This means whoever beat you loses next round, then that person gets beat, then that person gets beat, and so forth, right?

great thread!! :worship:

For any posters who don't understand this thread, Daniela-Is-Mine's term, "the wooden spoon" is also called "the anti-slam" by some people. I happen to love both terms :spit:

Basically, it is the reverse of winning a slam. For example, Ivanovic won RG.

Vesnina won the "wooden spoon" or "anti-slam". Here's how it works:

Ivanovic def. Safina who def. Kuznetsova who def. Kanepi who def. Kvitova who def. Szavay who def. Lisicki who def. Vesnina. Vesnina has the reverse result of Ivanovic.

The other way of looking at this:

Vesnina lost to Lisicki who lost to Szavay who lost to Kvitova who lost to Kanepi who lost to Kuznetsova who lost to Safina who lost to Ivanovic.

I think its unfair that Sofia could get it. she retired and was beating Sybille. Even though i love both of them, Sybille was playing like crap.

That seems like an unusual amount of winners, but yeah essentially it means you were the worst player in the tournament.

How do you do this for a round-robin tournament??

Doha 2009: Serena > Venus > Jankovic > Safina and Wozniacki (but Wozniacki reached the SF so Safina it is)
Doha 2008: Venus > Zvonareva > Dementieva > Safina and Petrova (but Petrova was an ALT so Safina it is)

Bali 2009: Rezai > Bartoli > Date Krumm > Medina Garrigues (The only one Date beat at RR).

Anyway no prizes for guessing who won yet another wooden spoon :oh:
Brussels 2013: Kanepi > Peng> Oprandi > Zheng > Wozniacki

This is Caro's 5th spoon for a pre-Slam week Premier tournament, having previously won Sydney (2010, 2011), and Eastbourne (2010, 2012). Congrats gurl :cheer:

oh my :rolls: that has to be a record of some sort.

Had Serena won that sequence would have included the likes of Bychkova instead. Couldn't be further from slam winning there.

D: Maybe Azarenka has 20 more slams in her then? And Stosur at least 1 more?

We should take those Wooden Spoon more as an Oracle, as well for betting:

Begu won it in Wimbledon.

And she lost today to Voracova. We should have known better.

Okay, I was first to mention this last night:oh:

If Aga wins, then Bouchard will be wooden spoon at her home tournament:spit:

Furthermore, Aga would storm to 3rd in the Race, ahead of Serena and Na.

The opponent that beat you in the first round loses her next match, then the one who beat her loses her next match, and so on until the end of the tournament
