 in her own service game. Once before in the match she was able to win her game from such disadvantage but not this time. A lack of concentration? In any case, it proved to be very costly, and Marion didn't allow the opportunity to slip away, and convincingly held her serve. I have an impression that Anna suffered a few such periods of lack of concentration, as I didn't see in her game obvious weaknesses (I am not speaking about her serve). In combination with solid determination of Bartoli they cost her the match. As I said above, the match was a pleasure to watch. There were a few points of exceptional beauty. I don't understand those who say that Chakvetadze's or Bartoli's game is boring. young_gunner913 Jul 19th, 2008, 03:59 AM Allez Marion!!:bigclap: Ai vs. Marion :hearts: Dont really mind whoever makes it to the finals, both will lose to Serena. Craig. Jul 19th, 2008, 04:02 AM Marion played surprisingly well. Anna was her usual craptastic self. Ai for the final! :bounce: backslapu Jul 19th, 2008, 04:14 AM Simple: Marion has always had the game. Now all she has to do is tone her body up and she'll be back top 10 LICKIDY SPLIT!!! :) GOOD JOB MARION!!!! Chakvetadze is an error machine, she made 38 tonight:help: Infiniti2001 Jul 19th, 2008, 04:43 AM  Did anyone watching the match on Tennis Channel just hear Anna yell at someone to shut up? It's only a matter of time before she starts moving up the rankings again. Chakvetadze was bad besides a couple of games in the second set. Silly errors after getting herself back in the set ruined her. The TTC commentator has such trouble with her name. He even called her Chakvetardze tonight. :o tennisbear7 Jul 19th, 2008, 05:16 AM Chakvetardze. Chakretardze? lol Anyway, stop sucking Anna and get back to your good self. Allez Marion. Can you ever put together two good tournaments let alone two good wins? Can't even beat slumping Marion. Pathetic... Based on her true talent...these are the types of results she should be having. You should be thankful that she had that uber-inflated year in 2007...now its time for her to go back to her righteous place of mediocre. OK? Marion:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce: BRILLIANT. She spoke in an interview about how after Wimbledon she felt all the pressure had been lifted off her shoulders; and how she was looking forward to her favourite part of the year hardcourts. Well, she is really proving true to her word. I love this result. It is so apt. :D Corswandt Jul 19th, 2008, 01:42 PM Chak had been living off getting the right wins at the right time while sucking almost full-time for months now.
