GREAT MATCH ACTUALLY Saved 3 Match points in the 2nd Leveled AT 4-4 BUT Mistakes crept in Nadias Game where she miss her chances on the net 3 times for 5-4
Then at 4th match point Petrova got very lucky, the ball just(When i say just I AM MEAN JUST!!!) TIP OVER THE NET DEUCE THEN AGA HIT A GREAT SHOT 5TH MATCH POINT,THEN SEAL IT WITH A GREAT SHOTS!!! GREAT MATCH BUT NADIA REALLY STAY IN TILL 4-4 AS THE INJURIES +TIREDNESS IS TOO MUCH

CONGRATS AGAZ!!! NOW DO GOOD IN WIMBLEDON
NADIAS CNAT KEEP UP ANYMORE MAYBE 1 OR 2 YEARS SHE'LL RETIRED OR
SHE SERVES HARD.

That was an unbelievable fight at the end, Agnieszka seemed totally tired or unwell at the beginning of the third set, but picked herself up and won it. Very very happy for Agnieszka, but commiserations to Nadia who seemed to want it very much, just got quite nervous/unfocused in her last service game. Agnieszka IS a great champion, if she can take this, she can take anything. Fantastic. Congratulations.

I was very down on Nadia early in the match. She served at *45 40-15 and was broken, for the 3rd time in set 1.
Then she was up 42 in set 2 and couldn't serve it out.
But from down 14 in the tb, I thought Nadia fought her heart out, then tired at the end

what an immense match this was

aga :yeah: that was awesome to hung in the 3rd after letting those 3 mps in the tiebreak slip away, it takes a great player to get himself back on track! :)

this match showed how much aga's game improved since ao, there aga had no weapons to counter petrova hard hitting for a set and a half, than nadia just brainfarted a bit to lose the match. here, aga had those deep, powerful shots to stay in the rallies with nadia and win a good proportion of those. and she learned to play beautiful cc passing shots off both fh and bh

i hope she if allright physically, she seemed to be suffering in the latter stages of the match :scared:
if she is 100% fit, i feel a deep run @ wimby :D

4-0 in finals

Agree with every word here.

I've not tended to be a fan of Nadia but she gave a really good account of herself, in terms of her tennis skills, her fighting abilities and in the award ceremonies afterwards, her overall personality. She gave a spirited display and seemed to be enjoying her tennis for the most part.

As for Aga, well, she is almost there, almost top 10. Almost certainly she will be there after Wimbledon. I have been saying for ages she would be top 10 this year and Aga has actually done it faster than I even expected. Next step will be top 5 and I think she has an excellent chance to be there by the end of 2009. I hope Aga isn't too tired to follow up with a great Wimbledon.

Really enjoyable match from both players and some very clever stuff from Aga. :yeah:

Yes Dexter, Venus opens play on tuesday.

Good match, BUT Nadia should have taken it. It was so good to see her fighting and being positive on the court, but then she went all Paul Henri Mathieu... fell in love with herself, and you could see she was losing concentration at times. Gesturing, dramatics - giving JJ a run for her money.

I hope she builds on this, and hope this wasn't an it all match; that is that I hope this loss doesn't depress her into poor form. She could have a good run a wimbledon in that form!

Congrats to Aga though, 3rd title :woohoo:. Lose to Serena though :p

goldenlox
Jun 21st, 2008, 02:24 PM
She congratulated Aga, and said how difficult it was for her, playing at night, with rain delays, having to finish 2 matches in one day.
She thanked her new coach, said every moment with him is precious and she's come a long way with him. Said she loves this tournament and hopes to come back next year and do better

Nadia had plenty of chances. 3 times broken in set 1, couldn't serve out set 2 up a break, *43.
Then Nadia just wore down at the end and played an awful game at *44 in the 3rd.
It was just giving points away that a weekend hacker could win. She was tired, but she shouldn't have been in that situation.
And Nadia should have broken ar 21* in the 3rd. Weak approach shot at bp after Aga df'ed

Incredible match! I really enjoyed watching it, but it would have been SO much better for me if Nadia had pulled out the win, especially after saving 3 match points in the second set tiebreak.

After she snagged the second, I was almost completely sure she was going to win. That awful game at 4-4 was so out of the blue! If it hadn't been for that, it could have been yet another Eastbourne 3rd set tiebreak final!

Yet again, the Eastbourne final doesn't fail to disappoint.

Well, in truth Aga didn't do that great against Nadia's serve after Nadia got grooved in the 2nd set. The only times Aga broke it had a lot to do with Nadia errors. The good thing is that Aga was also very solid and accurate on her own serve and backed it up well so she didn't need to break a lot.

She was so calm and composed even after she lost the second set. I really apluad her. :hatoff:
Aga made some great returns today and making petrova earn each and every point.
but however there are some things she needs to learn like hitting drops shot and make use of bh slice effectively.

In the meantime petrova had some great week as well. However her Bh is terrible. :o she was batling with her serve in the second set and offcourse she did hit some great shots. Overall great week for her and she really needs to something aout her backhand.

well done aga, held it together.
nadia nice fight and kept your nerve in the breaker only to lose it right at the end of the 3rd set, the missed forehand and smash at *4-4 in the 3rd were the turning point in the match.

The best part for Nadia was that at the end of a long week she could play a long 3 set match.
Her energy level is back to where it needs to be.
Nadia said after the match that she has to be more focused on big points.
She knows what we all saw. That she blew a lot of good chances in all 3 sets.
But she's back to enjoying tennis and trying hard. So she'll be back in the top 10.

great drop shots is what radwanska is known for (http://youtube.com/watch?v=tQaDEvaNJVg). it was just this once she had problems with them :)

wow that was sick. :p

I did know she can make good drops. not on clutch occasions though. ;) gotta use them efectively along with the bh slice i meant.

Shame Aga's Dropshot-Lob-Dropshot-Lob combination against Tammy Tanasugarn from Wimbledon 2006 isn't on Youtube anymore. I was there for that and thinking about that point always brings a smile to my face. :)

What an exciting match. The second set tiebreaker was great.

Congrats Aga on coming through, even when you didn't take one of the three matchpoint chances in the second set.

I always miss the classics. :o I hate having to sleep sometimes.

Wanted Petrova to win, but this was a win/win final for me.

What a great match! I'm just back from Eastbourne and must admit for the semis I started off wanting Marion to win, but Aga really won me over! I was really impressed with her game and love the way she gets down low to play her shots on grass. Today I really wanted her to win against Nadia; that 2nd set tie-breaker was a nail biter and I was worried for her after she lost it and missed the match points. So impressive how she didn't let it discourage her for the 3rd set and I was so happy for her when she won! :D

Well done Aga!! :clap2:

One of the most enjoyable matches i have seen all year.

Impressed by Petrova's willingness to come in to the net.

Great day for both players. Congrats to Aga for winning her first significant title. Is it me or is Eastbourne one of the toughest of the Tier 2 events to win? Great matches every year.

Probably will be a even tougher center court next year when the men have it at.

Agnieszka said on a number of occasions that grass was her favorite surface. And she backed that claim with her Wimbledon's Junior Championship and reaching the 4-th Round in her first ever appearance in the Main Draw, when she was just 17.

By the way, she is the only player who won a title on every surface this year. She is versatile, really.
