Ekaterina Makarova reaches 1st WTA QF and breaks into TOP 50

By virtue of defeating Zvonareva, Makarova will break into the TOP 50 in the next rankings. Also, she reaches her first-ever tour quarterfinal.

She has now three TOP 20 wins, all in 2008:

#19 A. Szavay - Australian Open
#17 N. Vaidisova - Rome
#13 V. Zvonareva - Eastbourne

Last year, at this point, she was ranked #180. So quite a big jump for her in 52 weeks!
