View Full Version : Who will survive Dementieva's quarter?

Jun 20th, 2008, 05:40 PM
As I see it, Dementieva, Davenport, and Safina are the main three threats to advance to the quarterfinal in that section. And although Davenport is the best grass-courter of the three, and Safina owns Dementieva, I think anything can happen here. And despite both being in poor form, Safarova and Peer are very good players as well.

It is perhaps the toughest quarter (this or Jankovic's), so I'm curious what you guys think. I'll keep this alive up to the completion of who does make it to the quarterfinal.

I don't give Dementieva much of a shot. Davenport would of course have owned these girls just a few years ago, but...I'm feeling a Safina loss to Sharapova in the quarters.

im hoping lindsay, for sentimental reasons!

Jun 20th, 2008, 05:58 PM
The winner of the Lindsay-Lena match. Dinara's game doesn't suit grass very well and I think the that Lindsay or Lena should win against her in the 4th round.

Sorry Ludwig, you are not going to like my answer but I think you know who is just on fire at the moment and right now she is very much the one to beat.

Dinara hasn't lost a set at the Ordina Open, and is really one match, that RG final where she said she was tired, from dominating the tour since they left the US

Jankovic/Venus quarter is the thoughest to begin with.

I see Safina or maybe Lindz. But unfortunately for her, Lena has none chance.

Jun 20th, 2008, 06:46 PM
Quarter? Hell, Lena's taking down TOB in the semis.

Not that I tend to get separated from reality when Lena is involved.

Jun 20th, 2008, 06:47 PM
Dinara Safina most likely, it won't matter that she doesn't like grass if she keeps her game up.

Jun 20th, 2008, 06:48 PM
i think linds, just because i think she will look at this draw and think ok could have been loads worse, i can do this. where as lena d will be thinking urghhhh why me and safina will be thinking not easy.

If Linds is not too injured she could!

If she was mildly-fit i think she has a chance at Semis.

What's to dislike? I am very aware who the three players are and what they each are capable of. I am a fan of them all, particularly the two bound for the third round. I defend Elena, but in genuine questions like the one posed in the initial post, I can accept everyone's opinions. I hardly ever get involved in the conversations in my threads anyway.

I think they all have great shots to make the quarterfinal, personally. I think Davenport should make it through due to her ability on the surface, but I'll have to see how she's playing in the first round or two. If she plays well and beats Dementieva convincingly, I look forward to her QF against Sharapova.

Safina should really never beat Lindsay, unless it's clay. But you never know where any of these three girls will be at any given time...

Jun 20th, 2008, 10:00 PM
It won't be Dementieva.
Davenport should beat Safina on grass.
Peer is horrible. Peer is even worse on grass.
Safarova, who knows, if she gets a ball in the court.

Jun 20th, 2008, 10:08 PM
Safina no doubt. She's the 2008 version of Ana 2007.

Jun 20th, 2008, 10:21 PM
Hopefully Davenport since it's grass.
But Safina is playing very well these last two months.

Jun 20th, 2008, 10:23 PM
Safina no doubt. She's the 2008 version of Ana 2007.

So she'll get to the semis at Wimbledon? :scared: MARIA, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Lindsay will make it without dropping a set if she's fit.

Jun 20th, 2008, 10:32 PM
probably Safina but I want Lindsay to do so , and even better ... ;)

it pains me to say it, but i think safina

Jun 21st, 2008, 02:56 AM
I actually think Safina now. :p

Definitely Safina.

Jun 21st, 2008, 11:11 AM
Lindsay of course

Jun 21st, 2008, 11:35 AM
Lindsay,duh

Please not Safina

Lindsay should get through this section of the draw on one leg. The only thing that might send her home early is her knee. Lindsay couldn't have been given a better draw. Dementieva will be lucky if she still standing by the time she has play Lindsay and the other players in this section grass is their weakest surface where it's one of Lindsay's strongest.

Jun 21st, 2008, 12:23 PM
Lindsay beat Dinara 6-1 6-2 at Wimbledon last time she was here, and Dinara just lost to Tammy. tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Chan beat her.

The person that goes through will be the winner of Lindsay-Lena, and I'm confident it will be Linds.

Jun 24th, 2008, 09:13 PM
Lindsay, Shahar and Dinara all won their first round matches today. Lucie lost. Elena is up 63 33 against Camerin, will probably lose tomorrow.

Dementieva (if she beats Camerin)/Bacsinszky, Dulko/Davenport, Peer/Loit, Hsieh/Safina is the 2R lineup in this section. Anyone change their minds or feel further strengthened by what they saw today?

As much as I'd like Lindsay to go far, even though this side of the draw would seem to favor her, it's hard to see her getting through since she's not had that much match play, and no warm up on grass. I hope that I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised not to see Lindsay around for the QF.

I'd like to see Safina make some noise. Don't know if she can do it, but her confidence should be on high after the clay season.

Jankovic has the toughest draw with Venus possibly ahead.

Jun 24th, 2008, 09:25 PM
After today I can see Elena taking out Davenport.

Jun 24th, 2008, 09:25 PM
Clearly Loit has got it in the bag!

Jun 28th, 2008, 03:07 PM
Dementieva makes it to the fourth round. Peer is up 75 *41 over Safina. No jinx, though.

Who survives? Dementieva, Peer, or Safina?

BTW, no one voted for Shahar at all.

Jun 28th, 2008, 04:13 PM
omg no not another Elena-Safina!!

Jun 28th, 2008, 04:16 PM
safina crawled her way back into the match again... Somehow people just can't seem to finish that girl off :o, lets just hope elena doesn't get routined again bleh.

Jun 28th, 2008, 04:19 PM
Its amazing the luck of Safina . Out of this world

Jun 28th, 2008, 04:21 PM
saved MP versus Maria and Elena.
And now against Peer. Amazing. :O :(

Jun 28th, 2008, 04:22 PM
Elena will be it in this quarter :yeah:
