I have never noticed this index before. I did not know that some of the people on the list hit that hard.

f) 2nd Serve Return; and g) Smash.
*Only calculates players appearing on center court.

Linday can hold her baby in other hand and she'd still be the hardest hitting woman!

On the other hand Marta's power means nothing, when she usually hits it wide or long...

This stat is completely contaminated by the opponent one plays. If Venus Williams serves to me and i return it to her, its going to come off my racket at a faster speed than if i was returning an Hingis serve with the exact same stroke. My power index would be higher in the Venus match. Its the same reason a hard throwing pitcher in baseball is more susceptible to giving up the longball.

Which is why no one cares about it.

I forget the stat last year but I think it had Amelie as # 1 and Mattek at # 2. Something ridiculous.
