View Full Version : With Alize gone, does Caroline have a better shot at the title?

In my opinion, that would be a yes. I think that, after a impressive dismissal of Su-Wei Hsieh in the 1st Round, and Alize having to retire, that Caro has a much better chance at the title now. I look at her upcoming match with Mariya Koryttseva, and I have some fears, but more belief than anything. I think that if she doesn't let the hype of Alize's retirement get to her, and she plays a solid match from the baseline and at net against Koryttseva, she can squeak by with a win. And seeing as how Nuria Llagostera Vives is struggling already today, if she can make it to a match with Nuria, then she stare a fair chance there as well. My fingers are crossed just for her to get passed Koryttseva, however. Much love for Caro. : )

Hm I dont see the argument that a seed losing helps another player?

I thought that Caro would have won that title right from that start so I'd say no to your question :p

Well in a since, a seed losing does help Caro. Because come time for the semifinals, if she makes it that far, and Alize had not retired, she would be playing Alize, who is a absolute clay court monster. And that would have been a lot of trouble for Caro, and she probably would have lost. At least in mosts' opinion.

I did believe in Caroline winning from the start, but I definitely think that Alize retiring will make her path to the title easier. An Alize-Caro match-up would have been nice, though.

Good luck, girl. :yeah:

I suppose if Caroline makes it to the semi-final then of course she wont see Cornet on the other side of the net which will make her title assault a bit easier. It is more open but potential players such as Korytseva and Sprem could make things difficult.

Now with also Vives out, ithink the winner Caro-Mariya will be in the Semis.

And yes with Cornet out, it will be a more easy road to the Finals.

Alize would have been more of a task for Caro than Agnes. Not that I am underrating Agnes, but Alize is a clay court specialist, and last week in Budapest Agnes lost against Klepac, whom Alize beat in the final.

Caro had a great chance even before Cornet retired. There was bound to be a post first title letdown for Alize anyway. She is good, but not that good...

Szavay is probably still the favorite, although her recent results have been unconvincing to say the least...
