well then she will deserve to be outside the top 10 (shes #14 in the race so even in a bad year shes still ranked very high), but she has earned the points so is ranked where she deserves to be #8.

 at all the usual Anna hating... the notion that she somehow doesn't deserve to be top 20 is hilarious, given that she's still #14 in the race even while displaying the incredibly bad form she's shown all year. It's absolutely fair cop to say that she's not playing like a Top 10 player this year, but to suggest she belongs outside the top 20 is, for want of diplomacy, utter bollocks.

Anyway, good win for Alona... hopefully Anna can get her mind and emotions back on court before too long.

really she is only #14 for her good showings in 2 tournaments this year, Rome and Paris, which together make up more than half her points for this season:o

that's life, she needs to be able to bounce back, but she obviously can't.

A) You're right about Paris and Rome, but it makes no difference whatsoever to the rankings. It's like me saying without the tournaments she lost first round this year her year would look better. She's #14 whatever.

B) Rather ridiculous to bring up Yetunde's death, which has been cited again and again as having had a big negative impact on both V and S. Sure they bounced mostly back in time, but I think there is no doubt that it affected them both negatively and as a result they achieved less than they otherwise would. Trauma, while it may just be "life" to you, does impact people negatively... and it is equally crass and classless to slate Anna for slumping this year, just as it would be for people to slate S&V for not having dealt with their half-sister's death without blinking an eye.

dosen't the highlighted bit say it all, if such great champions need time to get over certain issues why wouldn't chaky, she is at rock bottom confidence wise and has admitted as much.

their sister dying was around the end of the season and so was the trial during the off season.
Chakvetadze made the stupid mistake, she felt that she was ready to come back and play, but wasn't, why not take a break, maybe because it's that she sucks now and was overrated last year:)

how can you say that, she beat venus when venus was supposed to be playing the tennis of her life! also like venus hasn't come back from injuries and general issues to early sometimes, its just the way life is.

chaky is human and humans are fallible.

Oh right... so it's Anna's fault that she tried to keep going, tried to move on with things - you'd make a really dire counsellor. Perhaps Anna should have dealt with it by taking time off, but clearly she felt it was best to attempt to keep going and get her confidence back that way. Haven't you ever made a decision which turned out to be harmful to you in the long term? To judge someone so harshly for trying to cope is pretty low.

And please explain the concept of someone being overrated in the sense you're describing... she didn't win so many matches by being voted in by a panel, she won them by being better on court, it has nothing to do with how anyone else rated her.

Ok and what it has to do with her Tennis? I would have understood if she played badly even 3 mouths after the robbery but it was in november, almost 7 months ago!:help:
I mean, she's not injured anymore. It's just an excuse, she just doesn't have the shoulder to handle all the pressure put on her since her good season last year. Get real

Anna wasn't exactly playing very well before the robbery (from U.S. Open to the end of the year - she made the YEC SF though without doing much because that group was a joke. She won only three matches before then in the indoor season), so I don't see how the robbery is an excuse. Maybe it knocked her down a bit more but she was clearly crap since the USO SF.

It has a huge amount to do with her tennis - tennis is so heavily linked to confidence that it is nigh on essential for success. I'm pretty sure most people who are tied up and robbed in their own homes lose quite a bit of whatever confidence they had. I'm amazed that you can decide that 3 months is the defined coping period, and anything outwith that is somehow wrong or impossible. People deal differently, and take different periods of time to come to terms with things. I think it bizarre that you tell me to "get real" when you are speaking from a position of such rigid judgementalism. The rest of the world does not operate and deal with things within the period of time that you deem to be correct.

Fair point, Anna lost it pretty badly after the horrors of her SF with Sveta, but she was recovering somewhat by Madrid. Things were definitely in her favour there, the matches were easier than they should have been with Serena/Jelena being off form/fitness, but she was playing *way* better than the weird performances directly after the USO. I think, had it not been for that robbery, she would have been over her crap form sooner than we're still seeing now in June. Anna is a notable confidence performer... she lives on the edge of her control/emotions on a court and with her; confidence makes all the difference between her playing great, neat angles/placement shots and spraying the ball in a painful mess.

Some of you are just tennis ignorant

Anna C is NOT going to fall badly as you say
She will certainly be nr12 in the Race to the YEC next week and has only a 3rd round to defend at Wimbledon

She will finish the year in the top 15 and come back to where she belongs next year!!

Alona:hearts: So when is Chaky finally leaving the top 10?

After USO, if she is. Winning Paris and making the semifinals in Rome have proven vital for Anna.

Still, if she does poorly after Wimbledon...eh...thankfully for Anna, aside from Vera and perhaps Aga, no one is making any serious bids ranked below her. even by winning one match a tournament (which is what she's averaging), she's keeping her rank sustained. For now.

She's had mostly top 50 player results this year, but she's had two good results. The fact she's so high in the race is kind of embarrassing, and it just exemplifies how poorly everyone is playing this year aside from a few players.

It's a good win for Alona. Congrats to her.
