get over it girls.Ana Ivanovic career record in doubles is 19-22 and not played any match this season except once in FED CUP. Jelena is much better only in mix-doubles... her doubles h2h is 34-53 also speak for herself and this season she played just one tournament.

So it's good decision to not compete in doubles... because in singles both have chances for medal. Djokovic/Zimonjic case is exception because Djokovic already played in past with some success (and Zimonjic is current TOP5) and they have some chance for medal so why not try.

me thinks they should give it a try.. it's one in a lifetime chance..yeah they would propably be out from the first round,so what...but there is also a chance they both pull a wimbledon and regret this decision forever after..

where's the no.8 and 10 players?

No.8 is Chakvetadze, looks like Russia prefers Safina to play now instead of her. A while ago I read that the Russian team will be Sharapova, Kuznetsova, Dementieva and Chakvetadze. No. 10 Bartoli has never played in Fed Cup as far as I know, so she's not allowed to play.

thats what you want to think but it aint the truth, chaky was given her deserved spot but has declined to play as she is unhappy about her form and mental state so is missing it, safina is the next ranked russian so has got the place left by anna. it was anna's choice not to play not them picking safina.
i think its a wise choice by anna as she has a lot of points to defend this hardcourt season and she realy needs to concentrate on getting her year back on track not the olympics.

good to see mary pierce. i would have preffered mauresmo but the French tennis association made the right choice choosing pierce.

looking at the doubles- i can already see the 3 countries with possible medals.
USA- Williams and Davenport/Huber
Australia- Stubbs-Stosur
China- They always had good doubles team and its their home court.

Slovak Republic has a good team!!! With Hantuchova and Cibulkova in Singles and Hantuchova/Husarova in Doubles!!! Very nice team!!! We should take care for Miss Daniela Hantuchova is one of the favourites to take a medal as she said on tennis Magazine Olympics are her first goal of the year. I believe that she can make at least in Semi-Finals... Go Danka!

Lindsay playing singles and doubles for the first time. Now I just hope she stays fit to get to the Olympics and all these injuries are now behind her. I would hate to see a repeat of what happened in Sydney. :) I like the look of a Davenport / Huber doubles team they should do well :)

Petra is unranked player in doubles and in singles competition she is way better shot than Zakopalova - but they put "Cookie" in singles instead Kvitova and put Kvitova in doubles instead Peschke (or Klara). I dont see any logic there.

Ana and Jelena aren't very good at doubles, they wouldn't stand a chance against the top doubles teams, it makes more sense now that they're focusing in singles, where they have a very strong chance to medal.

HOw xcan Eleni play? i don;t think she has played Fed CUp?

The rules do not say you have to play fed cup, they say you have to be at the disposal ofyour counrty's fed cup team. If the fed cup team chooses not to select you you remain eligible... That was the trick for Justine if she was to play this year's olympics even theough she hadn't played fed cup in 2007 or 2008.

Thanks. It's sad really.I wonder what will happen for the doubles now.Golovin will maybe withdrew too (I don't think she was going to be competitive anyway, and with Amelie injured and not prepared as she wanted to be, there was no really point for this team to compete).
Amelie should have give a try in singles though(in case Mary will not participate)but she wants to focus on USO and be really prepared for it (not like in FO and Wimbledon).I can't blame her and it's probably the best for her at the end.

i can't not underSTand the ITF

On the one hand there a dozens f problems by getting the accepted players to the olympic tornament cuz of the narrow-minded NOC and on the other hand they waste places to any player they want

C'mon

probem nr.1. protected ranking - it's not fair to kick qualified players out from the list, because some semi-retired,semi-injured players think: "oh it could be a cute thing to end up MY career with an olympic start" without playing one single match or fed cup tie in the olympic season - PIERCE

nr.2 wildcard: why do llagostera-vives from SPAIN need a wildcard - has she done something special in the past or what ? I thought for the ITF it would be decisive e.g. whether a country is still represented in the tournament (and spain already is), the youth have advantages because of the future stuff (how old is she ...)

nr.3 doubles: why does czech republic is deserved to send two doubles in the race without nominating peSchke ? i thouht only the top 10 teams can send another double

Eleni - Will she be healed and ready to play?
Petra Kvitova - Will she for sure be at Olympics?
